HTC's Eric Lin gives us a walk-through of some of HTC's latest handsets, which includes the recently unveiled HTC HD Mini, Legend, and Desire. The company had unveiled those handsets at Mobile World Congress, and we're jealous of our European counterparts who will be getting those snazzy handsets. Lin also talked about the design philosophies that have been carried forward by the One & Company acquisition. One of the design element include the "hidden powerful" of the colorful back underneath the battery cover of the HTC HD Mini and the new Sprint HTC EVO 4G. One & Company was also ...

HTC has stated in its press release that the company is working with Microsoft on bringing HTC-made Windows Phone 7 Series smartphones to the market, citing that Microsoft has done a great job with the OS and UI: "The revolutionary new software offers a fresh approach to smartphones by bringing web content and applications together to create a phone experience that is very personal, relevant and connected." However, HTC doesn't stop there. CEO Peter Chou went on to comment that the company will still bring the "HTC experience" to consumers. Whether that experience is in the excellent ...

We're expecting a lot of cool new stuff in the upcoming T-Mobile HTC HD2. Chief among them are the Documents tab and now the new Reader tab, which we show off in this video thanks to a ROM from XDA. The Reader tab integrates with Borders book store (though currently, you're not able to log on) so that you can download eBooks right to your device. The reading experience is actually quite nice. You can adjust text size with multitouch, and changing pages is as easy as swiping left or right. Also new to this ROM is the use of Swype for text entry, which we previously demonstrated.

In this video, we take a look at one of the better mods for the home screen in Sense 2.5. It extends functionality by giving you access to tons of quick links via sliding panels and also by displaying more appointment information. It's currently in beta, so it's hit or miss depending on which build of Sense 2.5 you're running. The creator, Co0kieMonster, will likely come out with separate releases that are compatible with different builds of 2.5. Stay tuned to Co0kieMonster's thread on XDA-developers for a final, more stable version of the mod or grab the first beta release from one of his ...

We're beginning to see the ways that WM 6.5.3 can be customized. Over at XDA, user Dark Ninja has created a nice theme that changes the bottom and top bar to white, plus all in-program menus. It's easy to apply...just run the CAB, reboot your device, then turn on the theme by going to Today screen settings. In the thread there are versions for all screen resolutions. I tried it on an HD2 and it worked great. (via: XDA)

One feature that's always been missing in all versions of TouchFLO 3D and Sense is the ability to delete emails directly from the "Mail" tab. It's been a bit perplexing because this simple option would save users from having to enter and exit the standard Windows Mobile messaging window on many occasions. We all receive spam or messages that don't really need responses from time to time, so it only makes "sense" that this feature should've been implemented from the very beginning. Thankfully, the latest leaked build of Sense 2.5 (2011) addresses this issue by adding it as an option under ...

During the holidays, we saw a Christmas themed animated wallpaper for HTC Sense 2.5. Well, it seems more users have created their own animated wallpapers since then. As with the Christmas wallpaper, these also use one of the default animated wallpapers as a base. There are two main threads over at XDA and both already have a growing collection of designs available. Unforseenenemy has a thread with animated wallpapers using Windows logos, playing cards, Bud Light logos and other images. They will replace the default circles for that particular wallpaper, but can be reverted if you choose to ...

Here's a quick video about what's new in the Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM upgrades for the T-Mobile Dash 3G and Touch Pro2. Of special note is new support for Visual Voicemail on T-Mobile. The Dash 3G doesn't get much new besides an upgraded Internet Explorer, MarketPlace, MyPhone, Facebook, and widget support. The Touch Pro2 gets a new HTC Sense UI with automatic location detection for weather, but not the animated backgrounds from HTC's 6.5 upgrade to the Touch Pro2. Also, I'm happy to report that the Touch Pro2's Voice Command over Bluetooth support has been improved. It now will route Voice ...

