A new Xbox Live game for Windows Phone 7 was released before Christmas and has quickly taken the number 1 spot in the best sellers list in the Marketplace. Fruit Ninja is a very popular little game, and it's a lot of fun. Take a look at the video below to see how it works and what kind of features it offers. Of course, it's a port from the popular iPhone and Android game, but adds Xbox LIVE integration such as Avatar display, achievements, and leaderboards.

A cool new application was featured today in the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace and it's called "Be a Martian" from NASA. This app is pretty cool since it lets you download NASA imagery of Mars and then you can help analyze it and send the data back to NASA. You can download images from the Mars rovers: Spirit and Opportunity then "tag" the images in order to identify the sky, ground, rover's shadow, etc. In other words, you can help identify what's in the image. You can also download satellite imagery of Mars and tap each crater in order to help count all of the craters on Mars (and of ...

I was really hoping that Microsoft would release a really great version of Windows Live Messenger for Windows Phone 7. You know, something that would have many of the same features that Live Messenger 2011 on the Zune HD has, but even more impressive. Unfortunately, we were left with nothing but a 3rd party Live Messenger app by Miyowa, who's first version was a real downer. It crashed a lot, didn't support push notifications, and occasionally did screwy things to your contact photo or display name. That app has been recently updated to version 1.2, and it has gotten much better. Now, ...

If you downloaded the original YouTube app for Windows Phone 7, you might have been disappointed to see that it only really links to the mobile YouTube site. Sure it does enable YouTube video playback for embedded YouTube videos, too, but it's not as feature-rich as some of the YouTube apps on other platforms. Well, a 3rd party developer decided to make a better interface for browsing YouTube on Windows Phone 7. YouTube by Lazyworm is designed to create a nice Metro style browsing experience for exploring YouTube videos. It doesn't have settings for defining things like the quality of the ...

Here's a fun app that makes use of your Xbox Live Avatar. Avatar Gadgets is $0.99 in the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace and it gives your avatar a few fun utilities to play with. You've got a ruler, flashlight, lighter, coin flip, level, and bobble head. Your 3D Avatar character will interact with all of these little utilities and it's pretty funny to see him do so. You can also switch characters and load some one else's Xbox Live Avatar in order to see them working with the tools.

It will continue to play music while the screen is locked, however playback will stop once you navigate into another application.

The "Attentive Phone" app from HTC is a free download for Windows Phone 7's from HTC and it adds a few nice accelerometer feature enhancements to the Windows Phone 7 dialer. Well, actually it adds 4 enhancements. You can quiet the ring on pickup, so if you're phone's just laying on the desk the ring will be loud and then when you pick it up, it will quiet down. Pocket mode is pretty nice. That will use the proximity sensor to tell if the phone is in your pocket and will increase the ringer volume accordingly. If you're currently in a call, you can flip the phone face down on a table in ...

Way back in March, we first learned that Netflix was working on an application for Windows Phone 7. It looked quite good and had a smooth Metro interface. Fast forward several months, and the free Netflix app is finally available. While the interface has changed a bit from how remember it, it's still quite nice. The application is exclusively for streaming, so don't expect to manage your online queue. If you're already a Netflix customer, you already know that the selection of streamable movies is quite good, and the mobile app brings forth this great selection. Quality was quite good over ...

We were recently tipped to a new Windows Phone 7 app called "Polyglot". This is a pretty basic text translation program with a text to speech feature for the pronunciations. It's powered by Microsoft translator, and has a decent design. There are two vertical input panels with scrollable language selectors on the left. Select a language to translate from, then a language to translate to, type some text, and hit the translate button. Unfortunately, the keyboard's automatic prediction features are not enabled in this apps text fields and there isn't a whole lot you can do with the translated ...

When I first downloaded the "Local Concerts" app for Windows Phone 7, I expected it to simply show a listing of concerts showing near a specified location on certain days. Of course the app does do that pretty well, but what surprised me was that it also looks at my music library on the phone and shows me nearby, upcoming concerts by musicians that it knows I already listen to. For example, Brandon recently said to me, "Hey, you might like this band; Florence and the Machine." So I hit the search button in the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace and downloaded an album. Then when I swiped to the ...
