That didn't take long, did it? Announced at the beginning of May, the Samsung Focus 2 has been available since May 20 and the Windows Phone 7.5 "Tango" update has also been out there for quite some time. However, Focus 2 owners on AT&T are just now getting a notification to install the refresh. After applying the update you will be prompted to install an additional refresh; when the process is complete the version numbers should read 2103.12.10.1 for the firmware and 2103.12.9.1 for the Radio. The "Tango" update was the one that Microsoft developed to allow Windows Phones with lower ...

Even with Windows Phone 8 about to hit the scene, Nokia's far from done with WP7, and we've heard about the company's work on an all-new handset along those lines, the Lumia 510. Earlier this month, we got the chance to check out a couple images of the phone in the wild, where it still appeared to be running Tango. We're still anxious to get a closer look at the hardware itself, but in the meantime we have a fresh test pic from the 510's camera to check out. Snapped last week, the image's EXIF data reports it as coming from the Lumia 510, as well as confirms that the phone isn't yet ...

With so much focus on Nokia's new Lumia models, it's easy to lose sight of the company's existing lineup, especially when that comes to the lower-end of its offerings, the Lumia 610. Sales of budget-priced smartphones are still a huge deal to the manufacturers making them available, which may explain why Nokia's so excited about the new software update it has ready to go for the 610, promising to deliver some system-wide improvements. No, we're not quite into Windows Phone 7.8 territory just yet, but Nokia's not about to sit back and wait for that to arrive to introduce its own ...

Chinese manufacturer ZTE has introduced the Orbit at this year's MWC in February. We've seen official wording just one day before the show started and we've managed to get our hands-on with the device on the show floor, at the manufacturer's booth. After exactly seven months from its unveiling the phone has now landed on US Cellular's Windows Phone line-up (where it sits together with the good old 7Pro from HTC). Back in February it was the first Windows Phone 7.5 Tango-powered device we've laid our hands and eyes on. It packs a  four-inch WVGA screen, 1GHz processor, 4GB of internal ...

It was good while it lasted! Even though it's been a bumpy road, it has now come to an end; the ChevronWP7 team warned users back in June that on August 11, unlocks they purchased and applied will expire and that Microsoft will proceed to re-locking phones starting August 11. Thanks to the latest official post on the ChevronWP7 website we now get a confirmation (not that we needed one). They say "all Windows Phone developer unlocks via the Chevron Labs service expired August 11, 2012". Upon syncing with Zune, Microsoft will re-lock phones unless you have moved to a paid App Hub account ...

The official Windows Phone 7.5 Tango update for the HTC Trophy on Verizon should land very soon (might even grace your phone today, according to recent reports). The carrier announced the refresh which updates the phone's OS to Windows Phone 7.5 MCR3. As far as the new additions are concerned, the Trophy will get Tango-specific WiFi Hotspot capability as well as enhanced multimedia messaging capabilities with multi-picture attachments, video attachments as well as the ability to send and receive ringtones. If the reports turn out to be true, you should receive an update notification after ...

Pull up the official Windows Phone update history website, and you might notice some inconsistencies with just how much information Microsoft chooses to share. Back when NoDo arrived, the company highlighted all the new features in some detail. That's a stark contrast with Tango, where Microsoft's description of the update only touches on messaging features in any depth, lumping all the rest together under "includes many other improvements to Windows Phone". Why isn't Microsoft providing detailed changelogs of the features in recent updates? According to a new report, this is an ...

The Pink Nokia Lumia 900 becomes available for pre-orders today, July 15, but that's not the only good news (if at all for most) that Nokia and AT&T have prepared for you. Starting today, the price of the phone on AT&T has been dramatically reduced so those who didn't purchase it yet have one more reason to grab one. Starting today, instead of $99 and a two-year contract you will be able to buy an AT&T Nokia Lumia 900 for $49.99. Whether this is one (last) push for the phone -- in light of the Windows Phone 8 news and the platform's coming -- is yet unknown. Should you buy a ...

The Nokia Lumia 900 seems to be among the most popular Windows Phones on the market at the moment and fans of the platform can grab the device from AT&T in white, black and cyan. Nokia is announcing the addition of another color, probably trending with the summer (or targeting female customers): pink. If you want to grab one and be different, you can pre-order it starting July 15 either in a brick-and-mortar AT&T store or online. Of course, Nokia can't stress it enough that the colors of the Lumia 900 (pink included) are not painted on top of a plastic but are deeply residing ...

Windows Phone build 8779 popped up on July 6 on NaviFirm without any specific details, as an update to grace some of the Nokia Windows Phones after the Tango refresh. Now the Finnish manufacturer is confirming software updates for three of its Lumia devices, namely the 610, 710 and 900. The Lumia 610 will get firmware version 1066.0000.8779.12201 which brings enhanced sensitivity for proximity sensor performance and improved sound level for alarm tone during voice calls. The Lumia 710 will receive version 1600.3031.8779.12180 with Internet sharing and flip to mute while the Lumia 900 ...

Some Nokia Lumia 710 and 800 devices are already getting the Windows Phone 8773 update -- dubbed Tango, which is running out-of-the-box on the Lumia 610 -- but it sure looks like the Finnish phone maker will not stop right here. A new update popped up on NaviFirm and it looks to be Windows Phone 8779. The update's regions are listed as being countries like Thailand, Pakistan, India, Lebanon, and Tunisia so it could only bring features which would improve the user experience in these markets. With many features already included in the Tango refresh -- like internet sharing, flip phone ...

The news that Windows 8 won't be coming to existing handsets can't be doing much to make owners of those phones feel like their handsets are still well-supported. Despite those misgivings, we're at least seeing Tango distribution continue to spread, hitting the Lumia 710 and 800. While we expect Nokia to be on top updates for its models, today we get a little news that's somewhat surprising, with the first reports of Tango arriving for Dell's Venue Pro. The DVP has never seemed able to catch a break, getting Mango late, facing problems with its WiFi connectivity, and having a broken ...

Back when Windows Phone was first released in late 2010, of course there was a Twitter app available, but no one ever bothered to set up the server-side option for pushing live tiles or notifications for twitter activity like mentions, direct messages, or anything.  That made room for a whole host of 3rd party Twitter apps that were much more functional with all the Twitter functions you'd expect.  Today we finally see an update to the official Twitter app that finally brings push notifications for direct messages, mentions, new follows, favorited tweets, and retweets.  Above you ...

Those who were eagerly anticipating BlackBerry 10 devices will be deeply disappointed as Research In Motion has postponed the arrival of the gadgets until 2013 -- because development has "proven to be more time-consuming than anticipated". Unnamed sources said that the Canadian company is considering its options after admitting that the company might not survive with its current strategy. One of these options would be to follow Nokia's example and strike a strategic alliance with Microsoft to deliver BlackBerry handsets running on the Windows Phone platform. Such an option could also ...

A Windows Phone update should land shortly for Nokia Lumia 710 and 800 devices as promised earlier by the manufacturer. The targeted release date for these updates should be today as it is scheduled to go out "globally from June 27th in a phased update through Zune". You can check on the update to see the status by following the link below. It gives you detailed information pe region (and we checked, for the moment all the statuses are "waiting for approval" but this should change soon). As a reminder, the refresh should bring three important things to your Lumia 71- and Lumia 800: ...
