Yesterday was just full of Windows Phone 8 news out of Verizon. Not only did we learn that the carrier would be kicking-off pre-orders for the HTC 8X and Nokia Lumia 822 as of today, but we also heard about the inclusion of wireless charging support in the 8X's hardware. Now that Verizon's taking customer pre-orders, it's given us an idea of just when these phones will start showing up on customers' doorsteps. By and large, Windows Phone 8 pre-orders placed through Verizon will ship by next Tuesday, November 13. That includes both the 8X and the 822, though there is an exception: if you ...

In order to save battery power Windows Phone is turning WiFi off when the device is sleeping (screen off) relying on your data connection (if available) to keep all the sync activities working. According to a recent report Windows Phone could use your data for streaming music from the Xbox cloud even if WiFi is available. How is this possible? Since WiFi is turned off when sleeping, if the streaming process has started in that state, it will reportedly continue to stream over Data Connection even if WiFi is available. Said report mentions that the issue happened several times on a Windows ...

When it comes to wireless charging and Windows Phone 8, Nokia may the manufacturer in the spotlight, but it's not the only game in town for users who are looking to simplify their lives with the convenience of wire-free charging. After some rumors in recent days suggested it could be a possibility, Verizon has gone ahead and confirmed that its version of the HTC Windows Phone 8X will ship with support for wireless charging. Now, before you start getting too excited, this isn't nearly as interesting as the free charging pads being given away with the already-super-cheap Nokia Lumia 920. ...

A couple days back, AT&T shared the details of how its first Windows Phone 8 handsets would arrive, with pre-orders opening yesterday and outright sales beginning tomorrow. Not content to let AT&T get all the attention, Verizon is now coming through with some launch details of its own. The first two WP8 models to land at Verizon will be the HTC 8X and Nokia Lumia 822. While the carrier isn't saying when either will actually arrive with any more specificity than "sometime before Thanksgiving", pre-orders for both models will begin early tomorrow morning. The 16GB HTC 8X will sell ...

Windows Phone 8 handsets are just about to drop, though many of us have still been wondering when exactly when we'd get the specifics on just how they'd arrive. Yesterday, we thought we finally had the scoop on the Nokia Lumia 920 and its launch on AT&T, tipped to arrive for just about $150 on-contract. It turns out that was not just a little premature, but slightly off, as well; today AT&T makes things official, announcing pricing and availability for the Lumia 920, Lumia 820, and HTC Windows Phone 8X. Instead of $150, the Lumia 920 will sell for just under $100. Just like we ...

It's no secret that Nokia's Lumia 920 isn't the most petite smartphone around. As we noted after getting some hands-on time with the model, the phone's thickness and weight are definitely a departure from the thinness-above-all-else design paradigm that seems to drive the development of some other handsets. Ultimately, we didn't feel that the added bulk was much of a big deal, but not all users will agree. HTC, for one, is trying to capitalize on its WP8 handsets' more svelte measurements, poking fun at the 920's weight on Facebook. HTC's post advises users not to "get weighed down", ...

We're currently reviewing the Windows Phone 8X by HTC and, until our full review is up --hint, soon-- you can check out the unboxing just to get a feel for what you'll find in the box. We've recently seen some Verizon training documents and today's leak seems to bring confirmation of wireless charging on the 8X, something the Lumia 920 was considered to have as an advantage over the Taiwanese phone. As you can see in the screenshot below, you will be able to charge this phone wirelessly with the help of a wireless charging pad which will be sold separately. The all-but-confirmed price tag ...

This morning in San Francisco, Microsoft took the wraps off Windows Phone 8, the latest iteration of its smartphone operating system and the mobile companion to its new desktop OS. While it's undergone a radical change to its underpinnings, swapping out its old foundation for the same kernel and core used by its full-sized Windows 8 counterpart, the massive overhaul isn't apparent from a visual perspective. The new OS features the same minimalistic tile-based user interface we've come to know and love from Windows Phone 7, with some tweaks to tile sizes, layout, and animations. Especially ...

Here's our unboxing video and first boot of the Windows Phone 8x by HTC. This is a pre-release device which does not include final packaging or software, but you can get a good idea of what it's going to come with and how the first-boot sequence is going to be. You do get stereo headphones with the device, which is a good idea since this one has Beats Audio with a dedicated audio amplifier built in. Of course, you get a MicroUSB cable (that's kind of short), and a USB charging adapter. There's also a little MicroSIM card slot pin that you'll need to use to open the tray on the phone in ...
