Nokia's announcements today have come and gone, and while we didn't end up seeing every last little product we heard rumored, the big ones sure landed. That means that the first Nokia Windows RT tablet is now official, the Lumia 2520. And what a tablet it is: 1080p display, 2GB RAM, LTE connectivity, and the stalwart Snapdragon 800 powering everything. But is it really everything it could be? Nokia says the tablet "takes everything you've got in your desktop or laptop and crams all that into a device that’s only 8.9mm thick and weighs a little over a pound." Well, I don't think that's ...

This has been a year full of believers and non-believers in a Nokia that would ever build a tablet. The world has been full of rumors, but it took the company so long to actually make those rumors true, that even some of the believers began losing faith, and specially when the words "Windows RT" were included in the mix. Still, the product is now a reality, and we can't wait to give it a try. As expected, the Lumia 2520 looks like a bloated Lumia smartphone, though it packs a 10-inch 1080p display that boasts brightness at an impressive 650 nits under Gorilla Glass 2. It's packing LTE ...

Microsoft's first round of Surface tablets wasn't without its problems, and for us many of those focused squarely on the Surface RT. We had question not just about whether or not the tablet's hardware was up to the job, but also about the idea of Windows RT in the first place, offering users a seriously limited slice of the greater Windows ecosystem. This year, we saw Microsoft drop the "RT" from the Surface 2's name and wondered if this was some way to distance itself from the RT brand. Some comments from Microsoft product marketing manager Jack Cowett have us thinking about another ...

Black, white, red, and cyan were the colors mentioned in the first Nokia Lumia 2520 leak, and we've already seen the cyan and the red variants' renders. However, a new leak, this time, from another source, seems to add two additional colors to the table: yellow and green. The tablet is expected to be unveiled at Nokia's October 22 event, alongside other Nokia devices. As far as this leak is concerned -- you can see renders of all purported colors at the source link -- we advise you to stay a bit skeptical, because we're dealing with a new leakster (the Twitter account has been created for ...

Here's a quick one! Remember the Nokia Lumia 2520 leak from yesterday? It was an alleged press render of a cyan Nokia tablet, allegedly codenamed Lumia 2520, which will be available, according to the report, in black, white, red, and cyan. After seeing the cyan model render, we are today presented with the red variant. We can, of course, expect to see the other two color options being leaked, but we'd be more interested in seeing the back of the slate, alongside some hardware details. Nokia is expected to unleash several products at its Abu Dhabi October 22 event, and the above tablet is ...

We were only just thinking about the struggles Microsoft's had with its first-gen Surface tablets, specifically the Surface RT, as news arrived that sales of this year's new Surface 2 models could be off to a strong start. But even as Microsoft gets ready to put the original Surface RT behind it, it doesn't look like it's quite willing to forget about just how bit a mess that all was, and at least some of the blame is falling on Steve Ballmer – and his pocketbook. Microsoft just published its 2013 proxy statement, which discusses executive compensation. Now, Microsoft's a big company, ...

We first heard about a certain RX-114 codenamed Nokia tablet back in July with the occasion of some benchmark results, and we advised everyone to treat the info with caution, knowing that these results can be faked. Towards the end of August, the same model number Nokia tablet popped up in reports, again, this time alongside some other model numbers from the Finns (and said report accurately predicted Microsoft's Surface 2 plans). Now said Nokia RX-114 tablet got approved by the FCC and judging by the frequencies supported in its radio it could very well work with AT&T, T-Mobile, ...

According to a recent leak, trying to predict an upcoming Nokia product, the tablet which we've known so far under the codename Sirius, will apparently be called the Nokia Lumia 2520. Depending on which reports you tend to believe, the Lumia 2520 will land on October 22, together with the Lumia 1520 phablet, or at another date. Nokia has already published some teasers for that day. As far as the specs for the Sirius, now Lumia 2520, are concerned, the slate is expected to run Windows RT and pack a 10.1-inch 1080p screen with a quad-core processor. Source: @evleaks (Twitter)

Microsoft finds itself in an unusual position in the tablet market. Unlike iOS or Android, where while apps may be optimized for phone or tablet form factors, or even refuse to run on one or the other, a large portion have no problem working on either. For Microsoft, there's a brick wall around its WP8 devices, another around RT models, and a third around gear running full-blown Windows. We've already heard of efforts to streamline development between these disparate sectors, but could some of those walls themselves be coming down? It's an idea being talked about this morning, following ...

The idea that Nokia could finally be making a Windows tablet has been kicking around for a while now, and rumors have taken a few swings at identifying some of the hardware we'd see in this 10.1-inch Windows RT device, codenamed Sirius. While it had started to feel like this model was actually going to launch, some new rumors are singing a different tune, and claim that Microsoft could be trying to kill Sirius as part of its Nokia acquisition deal. According to Eldar Murtazin, even with the deal not yet finalized, Microsoft is already trying to influence Nokia's product decisions, and is ...

The Microsoft Surface Mini isn't the only upcoming Windows tablet whose details are getting a little fleshed-out today. Beyond just sharing a few new tidbits about that eight-incher, Paul Thurrott has a number of things to say about some other upcoming tablets, including the Nokia model we've been so anxiously following. We've already heard a decent amount about this 10.1-inch Windows RT tablet, codenamed Sirius. That's included specs like a Snapdragon 800, 2GB of RAM, and 1080p screen. Thurrott expands upon all that with a few specifics. While we had a general sense of size and weight ...