If you're running HTC Sense 2.5 and miss having a call history/missed calls link on the Home tab, there's a way to add it – thanks to XDA. The hack also comes with some other surprises. It adds extra quick links (16 instead of 9) and applies the Home tab wallpaper (whichever you select) to all tabs. Please note that the creator mentions that it's for Manila 2.5.1921.XXXX, so it may not work correctly on other builds. The latest official ROM released by HTC for the HD2 has Manila 2.5.1921 on it. I haven't had any compatibility issues using the hack on a Touch Pro2 and the changes ...

In this video we give you a tour of the Leo T-Mobile USA ROM that was recently leaked and now ported to the Touch Pro2 (XDA). As you can see from the video, in most tabs of Sense, the landscape orientation looks quite good. But in others, like Twitter and Footprints, it's not quite complete. If you want a closer look at the cool new Documents tab, check out our demo!

If the cloudy weather animation on HTC Sense 2.5 is becoming a little too familiar for you lately, there's a way to freshen it up a bit by adding a splash of color. Hubie, from XDA-developers, has created a hack that gives the plain white clouds a light blue tint. This instantly gives the animation a new look and can even help make the clouds pop more on certain backgrounds. It's not for everyone, but users who enjoy coordinating their themes with matching colors throughout the interface will probably enjoy this hack. Grab the CAB for WVGA/VGA/QVGA devices from XDA-developers. Light blue ...

Last week, we discovered a very useful tool for switching between HTC Sense/TouchFLO 3D and Mobile Shell 3.5.x with a single tap of a shortcut. This beats the heck out of having to manually disable and enable them when you feel like jumping from one to the other. Well, Darkness231, from PPCGeeks, has decided to improve his script. Now, it brings more choices to the table. The new version calls up a prompt that lets you pick between Sense/TF3D, Mobile Shell 3.5.x, Titanium, PointUI, Androkkid, or the classic Today screen. You will find multiple scripts below in CAB format for easy ...

We now have a better understanding of how the Documents tab works on the leaked T-Mobile USA HD2 ROM, thanks to the video below from HDBlog.it. The function will search your entire device for documents...the video shows Excel, Word, and PDF documents being called up. Then, you can flip through the live previews (nice!) and tap on a document that you want to open. You can also hit the left soft key for "All Documents" or the right soft key for "Search." Also shown in the video are some other improvements in the new ROM, such as an improved music library. (via: wmpu)

TouchFLO 3D/Manila gives you the ability to shut off tabs that you don't use, which can reduce the number of buttons along the bottom (nice to keep things tidy). Also, running fewer tabs will give you back a bit of RAM. That said, we're curious: of the tabs that you can shut on or off, which TF3D tabs do you use the most, and which ones do you disable? My list is below. Use the most: - Mail - Messages - Calendar - Weather - Photos & Video - Twitter - Stocks Use the least (and keep off): - Music (don't use my phone for listening to music) - Footprints (don't travel enough) - Internet (I ...

We recently posted about a Christmas theme for HTC Sense 2.5 which included a custom wallpaper, slider and icons. Now, you can make it a "White Christmas" by adding a wintry animated background to the Home tab in Sense. It appears that the look is achieved by replacing one of the animated wallpapers that comes preloaded on Sense, the one with colorful circles, with one that has snowflakes. It also has some frost graphics in the top corners and Christmas lights on the bottom. The animated wallpaper was created by cmylxgo for NRG's "EnergyROM Leo," but it seems to work just fine with other ...

We continue to watch as XDA extracts and investigates the leaked ROM for the supposed T-Mobile USA HD2. This time, we find that there has been an improvement to the music library tab in HTC Sense. Although the library interface is already fantastic for browsing through music easily by artist/genre/album etc, the menu system often can go quite deep, requiring you to go through many screens to finally end up in the place that you want. As shown above from Manila build 1921, tapping on the name of an artist will bring up a sub-listing of the albums by the artist. This is instead of taking you ...

