T-Mobile is finally getting the iPhone, but the details of hardware compatibility have been just the slightest bit confusing. Existing iPhone 5 handsets, for instance, won't ever support T-Mobile's 1700MHz 3G band, but as we've seen, can be modified to function on T-Mobile LTE. While that trick required a jailbroken phone, it looks like official support is just a matter of days away, as revealed through a new leak. Apparently, this Friday, April 5, a small iOS update will head out to iPhone users on T-Mobile. It will deliver features like visual voicemail support, which really emphasize ...

Very sad news for all of you who purchased the budget-minded Nokia Lumia 810 with the promise that T-Mobile would unlock the Band 4 LTE that's hidden inside the chassis. As it turns out, even though the company made some sort of promise that all the devices with the hardware capabilities would get updated in order to use their new 4G LTE network, well, it seems that either T-Mobile is seeing this as another business opportunity to sell phones, or Nokia is. In a very short statement today, T-Mobile has made their stand official, and it doesn't seem they'll go back on it: Statement from ...

Has T-Mobile just become the hot new retail destination for unlocked smartphones? After all, it's getting phones like the iPhone 5, Galaxy S 4, and BlackBerry Z10, and it's looking like this whole no-subsidies installment plan system it's dreamed up could offer some big discounts over direct off-contract sales. Why, just look at how its pricing for various storage options for the iPhone 5 works out, where even after all those monthly payments are made, the phone costs up to $70 less than Apple's prices. Before you start getting ahead of yourself, T-Mobile has confirmed that it won't just ...

It's been just over a month since the Nokia Lumia 520 and 720 went official at the MWC in Barcelona, where we had the opportunity to go hands-on with the phones. While neither is particularly high-end, at least they add a little more variety to Nokia's Windows Phone 8 lineup while providing some new options for budget-conscious users. A variant of the 520, the Lumia 521, has been getting ready to launch on T-Mobile in the US. It recently got its FCC certification, and now we get to check out the first full-sized press render of the handset. As shouldn't be surprising for a T-Mobile model, ...

Since T-Mobile's announcement the other day that it's finally bringing the iPhone on board, we've learned a bit about just how this hardware will work. While it's largely the GSM iPhone 5 already available on AT&T, the phone's radio compatibility is being tweaked to function not only on T-Mobile LTE, but also on its 3G bands. From what we heard, phones with these capabilities will only be available as newly-purchased T-Mobile models, and existing AT&T-compatible GSM models can't be software upgraded to perform the same. Well, it turns out that's not entirely true, as word of a ...

We love us some new technology, and we certainly give it its fair shake on today's episode of the Pocketnow Weekly. But every so often, you need to give a little lip-service to the tech of days gone by. The platforms and devices of yesteryear. That's right: I'm talking about dead technology. It makes sense, then, that a man going by the twitter handle DeadTechnology is here to help us dust off those fond memories. In his inaugural visit to the Pocketnow Weekly, our own Adam Doud pulls back the veil of public apathy secrecy surrounding the phenomenon of the "webOS meetup," a regular ...

We weren't sure it was going to happen, but sure enough, at yesterday's UNcarrier event, T-Mobile announced the start of iPhone sales. The carrier will start selling them on April 12, and unlike the currently available GSM models, this one will offer 3G support on T-Mobile's AWS band, in addition to T-Mobile LTE (where available). Yesterday, we got details on the 16GB version of the iPhone 5, but what about if you need a little more storage? Today, we can flesh things out with pricing and availability info for the 32GB and 64GB versions. The 16GB iPhone 5 is going to run you about $100 ...

T-Mobile officially broke in its new service plans at its "UNcarrier" press event today, doing away with subsidies and endeavoring to offer simpler, more attractive choices to subscribers. The carrier started things off by announcing the launch of its new LTE network, which today goes live in Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Baltimore, Washington DC, San Jose, and Phoenix. New York City will join that list by early summer. As for these new service plans, even the carrier's postpaid plans will be switching to a no-annual-contract model. New "Simple Choice" plans options include 500MB, 2GB, ...

Read OnEarlier this week we got news of T-Mobile finally getting ready to flip the switch and join the LTE party. By the end of the month, it should be offering LTE service... somewhere, but where? Well, we knew it had been testing LTE in Kansas City and Las Vegas, so one of those two are likely candidates for where it could first go public, but now some new info has come in to help reveal the full picture of T-Mobile's roll-out of LTE. OpenSignal has been watching the airwaves, and caught wind of T-Mobile LTE under testing in a number of additional markets, including Seattle, Denver, New ...

The BlackBerry Z10 is definitely on the wish list of many all around. It's proven to be a good device in our review, and even though its ecosystem hasn't reached the level of its competitors, it's only a matter of time before they figure it out. We've heard when both AT&T and Verizon are getting the device, and now it's time for T-Mobile. Obviously we don't have a press release to validate this claim, but according to T-Mobile's Help Twitter account, it'll happen on Tuesday March 26th, which is less than a week from now. Now to make these news even better, remember that the Z10 is ...

It's been talking about it for years, we've already heard rumors of testing underway, and as the first quarter of 2013 starts to come to a close, we're getting word that T-Mobile is finally about to join the rest of the major US networks with the start of LTE service. We'd been looking forward to the carrier launching LTE in 2013, and the only question was one of when. T-Mobile has LTE equipment installed in both Kansas City and Las Vegas, and before March is out, at least one, if not both of them should be bringing LTE service to subscribers. What about LTE-capable hardware? We've known ...

BlackBerry 10 is just about to come to the US, with sales of the Z10 expected to kick off this month. When will you be able to get your hands on the phone? We've heard a couple dates for AT&T, looking at both March 15 and March 22, and through we saw March 27 on a leaked T-Mobile roadmap, we've learned that the carrier was interested in getting it out even sooner. While it's still not enough to give us the full picture, T-Mobile has since announced the start of Z10 sales, but with one important hitch. T-Mobile will start selling the Z10 next week, on March 11, to business customers. ...

Sony's Xperia Z and its debut at CES made it one of the earlier 1080p Androids to go official, though stiff competition is right around the corner from models like the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S IV. Still, Sony's off to a head start, and is trying to turn that advantage into sales, with the help of attention-getting promotions like the one we just learned about in the Czech Republic. One of the Xperia Z's big selling points, and also what helps distinguish it from the Xperia ZL, is the Z's water resistance. There are a lot of ways you could demonstrate that capability, but Sony and ...
