Earlier this month, we finally started to see all the rumors surrounding Motorola's X phone come together to take physical form, upon the discovery of imagery of an "XFON" apparently getting ready for AT&T. Then we saw what appeared to be the same handset hit the FCC as Motorola model XT1058, again showing support for AT&T's network. Since then, there have been signs that the XFON might also be in the works for other carriers, like a CDMA version arriving as model XT1060. Today, we've got yet another XFON contender to look at, with a Motorola model XT1056 for Sprint making its own ...

The Sprint version of the HTC One is actually the one that we have reviewed. Ever since, some carrier versions as well as the global variant have received a refresh improving several aspects of the device, including its performance and camera. HTC One users on Sprint should be getting a small over-the-air update, bumping the version number all the way to 1.29.651.10. According to the changelog, the refresh should bring "Improved Back and Home key sensitivity", alongside "BlinkFeed improvements" as well as a new version of the Sprint Zone app. You can check for the update's availability ...

I remember a point in time when there were only two ways I communicated: face to face and though voice calls. Back then, voice calls, even to other wireless subscribers using the same provider, counted towards your monthly allotment. Coming from a small town where literally everyone is friendly, locking the doors to your house isn't necessary and everyone within a few miles are close family friends, my family usually opted to just save minutes and drop by someone's house if we had a question or wanted to socialize. Then I got my own cell phone with SMS. And from that moment, I've disliked ...

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800: if mention of that chip doesn't send a little shiver down your spine, you just haven't been playing close enough attention to this year's hot new SoC launches. Announced back at the start of the year alongside models like the Snapdragon 600, the 800 is set to be Qualcomm's 2013 heavyweight. We've heard that the chip is moving out of sampling and into mass production sometime later this month, so we could be seeing the first devices powered by the 800 show up as soon as late summer. All that remains to be seen is who will be first to really harness that 800 power. ...

Last week we learned that, in spite of Samsung creating multiple hardware versions of the Galaxy S 4 in an effort to avoid Exynos 5 Octa shortages affecting stocks, US carriers were still feeling the effects of a GS4 shortage, and a number of them were scrambling to adjust launch plans. T-Mobile, for one, had to push back the start of online sales, while we heard that Sprint was going to have to kick things off online and phone-only, with not enough units available to also get them in Sprint stores. Today, we get an update on both those situations. For T-Mobile, there's not much news. ...

A lot of factors play in a decision that ends in you agreeing to keep a service in good standing for upwards of two years. Each and every time I go to upgrade one of my lines, it gives me pause. There's just something daunting about signing a two-year agreement, something that makes you think, "My contract will end soon. Is it time to shop around again?" My first cell phone was a Motorola T720c (dumb phone) through Alltel. It was a hand-me-down that my mother had used for about a year. I was 14 and I was in a band, playing shows almost every weekend and spending a lot of time away from ...

Sprint is finally coming around to Windows Phone 8, and will belatedly embrace the platform as it adds two WP8 models to its lineup this summer. Rumors have suggested that these two initial handsets will be Samsung's ATIV S, which got sort of a bum rap when it first launched in spite of being a pretty attractive higher-end WP8 model, along with the HTC model we've been referring to as codename Tiara. As we wait to get confirmation on the carrier's plans, some evidence of a new HTC Windows Phone handset for Sprint has begun to surface, possibly backing up this Tiara rumor. One app's server ...

The time has finally come for the Samsung Galaxy S 4 to start descending upon US shores, and from the announcements we heard from carriers last week, everything seemed to be all ready to go. We first started getting hints that carriers were feeling some uncertainty as to just when they'd be able to get the GS4 into customer hands late last week, after seeing AT&T start to play with the date for its own GS4 pre-order availability. While it was ultimately able to confirm that it was actually getting its GS4s out a little early, the situation isn't quite as good elsewhere, and this ...

There are a lot of things the fourth smartphone in Samsung's halo Galaxy S series is not. It's not a reinvention, or a revolution. If it were a movie, the Galaxy S 4 wouldn't be the blockbuster revival of a flagging film franchise: the reboot that kicks a sagging series back into high gear. That's because the Galaxy S line has never been a disappointing one. For years, Samsung's flagship smartphone series has dominated the Android landscape, making the word "Galaxy" synonymous with Google's platform in much of the public vernacular. Last year's Galaxy S III accelerated that trend, ...

It's been about a month now since Samsung's big New York Galaxy S 4 launch event, which means that it's finally time for details on the phone's US retail availability to start arriving. We just saw AT&T get started with pre-orders, and today Samsung follows up with its own announcement of the GS4's launch on carriers in the States, joined by a few of those companies chiming-in with their own details on just when their customers will be able to get their hands on the Android flagship. Samsung itself doesn't really have anything new to say in today's announcement. It goes over the ...
