Yesterday we saw the LG G2 Mini get confirmed, but the announcement was a little odd. We didn't see a formal press release from LG, and though it was clear we were dealing with official information, there were a few holes in the specifics. For instance, while we learned that the phone wasn't going to get the Snapdragon 800 that had been rumored, we didn't learn specifically which SoC would power the handset – all we knew was that it was a 1.2GHz quad-core chip. CES 2014 is just around the bend. Anton D. Nagy, Michael Fisher and yours truly will be in attendance, and coverage will begin shortly after we land in Las Vegas Sunday afternoon. This particular show has been growing in size and attendance almost every year since its induction in 1967. But for us mobile guys, the show has become far more sparse with juicy details and big product announcements. We already don't find ourselves talking about the NVIDIA Tegra 4 too much, as the SoC has failed to take off in any meaningful way with this year's crop of smartphones. But for as little attention as the Tegra 4 has seen, the Tegra 4i has found itself getting even the shorter end of that stick; we haven't mentioned the chip since March, when rumors suggested in might show up in the hardware that ultimately arrived as the Moto X. On its latest earnings call this week, NVIDIA talked a little about its plans to bring the 4i to prominence, and finally get it into some hardware early next year. ...