We haven't seen HTC add a new tab to TouchFLO 3D/Sense since Footprints, but it seems like that's about to change. Out of the leaked HD2 USA ROM for T-Mobile we find a new tab for Documents, as shown above. Why Documents, you ask? It's likely that the Documents tab will pull from the My Documents folder on your device, which some people have synchronized with their PC. Having a dedicated tab for documents could make it super convenient to flip through and select from a handful of important documents. The tab should have support for PDF and Microsoft Office file formats, meaning you can get ...

Two of the most popular Windows Mobile UIs to date are HTC Sense/TouchFLO 3D and SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.x. If you have access to both, sometimes it can be difficult to decide which interface to use on a daily basis. Some users even switch back and forth between them multiple times each week. The steps to take to disable one shell in favor of the other can become quite tedious, especially if you do it often. There's a new tool, created by Darkness231 from PPCGeeks, which automates the process by switching from one interface to the other via a single tap of a shortcut. This means you can ...

The default alarm utility for Windows Mobile doesn't offer too many features. Although it can get the job done, many users turn to third party alarm applications. Three popular choices for alarm replacements are G-Alarm, SPB Time and Klaxon. These apps have a ton of features and even tailor to deep sleepers with some creative tricks. If you find yourself unhappy with the simplicity of the default alarm, I highly recommend checking out either of the aforementioned apps. The biggest issue, at least for me, is that the third party apps don't play nice with HTC Sense. As you know, the home tab ...

Maxycy is well known on XDA-developers for his HTC Sense tweaks. He recently updated his most popular project, Max Manila, to version 2.6. Max Manila 2.6 beta is an all-in-one tweak that lets users easily change many aspects of HTC Sense, such as the layout and functionality. Users of Max Manila are able to quickly cycle through different clock types with a single screen tap, adjust the amount of quick link slots on the home tab, retract the slider, put the interface into full screen, and much more. As you can see in the images, a new row of icons are placed on the home tab. These are for ...

Rotastrain, over at XDA-developers, has released another fantastic hack for HTC Sense, formerly labeled TouchFLO 3D 2.5. This time, he's somehow managed to add landscape support for the popular UI. Users of Sense have been waiting a long time for landscape to make it into the mix; some even avoid using 2.5 due to lack of landscape support. Previously, sliding out the hardware keyboard on the Touch Pro2 would render the interface useless. This is no longer the case as the landscape hack has been released for the Touch Pro2. While it's not perfect, it is usable. You will find occasional ...

The latest Engadget Show featured Drew Bamford, HTC's director of user experiences. He had a big part in the incubation of TouchFLO 3D (first shown on the HTC Touch Diamond), and now is doing a lot with HTC Sense, found on the HD2 and HTC's latest Android devices. What's interesting is that from the video we get a peep at some sketches from 2006 when Bamford was conceptualizing the new interface. We can dissect these drawings to consider what TouchFLO 3D may have been. Here we see a framework for TouchFLO 3D with a listing of possible tabs to be used in the interface. Tabs that didn't make ...

TouchFLO 3D 2.1 and Sense 2.5 have a lot of eye candy to go along with the tremendous functionality found within both versions of HTC's UI. The combination of beauty and execution has undoubtedly been successful. Still, at one point or another, many users have realized that a portion of the gloss is unnecessary. An example of this is evident in the redundant clock flipping animation that occurs when returning to your home screen. Every time you unlock your device, return from the Start menu or do anything that brings you back to your main screen, your clock will cycle through an hour and ...

Even if HTC Sense (ex TouchFLO 3D) coming with the HD2 has an option of automatically downloading album arts via Gracenote, there is a way of getting your own album arts displayed in Sense. All you have to do is get the image you wish to use (I suggest 260x260 pixels) and save it to your PC. Here comes the tricky part, you have to rename the image to the following format: ~hTC_Album Name.vin or ~hTC_Album Name.jpg. Please note that the change refers also to the file extension, it will become a vin file. You need to copy this file to the folder of you album, where the sound files reside. ...
