Motorola's X phone has been the subject of Android rumors for months, but despite all that talk, we haven't had the opportunity to really see what the handset will look like. There has been the odd render or two, but nothing really compelling to convince us "yes, this is the X phone we're looking at." Today, though, a series of new images arrives that could very well be our first chance to check out the X phone in the flesh. Up top you'll see a nice little array of shots of an unknown Motorola handset in testing for AT&T. On their own, they don't tell us too much, and that case ...

There's a lot of news going around today about anticipated phones showing up in Android benchmark databases. A lot of it is seriously suspicious – models purporting to be the "Google Nexus 4 LTE" seem to be trying just a bit too hard to get us to notice them, and while there's an outside chance they could be legit, the smart money is on someone faking the results. Still, amidst all that mess there is one new model that actually has our attention, identified only as the XT1055. So, what could this guy be? Well, even though there's no manufacturer attached to that model number, the XT- ...

Where are we at now with rumors about the Motorola "X" phone? There was a lot of talk earlier about a huge variety of custom options for the handset, but the recent chatter has downgraded all that to just a lot of different color choices being available. Today a new set of rumors arrive, and they once again return to the idea of alternate case materials. While we had previously heard that color was going to be the only variable, choices as to materials could once again be on the table, with an exotic wooden option specifically named. A group of rumors refers to some interesting X features, ...

A lot of rumors have been flying around about Motorola's next major Android, so far tagged only as the mysterious "X" phone. One of the more captivating ideas to be floated was that Motorola would allow users some unprecedented level of customization over the handset's hardware when they placed their orders. Unfortunately, we saw our hopes dashed pretty quickly, as follow-up rumors dismissed the idea of users getting to choose things like how much RAM the phone would ship with. What remained, at least, was the idea that there still might be options for the phone's exterior, including a ...

By this point the question almost sounds like a broken record: when will we see Google's influence as Motorola's new owner start to reflect on the smartphones the latter releases? We've been talking about it for the better part of the past year, and rumors of models like the X phone have only rekindled the speculation. While the X may primarily be a pre-Google Motorola design, the day will eventually come when this Google-Motorola collaboration finally shows its face. Today we learn a little about what to expect from this device, thanks to Motorola's chief designer, Jim Wicks. We've talked ...

Yesterday we got a whole boatload of new rumors regarding Motorola's X phone to weed through, backing down from some of those "customizable" claims from earlier, talking about a launch window, and briefly mentioning some other Motorola devices. Tonight a little bit of new info comes our way, once again tackling the issue of those other Motorola models. According to this source, once the X phone is out, Motorola has at least three more phones it's been working on. Two of those three should be landing in the third quarter of the year, and while info on the duo is sparse, there's apparently a ...

A couple weeks back, we heard a number of rumors about the Motorola X phone, including the compelling tidbit that the phone would be sold to-order with some degree of customizable hardware options. Now that same source is back with more details about this eagerly-awaited Android. First up, some new info on that customizability. The source now claims that "the options will not be as broad as was originally reported," though they could still include things as major as the design of the handset itself. That could involve materials used for the phone's exterior, even including exotic (and ...

Does anyone have a solid grasp on what to expect from Motorola's X phone? If rumors have been accurate, we're just a couple months away from the phone's arrival, yet the proposed specs put forth thus far have been all over the park. Would it have a Tegra 4 chip and some very high-res cameras? What about a Snapdragon and some more conservative shooters? Would the hardware be customizable? While we wait for any kind of confirmation to support one of these theories, a new set of specs arrives, along with a possible render. That's the render up top, and we've got to say, it has us suspicious. ...

One of the most interesting rumors to latch itself to Motorla's so-called X phone has been the idea that the phone (or phones) might be sold with some level of customizable hardware, letting the customer choose just which specs the handset would have at the time of placing an order. While it's only been rumored so far, it's an idea that we've been hoping someone would take a chance on, so we've been curious to learn if it would pan out. We're still a little short on evidence, but some recent comments have us thinking it could be a very real possibility. Google hired Guy Kawasaki, formerly ...

When you go shopping for a car, are you likely to drive off with whatever happens to be on the lot that day, or are you a buyer who likes to customize? Maybe you know the engine you want, the tires you want, and have everything from color to trim to the options package worked-out to a T. The ability to have such control over your purchases is a luxury that's extended to other fields – you can have a computer put together with nearly any combination of specs you can dream up – yet it hasn't made its way to the world of smartphones... yet. Last week, a rumor suggested that Motorola might ...

Ever had your eye on a smartphone but the specs weren't quite what you were looking for? Wished it had 2GB instead of 1GB of RAM, or 64GB instead of 32GB internal storage? A whole new slew of rumors about the Motorola X phone are out, and they suggest that Motorola could give customers more control than ever before with choosing just how the hardware of their new phones is configured. First off, the rumors claim that Motorola X is more of a brand than a single phone, and the first X model will be out in June as an octo-core handset. That gives credence to the idea that we might hear it ...
