Did you happen to catch that latest iPhone SE commercial starring Neil Patrick Harris on TV last night? No? Well, it might be because Apple is yet to put together a star-studded publicity stunt for its newest 4-incher, instead continuing to invest the big advertising bucks in keeping the aging iPhone 6s in the limelight. NPH pops up for a few seconds in one of two new 6s adverts, awarding… a trophy of sorts to a teenage girl/amateur filmmaker for a home video about... onions. The micro-budget production becomes an instant mainstream hit, which is totally believable, with viewers left in ...

2016 is off to a terrific smartphone start. Samsung's focus this year is on refining what we liked about the Galaxy S6. We keep the metal and glass build, with more of a Note 5 style curved back, and lifestyle features like water resistance and MicroSD card expansion return. The second year of this hardware look has produced a formidable handset. HTC is getting back to basics. The One M9 fell prey to the performance concerns of the Qualcomm 810, and featured some rough design element. The HTC 10 polishes those edges, and delivers on performance. What a difference one year makes... Over 2015 LG landed critical praise after launching phones like the G4 and the V10. While the G Flex 2 was caught up in the performance issues surrounding the Qualcomm 810, LG handled their following phones gracefully, extracting as much power as they could from the lower end Qualcomm 808. HTC struggled to find its footing after the launch of the One M9, a phone also poorly received due to performance concerns and for including a "good" camera against some truly great photography competitors. Later that year they also tried to utilize a lower power ...

You won't find a more in-depth examination of a phone camera anywhere else online... Many companies have tried producing phones with dual cameras. HTC for example has played with both 3D and depth camera sensors on various EVOs and M8's. Instead of depth information or color accuracy, LG's approach is to offer two completely different cameras and separate shooting modes. One camera has a standard field of view which is very similar to the G4 it replaces. A 16MP camera, 1/2.6" sensor, 28mm equivalent focal length and an f/1.8 aperture. The other camera is an extreme wide angle shooter. An ...

If you don't know why the term "ghetto" is socially unacceptable as a descriptive term (to say the least), perhaps you should look into our Further Reading link. Sprint looked to no one before publishing one of its videos from the Listening Tour that CEO Marcelo Claure is conducting across the nation. The order of any given clip would be for Claure to ask his panel about words that came to mind when mentioning a carrier. The clip in question came down to this one woman who said: Oh my god, the first word that came to my head was ... ghetto. The executive nods his head and says "yes," ...

Back in February when we were briefed by LG, the company claimed the main inspiration for the G5 was, quote on quote "to wake up our play instinct" and end the boredom surrounding smartphones lately. The era of experimentation ended in 2007, and the market is currently in desperate need for a shake up. Whether LG has achieved that goal has been a major topic for debate and controversy over the last few weeks, and it's now time to reach our final thoughts and conclusions. Innovation is hard to come by these days. Ever since the first iPhone launch, competitors have stopped experimenting, ...

Not our usual camera showdown, but the folks at Oppo describe the new F1 Plus as a "selfie expert" phone. While rear mounted cameras are usually higher quality, and are the preferred tools for most people when we discuss mobile content creations, we can't deny the selfie phenomenon. There's a distinct smartphone consumer who might never use that rear camera, but depends on a front camera to capture their important moments. The F1 Plus is a curious beast for us smartphone camera snobs. The rear camera is a fairly traditional 13MP shooter, but the front camera is a 16MP monster capable of ...

When it comes to choosing the right smartphone this year, companies like Samsung and LG could not have made it more complicated. I'll be honest, the song tries too hard to imitate K-pop by using tropes that would better fit different voices. I mean, give me either EXID or Perfume any given day, but don't fault the six-member act lyrical school for trying. Especially don't hate on the A Million Miles video production: it's a fantastic concept that doesn't necessarily "hack" or "take over" your phone so much as exploit all of iOS's features for your visual pleasure. The group's new song, "RUN and RUN," runs through a fast 3:48 inside an iPhone 6s and emulates every bit of the interface to deliver lyrics and dancing ...
