The Galaxy Note 7's digitized stylus, the S Pen, has gotten sleeker, more durable and smarter. The tip of the S Pen now measures 0.7mm, less than half the size of the Note 5's pen — it allows for pinpoint wisps. If you're working with a wide brush for oil paint colors, you can also mix them to generate colors as you would with real acrylic while at the other end of the stylus, you can erase what you need to erase. SVP of Product Strategy Justin Denison also told of more software feature including instant text translation on highlight and "Smart Select," which can crop a portion off a ...

Following an epileptic opening ceremony and a melodious collage of national anthems to follow along with the Olympic spirit, Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Note 7. Company president Dongjin Koh calls it the "world's most intelligent smartphone" and an entry into the fastest growing category of such phones: the phablet. Big points about the Note 7 were presented before the phone was even announced like the iris scanner, — with applications for keeping parents' children safe (and vice versa) along with mobile banking — the device's water-resistance, its wireless charging ...

This supposed phablet started out in the rumor mills as the Samsung Galaxy Note 6. Since then, we've been trying to parse together the ins and outs, the hairpins and straightaways, and all of the jokes claiming that six was too afraid of seven because the marketing team got involved. We are T minus five days to the next Samsung Unpacked event in New York, which is where we expect the Galaxy Note 7 to be launched. What better time to look back at how we, the tech media, have built this speculative motherboard up? Power The Note's legacy has been to be the leading edge of how much horsepower ...

If you're ready for a waterproof, iris-scanning, curvy, adrenaline-powered beast to thrust out of its box, — or something kind of like that, if you don't believe the chatter — perhaps you should stay tuned here. Tech outlets including Pocketnow are being invited to the next Samsung Unpacked event on August 2 at 11am in New York. Samsung.com will also livestream the event. The invite picture itself is a clever yet simple picture of a loading indicator circle with the seventh pin from the top highlighted. Or, should we rather say "S Pen?" If you can't get watch the live video, keep us ...

You know what, Samsung? We get it. You saw that we were a little unhappy with some of the changes for last year's Galaxy S6, dropping cool GS5 features like storage expansion and water resistance, and now with the Galaxy S7 nearly ready to land, you're making sure that you don't repeat past mistakes. For the past few days now, Samsung's really been teasing its upcoming Unpacked event, and make allusions as to what we can expect from “the next Galaxy.” We've already seen Samsung Indonesia hint pretty strongly at the return of water resistance for the GS7 (even if that “GS7e” ...

Has the stress of organizing a major smartphone launch gotten to Samsung's head? We understand – there's a lot of pressure on you when you're on top and the world's looking at you to deliver smash hit after smash hit – and sometimes that kind of strain can manifest itself in … interesting ways. In advance of Sunday's MWC Unpacked event, where we're expecting Samsung to formally announce the Galaxy S7, the company's helping to generate buzz with a “Seven Days of Unboxing” campaign, giving us a new unboxing video every day until the GS7 launches. And while it started out normally ...

With MWC so close over the horizon, and some of its big flagship devices having leaked as thoroughly as they have, it's easy to start getting a little cynical: why look forward to the expo when we already know what we're getting? But that would be a foolish position to take, and for as much as we may think we know about the new hardware about to make its debut, we're nearly guaranteed to find ourselves facing some big surprises. Take Samsung, for instance: the Galaxy S7 may be leaking six ways from Sunday, but the same can't be said for every device we could be meeting at Unpacked – like ...

Samsung's next Unpacked event is scheduled for February 21 in Barcelona, the day before this year's Mobile World Congress formally gets started. And while Samsung hasn't quite out and admitted it just yet, you don't have to be a modern-day Nostradamus to have a pretty good idea that we're likely to see the tech giant introduce this year's smartphone flagship, the Galaxy S7. Over the past few weeks and months we've been hitting the Galaxy S7 rumor beat with gusto, covering all angles of reports claiming to offer a little early insight into just what to expect from this year's offerings: how ...

With under three weeks to go until MWC 2016 kicks off, interest in the show is heating up fast, especially as companies like LG confirm plans to launch long-rumored flagship phones. Beyond LG, we're also extremely interested in what Samsung's got coming our way at its Unpacked event, and even if Samsung's not yet ready to go the LG route and outright tell us what's on the menu (*cough* GS7 *cough*) there have been more than enough rumors to hold us over. One of those rumors concerned a possible accessory for the Galaxy S7 (and its presumed Gear VR), a dual-lens spherical camera Capablanca ...

