Ever since Sony Ericsson officially stated that all of its 2011 Xperia smartphones will be updated to the latest Android Ice Cream Sandwich, there were speculations regarding the actual roll-out date. If earlier the company told us the steps necessary to bring the new platform to the phones, now we have official roll-out dates.
End of March – beginning of May 2012 is the timeframe to watch for if you have a phone which is in the 2011 Xperia line-up. The first ones to get ICS in March/April will be the Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray. Then, in April/May, the [...]
Sony Ericsson made its customers very happy once the company announced that it will bring all of its handsets in the 2011 Xperia-line to the Android Ice Cream Sandwich party. There were rumors of a January release and then those implying March but the thing is the update process is not that easy we’d like it to be.
In order to get the latest version of Android on the handsets out in user hands, Sony Ericsson has to go through a couple of steps necessary. They were kind enough to outline the process which you might find long but the posting says that the “summary of [...]
Just yesterday we’ve heard from Sony Ericsson Italy that the Xperia 2011 line-up will get its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich treat in March 2012 and now we have another version of the story. There are more possibilities here: Sony could roll out the updates at different times in different regions; we might be caught in a marketing war or some people give out information just for the sake of it.
Regardless, here’s the deal: a Sony Ericsson employee said that, contrary to the Italian branch information, the official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the 2011 [...]
Sony Ericsson was recently kind enough to announce that its entire Xperia line from this year will be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich. What we didn’t know was when exactly the manufacturer was planning on doing that.
From Sony Ericsson Italy we find out that not only the company is the only manufacturer to update its entire 2011 line-up but that the refresh should be out in the first quarter of the next year. Maurizio de Palma, the Marketing Manager of Sony Ericsson Italy, said that March should be the month to circle in your calendar. Of course, this is a rough estimate as [...]
There were talks about the Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for Sony Ericsson devices but then the manufacturer backtracked the same day the initial rumors popped up.
According to recent information, it has been now confirmed that the entire Sony Ericsson Xperia line-up for 2011 will indeed get its Ice Cream Sandwich treat. “We are working on merging our current Xperia experience with the new features in Android 4.0”, says the manufacturer. The models targeted are the Xperia arc and arc S, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo and neo V, Xperia mini and mini pro, [...]
Sony Ericsson may be putting the Xperia X10 out to pasture when it comes to providing software updates, but luckily there are plenty of other Xperia models that continue to live on. The company has been talking about its plans for bringing Android 2.3.4 to the lineup for months, and we first started to hear about models beginning to receive the software back in September. Sony Ericsson has now announced that it’s moving past a limited, regional distribution, and is beginning a global push to bring that latest software to the Xperia Arc, Play, Neo, Mini, Mini Pro, Pro, Ray, [...]
CyanogenMod founder Steve Kondik, now working for Samsung, has shared one of Diogo Ferreira’s posts on Google+ related to CyanogenMod and Sony Ericsson. Great news for Xperia phone owners: they’ll get some CyanogenMod love for their devices.
No less than ten Sony Ericsson Android phone will be supported by the next release of CyanogenMod. These are the Xperia Arc, Xperia Neo, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Play, Xperia Ray, Xperia X10, Xperia X8, Xperia X10 Mini, and Xperia X10 Mini Pro. According to the same post, this will be possible thanks to a joint effort [...]
Sony Ericsson announced the Xperia Pro this February and we met it at MWC. It was supposed to be already available but it got initially delayed to July and then to Q4. It now appears that it will be hitting the British market next week.
According to our friends over at Clove, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro is expected on October 6. For roughly $500 you can get the phone unlocked, packing a 3.7-inch FWVGA screen with 480 x 854 resolution, 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 320MB of RAM, eight-megapixel camera on the back and two-megapixel webcam on the front. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and [...]
Sony Ericsson has been talking big about bringing Android 2.3.4 to its lineup of 2011 Xperia smartphones for a while now. We had been expecting those updates to start showing up in October, but it looks like they’re already on their way to users now.
Earlier today we talked about the update arriving for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo. We’re now hearing confirmation that the firmware is also out for the Xperia Play and Xperia Arc; there’s been no word yet on the Pro.
As promised, the update is full of goodies, including Swype’s virtual keyboard. It [...]
Earlier today we heard that Sony Ericsson had made a decision that would make users of its Android phones very happy, that it had committed to releasing Android Ice Cream Sandwich updates across its full lineup of this year’s models. That kind of future support is a question that’s on the minds of plenty of Android users, but none of us expected such a definitive promise this early on. Sadly, it turns out there’s probably a good reason we were surprised, since Sony Ericsson has now backtracked from that claim.
The company clarified its commitment to future [...]
The next version of Android, codenamed Ice Cream Sandwich, is going to be released sometime October/November, according to Google’s own Eric Schmidt. Then it will be up to OEMs to issue updates for their existing phones (taking longer for some while the others acting faster).
According to a Sony Ericsson representative, all of the manufacturer’s 2011 Xperia phones in this year’s line-up will be updated to Android Ice Cream Sandwich. That’s a lot of phones: Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo, Xperia Pro, Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V, and Xperia Ray. There [...]
It’s been a rough couple months for Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Pro, where an anticipated summer release fell through and the smartphone had to be pushed back until Q4. At least, that’s to be the case in the UK; while we don’t expect Sony Ericsson to be able to release the phone in other markets any earlier, the company has at least managed to get one Xperia Pro ready for testing, with the handset showing up in FCC certification paperwork this morning.
Luckily for us, this is one of those rare collection of FCC smartphone documents that includes plenty of [...]
