Last week, Motorola announced its upcoming flagship Android, the Moto X. We'd been following rumors of an "X phone" for months, so it was fantastic to finally get some official comments out of the company. Problem was, we didn't really get anything juicy when it comes to phone hardware, software, or launch details, and the only thing Motorola seemed interested in talking about was how the Moto X would be made in the United States. Right away, that started setting off all sorts of alarm bells in my head. Where have I heard a story like this before? One that very much did not have a happy ...

The Motorola Moto X, or the "X Phone", as rumors were referring to it, is coming this summer. First, Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside brought the news at the D11 conference. Shortly after, the company has published a teaser, in the form of a press release. The phone's official name is Moto X. Motorola is specifically calling out the fact that "every Moto X sold in the USA will be assembled in Fort Worth, Texas, making it the first smartphone ever assembled domestically." That, together with the "available this summer", are about the only details contained in the press release. Still, it ...

Earlier this month, we finally started to see all the rumors surrounding Motorola's X phone come together to take physical form, upon the discovery of imagery of an "XFON" apparently getting ready for AT&T. Then we saw what appeared to be the same handset hit the FCC as Motorola model XT1058, again showing support for AT&T's network. Since then, there have been signs that the XFON might also be in the works for other carriers, like a CDMA version arriving as model XT1060. Today, we've got yet another XFON contender to look at, with a Motorola model XT1056 for Sprint making its own ...

For the past few months, Motorola's X phone has been the thing of rumors and speculation, but right at the start of May we finally started tying some physical evidence to the talk, upon the discovery of some photos that just might reveal the X phone in the flesh. Today we get what could be a new look at the hardware thanks to the FCC, as well as get to look at some possible X phone benchmarks. The FCC just published the paperwork for Motorola's model XT1058. That line rendering of it up above sure does tend to match the imagery we've seen of the X phone, from the camera and flash ...

A little earlier today, a rumor about the Motorola X phone started popping up on various smartphone sites. We love a good rumor so we looked in to where this one was coming from, and once we heard the details of it, couldn't help but be overwhelmed by a sense of déjà vu; isn't this old news? The rumor in question comes from a Chinese analyst who claims that Google has lost interest in the X phone and subsequently returned the model to Motorola, in the hopes that more development time can improve its prospects. That sounds almost identical to something we heard several weeks back. In ...

Sometimes, I worry we're getting too cynical when it comes to smartphones. Just look at the Samsung Galaxy S 4, a powerful, popular, feature-packed Android that's sure to set sales records. Despite all the glitz, we ultimately found the heavily-hyped handset to be just a little lacking. Maybe more than any particular area where it came up short, the whole thing just seemed somewhat uninspired. Right now, I'm finding those same sort of feelings beginning to influence my opinion of the so-called Motorola X phone – a smartphone that's yet to even be officially confirmed, let alone launch. ...

Motorola's X phone has been the subject of Android rumors for months, but despite all that talk, we haven't had the opportunity to really see what the handset will look like. There has been the odd render or two, but nothing really compelling to convince us "yes, this is the X phone we're looking at." Today, though, a series of new images arrives that could very well be our first chance to check out the X phone in the flesh. Up top you'll see a nice little array of shots of an unknown Motorola handset in testing for AT&T. On their own, they don't tell us too much, and that case ...

There's a lot of news going around today about anticipated phones showing up in Android benchmark databases. A lot of it is seriously suspicious – models purporting to be the "Google Nexus 4 LTE" seem to be trying just a bit too hard to get us to notice them, and while there's an outside chance they could be legit, the smart money is on someone faking the results. Still, amidst all that mess there is one new model that actually has our attention, identified only as the XT1055. So, what could this guy be? Well, even though there's no manufacturer attached to that model number, the XT- ...

Where are we at now with rumors about the Motorola "X" phone? There was a lot of talk earlier about a huge variety of custom options for the handset, but the recent chatter has downgraded all that to just a lot of different color choices being available. Today a new set of rumors arrive, and they once again return to the idea of alternate case materials. While we had previously heard that color was going to be the only variable, choices as to materials could once again be on the table, with an exotic wooden option specifically named. A group of rumors refers to some interesting X features, ...

A lot of rumors have been flying around about Motorola's next major Android, so far tagged only as the mysterious "X" phone. One of the more captivating ideas to be floated was that Motorola would allow users some unprecedented level of customization over the handset's hardware when they placed their orders. Unfortunately, we saw our hopes dashed pretty quickly, as follow-up rumors dismissed the idea of users getting to choose things like how much RAM the phone would ship with. What remained, at least, was the idea that there still might be options for the phone's exterior, including a ...

By this point the question almost sounds like a broken record: when will we see Google's influence as Motorola's new owner start to reflect on the smartphones the latter releases? We've been talking about it for the better part of the past year, and rumors of models like the X phone have only rekindled the speculation. While the X may primarily be a pre-Google Motorola design, the day will eventually come when this Google-Motorola collaboration finally shows its face. Today we learn a little about what to expect from this device, thanks to Motorola's chief designer, Jim Wicks. We've talked ...

Where's your flagship at, Motorola? The HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4 have long passed simply being announced, and will soon be showing up in the hands of Android fans everywhere. We've been talking a lot about this rumored "X" phone that would be the manufacturer's next great effort, but just when will the model actually hit carriers? Yesterday we got a whole boatload of new rumors regarding Motorola's X phone to weed through, backing down from some of those "customizable" claims from earlier, talking about a launch window, and briefly mentioning some other Motorola devices. Tonight a little bit of new info comes our way, once again tackling the issue of those other Motorola models. According to this source, once the X phone is out, Motorola has at least three more phones it's been working on. Two of those three should be landing in the third quarter of the year, and while info on the duo is sparse, there's apparently a ...