We've been talking a fair amount about upcoming Surface tablets lately, first thanks to a wave of rumors arriving to attempt to outline the hardware changes we'd be seeing, and then upon Microsoft sending out invitations for a Surface event later this month. Some of those rumors talked about the possibility that, in addition to a new Surface 2 (née RT) and Surface Pro 2, we'd also see the arrival of a smaller Surface Mini. Today, we hear a few details about the tablet, including how it might launch. Supposedly, the Surface Mini will have an eight-inch display and will run Windows RT. It ...

All the way back in February we heard about an interesting accessory that seemed destined for Microsoft's Surface tablets, a new spin on the company's keyboard covers that would also include an extra battery, augmenting the built-in cell. We heard a Microsoft employee talking about building support for such an accessory into the Surface Pro – a move we assumed would mean that this new cover would be forthcoming – but it never ended up appearing. Now, as we're looking towards the launch of Microsoft's second generation Surface tablets, this idea is finding some new life, and rumors ...

Dell really hasn't had much luck in recent years with smartphone and tablets. The company was once a heavyweight back in the Windows Mobile days, but its portable offerings have really hit tough times lately. The Dell Streak was one of the first products we could call a phablet, yet it never really caught on, a fate shared with the Dell Venue and Venue Pro, leading to their cancellation last year. Since then, we've seen a couple tablets from the company, and now we're hearing a little about what's next for Dell; it looks like the name of the game is going to be "even more Windows tablets." ...

While this would make a lot of sense for some (and, on the contrary, to others), we'll tell you to treat this rumor, right from the beginning, accordingly. Apparently, report has it that Microsoft is planning on unifying Windows Phone and Windows RT. The information comes from a source that claims knowledge of Windows 9 and Windows 10 plans (we're currently at Windows 8.1). According to said source, the two platforms, one for the smartphone, and one for the tablet, will be, at one point, allegedly merged. There's no other information to back it up, so, as usual, it leaves room for ...

According to a recent Adduplex blog post, there are a couple of new devices that have accessed its Windows ad network. Among them, two Microsoft names have popped up: first is the  Microsoft Corporation Surface 2, which could very well be the follow-up to the Microsoft Surface RT. We've given it the After the Buzz treatment recently but after the entire fiasco, the Redmond-company might opt to ditch the "RT" from the tablet's name altogether. Second is the "Microsoft Corporation Surface with Windows 8.1 Pro", which could either be the next-gen Surface Pro, or a Surface Pro running a ...

A couple weeks back we got a brief look at what purported to be a Windows RT Nokia tablet. A few specs were mentioned, like how it would run a Snapdragon 800 SoC and feature a 10-inch 1080p display, but we neither had a very complete picture of the device, nor had reason to be particularly confident in the source. Today, further confirmation keeps making this Nokia tablet sound more and more real, now tipped to be under development as codename Sirius. That's one of those Nokia codenames mentioned in a recent leak. This source reaffirms a 10.1-inch 1080p screen, and one that's supposed to ...

When companies fight, customers (usually) lose - but podcasters win, big time. On this episode of the Pocketnow Weekly, we'll be reaping some of the few benefits of the great Google-Microsoft battle of 2013: namely, the ability to piss and moan and armchair-quarterback. Fortunately, we've got plenty of ammunition for the discussion, as we're also fresh from customizing our own Moto X devices, re-reviewing the Surface RT, and observing the initial, wobbly launch efforts behind the ATIV S Neo - not to mention wildly speculating about the almost-certainly-fictitious HTC One (Windows Phone 8 ...

Most new device launches go the same way: usually the press gets review units before they’re widely available, and we get to use them for a few days -or a week if we’re lucky- as we work on our review. Then press day arrives. The embargo on media coverage lifts, and everyone posts their reviews and videos at the same time. It’s a huge frenzy, commenters go nuts, and it’s a giant explosion of frantic opinion-sharing activity. For about … a day. And then it all goes away. Sure, there’s followup coverage as people find bugs and hidden features, but after that initial blast, not ...

Rumors abound. What will Nokia bring to the table next? This year, we've already seen 3 flagship variants for three different carriers, an ultra camera wonder launch on AT&T, and the rumor mill continues to churn out different flavors of different in the near future. Next up on Nokia's playlist could either be a Windows Phone phablet, or a Windows RT tablet. We're going to discuss (and by “discuss” I mean I'll write a bunch and you'll read – hopefully) the Windows RT scenario. Nokia has been doing a lot of things right for a long time now. There were lots of rumors concerning a future possible Nokia-made tablet but the Finnish company has, almost every time, debunked the information. We've heard nothing specific out of Espoo, that would hint towards its tablet plans, though everybody has been hoping (others were certain) that it will happen eventually. The images above, coming from China, depict what appears to be a slate, with three brands being called out on the back: Nokia, Windows RT, and Verizon. Are we looking at a Nokia Windows RT tablet for Big Red? Your guess is as good as ours, though recent rumors talk about a ...

Microsoft's Surface tablets – and the Surface RT in particular – haven't been the runaway hits the company might have hoped for. Recently, we've witnessed a number of price cuts in efforts to boost sales, and learned of the nearly billion dollar losses Microsoft was facing due to making more Surface RTs than it could sell. Now a lawsuit seeks to hold Microsoft accountable for its failings, accusing the company of engaging in false and misleading statements regarding Surface sales. Specifically, the suit says that in the three months up leading to the revelation of Microsoft's massive ...