When we heard about the hitherto most recent round of delays for Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Pro, which came to our attention near the beginning of June, we were hopeful that they might signal the last rescheduling that the smartphone would need to undergo. First we were looking at an early June launch, then sometime in July, and eventually a late July release. Understandably, we wanted that to be the end of it. Perhaps we should have interpreted that slowly-creeping-back date as a more troublesome sign than we did, because now Sony Ericsson has confirmed that the Xperia Pro is on ice [...]
Sony Ericsson has a rather successful Android phone line-up with the MWC-launched Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo and Xperia Pro. According to sources, the manufacturer is already testing a platform update for the above mentioned devices.
The update would contain Google’s newest Android mobile platform, Gingerbread version 2.3.4. In addition to the fresh OS files Sony Ericsson would also include a couple of new functionalities along with the Sony audio filter technology xLOUD. SEMC Blog’s source also claims that, while this update will be available for the [...]
Pre-orders for Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Pro in the UK went live at the beginning of the month. Initially, it looked like the smartphone might actually show up this month, but estimations were quickly revised for July, instead. Now there’s news of additional delays, with the Xperia Pro not expected to arrive until the very end of July.
Sony Ericsson has updated its UK-based web store, which now shows the Xperia Pro as “Available late JULY”. Hopefully that will be the last of the revisions to the phone’s launch date, but with the way it’s been [...]
One of the Sony Ericsson smartphones on display at this year’s Mobile World Congress, besides the Xperia Arc, Xperia Neo and Xperia Play, was the Xperia Pro, basically a Neo with a slide-out keyboard.
The smartphone is available for pre-order in the U.K. straight from the manufacturer. It goes for £349.99 (around $574) SIM free and you get a 3.7-inch 854×480 resolution display as the Neo, 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, eight-megapixel camera on the back with a two-megapixel front facer. It’s also running Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread mobile platform. It should be [...]
Sony Ericsson’s announcement that it would start offering a service to unlock the bootloaders on certain Xperia models came as great news. While there are a lot of restrictions for what devices qualify, it’s a huge step towards opening up the company’s hardware for Android enthusiasts. One thing that wasn’t clear at the time would be how the unlocked bootloader would affect normal software updates. Sony Ericsson has since confirmed that once you unlock your bootloader, you’ll no longer be able to update through its SEUS tool.
Earlier, the company [...]
Sony Ericsson has started to roll out the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update to the Xperia Arc in Europe yesterday — at least according to reports coming in from Italy and the U.K. — and it looks like they will have to wait at least four months for the next platform refresh.
Sony Ericsson Italy allegedly handed out information according to which the Xperia line-up will get its Android 2.3.4 update in October. The new version of the platform will bring features like video chat in Google Talk, an updated Voice Search, the latest version of Google Books and more. [...]
Late last month Sony Ericsson made an announcement that it would be opening up it’s bootloaders on the current lineup of Xperia smartphones. The day has arrived, and the bootloader unlocking site is now live.
Bootloader unlocking is provided for Sony Ericsson Android smartphones from 2011 onwards, while previously released models are not (yet?) supported. The current compatibility list requires a SIM-unlocked smartphone and includes the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY, Xperia Arc, Xperia Pro, and Xperia Neo. The unlock comes with a bevy of warnings that are somewhat vague such [...]
Sony Ericsson has just made a smart move which will make many happy and even draw some more customers to its smartphone brand as the company announced today that it will be opening up the bootloader on its current, 2011 Xperia smartphone line-up.
This is to facilitate advanced users to “unlock the bootloader in a secure and legal way” and the feature will come to certain models starting this spring. The new smartphones for this year, the Xperia Arc, Xperia Neo, Xperia Play and Xperia Pro will have to fulfill certain requirements in order for the bootloader to be [...]
Sony Ericsson has made an exceptional come-back with some fantastic devices already announced this year: the Xperia Arc at CES and the Xperia Play, Xperia Neo and Xperia Pro at MWC. The company doesn’t seem to stop here as it allegedly plans on dominating the US market this year.
This domination would be achieved with the aid of not only these four, but an additional five, for a total of nine Sony Ericsson Android Smartphones, all this year. The information comes from an anonymous person “quite familiar with the inner workings of Sony Ericsson” who spoke to [...]
At this year’s Mobile World Congress, Sony Ericsson revealed a total number of three devices, namely the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Xperia Neo and Xperia Pro. The Xperia Arc has been unveiled earlier with the occasion of January’s Consumer Electronics Show.
Our friends over at Clove.co.uk published the release dates for all the new, 2011, Xperia smartphones: the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play will go for £504 (around $820) and is said to arrive on April 1 just like the Xperia Arc going for £420.00 (around $684) and the Xperia Neo. You’ll have to wait a tad more for [...]
Sony Ericsson plans to release at least four phones this year besides the four already announced, including some in the US first, according to CEO Bert Nordberg. It wasn’t clear if the joint venture chief was referring to all smartphones or a mix of smart and “dumb” devices, although the revelation seemed to come during a conversation with Business Week in which Android was the primary focus. Nordberg stated that he hoped to eventually capture a full quarter of the Android market — up from the current 14%, reportedly — although a time frame for that goal [...]
With nearly a dozen new phones announced at Mobile World Congress, you might be curious as to when the new devices will land, and perhaps more importantly, how much they’re going to cost. Most of the devices will hit Europe first, where citizens are used to paying higher non-subsidized prices for new smarpthones, so keep that in mind when you peruse the prices below:
Xperia Play: 649 EUR ($882 USD)Xperia Arc: 599 EUR ($814 USD)Xperia Neo: 479 EUR ($651 USD)Wildfire S: (299 EUR ($406)Desire S: 499 EUR ($678 USD)Incredible S: 519 EUR ($705 [...]