Update: Samsung has mailed invites for the press to attend its Unpacked 2016 event in Barcelona, confirming the February 21 date. It's the same date and general location as LG's planned "Play" event. When you have nothing to do on a Saturday night and you find yourself fielding a big, juicy tip on what's going on with one of the most hyped Android devices of the season, you know something's up. Evan Blass volleys two big screenshots of what may be a promo video for #TheNextGalaxy event that is scheduled for February 21, three weeks from today and 19 days before shipment supposedly begins ...

We have a full month before Mobile World Congress 2016 kicks off in Barcelona. That's when we're expecting several big'uns to arrive on the mobile flagship stage. It's been a topsy-turvy roundabout for Samsung watchers, though, as tidbits have been dropping about the Galaxy S7 for the longest time, perhaps even longer than what we've dealt with for the HTC One M8. Want it to be over? Evan Blass has a date to look out for: Starting to look like a Friday, March 11th Galaxy release in the U.S. — Evan Blass (@evleaks) January 22, 2016 We shouldn't be complicit to the fact that Evan Blass ...

With the new year so close we can taste it, excitement about early-2016 smartphones is already hitting peak levels, and few phones are as eagerly anticipated as what Samsung's cooking up for the Galaxy S7. Recent rumors have kept us guessing as to exactly what the hardware spread will look like, suggesting the manufacturer could pare back the sheer number of GS7 family members we'll get, and we look forward to seeing just how accurate those reports might be. For now, though, we're checking back in with a couple other GS7 leaks and rumors, as new information arrives about Samsung's possible ...

We expected Samsung to beat the crowd in introducing its 2016 "spring" flagship. All we were doing was debating how early. We heard musings of the chaebol trying to find space in Las Vegas in time for CES next month. But we've kept listening to Korean sources that have said that Samsung will reserve itself for February. Well, one of the shoes dropped today as Samsung gave out invitations to its Tuesday press conference at CES. We don't know what's on the playbill for the event, but given the Consumer Electronics Show's wide showcase of products and that Samsung makes TVs and refrigerators, ...

How often do you stop to look at your phone's design? Sometimes it seems like the manufacturers of these smartphones don't seem to care. We think Samsung didn't really care for a couple of years between the Galaxy SIII and the Galaxy S4. While the S5 might've been somewhat of an aesthetic nightmare, at least it was something different. This year's flagship devices from the Korean OEM have been a splendid, premium and glassy surprise. We might be getting splendid, premium and glassy all over again in 2016 and it won't be a surprise according to an source. A source said that the focus will ...

Earlier today, I posted a piece arguing that the Galaxy S 5 doesn't deserve all the crap it's getting from smartphone enthusiasts who were expecting more from Samsung's new Android flagship. While I stand by that opinion, the device's flaws still need pointing out - and I think a very big one can be found in the Galaxy S 5 fingerprint scanner. There are certainly larger laments to air when it comes to the newest Galaxy. The storage problem, the familiar look of TouchWiz, the resemblance of the back cover to a Band-Aid - all of it is important (in the way that arguments about the minutiae ...

When we asked a Samsung rep to clarify the differences between the Gear 2 Neo and its simply named (but better-endowed) sibling at today's Unpacked event, we were surprised to learn just how shallow those differences were. The Neo drops the camera, leaving the IR port to fend for itself in its tiny porthole up top, but aside from the accompanying reduction in size and mass, the watches are essentially identical. That means the Gear 2 Neo packs the same Tizen OS, the same heart rate sensor around back, the same 4GB of local storage, and the same tightened hardware build that allows for ...

The leaks were right on. Samsung's newest Android flagship arrived right on schedule today, bearing the pockmarked skin the photos predicted and nearly all the features the spec sheets promised. The long-lasting AMOLED-equipped device is familiar both in form factor and general capabilities, but it carries an upgraded 16MP camera with special HDR and focus functions, a new emphasis on fitness in both hardware and software, and built-in resistance to dust and water exposure. Oh, and yes: the much-discussed fingerprint scanner is here as well, though it's probably not what (or where) you ...

When a company churns out its first smart watch after less than a year's development, then follows it up with a sequel less than six months later, there's something funky going on. So what does it mean when a company releases not one, but two sequels to its half-baked initial offering, announcing them alongside a funky fitness bracelet and the headlining Android smartphone for 2014? It says the company is determined to make a meaningful splash in the wearables space before its competitors get the chance, and it's taking a typical Samsung approach to getting there. To be sure, the Gear 2 ...

Announced alongside the Galaxy S 5, Gear 2, and Gear 2 Neo at today's Samsung Unpacked event was the Samsung Gear Fit, a tiny ampule of colorful technology that, if leveraged properly, has the potential to revolutionize Samsung's position in the wearable tech space. But that's an idea exercise for another day. What matters now is how good the little device looks and feels in person - and fortunately, we've got just that sort of info in the video below.
