One of the biggest changes you can argue 2014 brought in was OEMs decoupling crucial apps from UI skins and giving them their own homes on the Google Play Store. HTC, over the last few months, has been doing exactly that, and today the HTC weather app has found itself on Play. I was driving from Canada to Boston several months back, about halfway back from the BlackBerry 10 unveiling in Toronto, when an unfriendly darkness crept up over the horizon ahead.
