You might remember that the Android 2.2 Froyo powered LG Optimus One, to which the manufacturer refers to as the "transitional smartphone", scored fairly well in benchmarks being almost on par with the Nexus One. We thought that the low-end LG Vortex Android 2.2 device was going to be free, but it looks like that is not the case. Verizon has just officially announced that its Optimus One variant will be selling for around $80 after a $100 mail in rebate and new contract. Considering this device packs a paltry QVGA touchscreen (yes, that's 320x240) at a miniscule 3.2", we're hoping for some price promotions in the near future to get the price down to more reasonable levels.
