The Sony Xperia Z1 flagship is getting a smaller version, however, only in Japan, for the moment. The new Sony Xperia Z1F has been reportedly announced at a DoCoMo event and is apparently packing all the internals of the Z1 in a smaller form factor. We're looking at a 4.3-inch 720p screen, underneath which you'll find powerhouse internals: a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 20.1MP camera -- same as the one on the Z1 -- NFC, wireless charging, as well as a 2,300mAh battery. A little over a month ago, right before IFA, we checked out an image purporting to depict Sony's Honami Mini. We've since seen Honami itself go official as the Xperia Z1, but what of this pint-sized version? Now it's making a reappearance in some leaked carrier docs, which seem to reveal its launch name as the Xperia Z1 f. The best part is that the Z1's great camera appears to be returning, apparently unchanged. Where we do see sacrifices made with the Z1 f, they largely seem to be size-related, and the Z1 f looks to be just as powerful as the full-sized Z1; expect SoC and RAM to stay ...

That's right, it's about that time for IFA 2013 to happen, and you can bet we'll be covering every inch of the show floor in Berlin. This has historically been the event for phablets, and a couple of other surprises. Whether it's LG, HTC, Sony or Samsung, there is a lot to expect from this event in both old and new categories.
