Users of the Verizon LG Spectrum were looking forward to receiving the VS920ZV5 update even though it’s not the official Ice Cream Sandwich update that should be rolled-out sometime in the future, according to the carrier’s official upgrade list.
Documents for a new update which should arrive over-the-air have been published and this time it’s update VS920V6. Needless to say that it is still not Android 4.0, though the changes appear to be rather important. Android will be version 2.3.6 and your Google applications (Play, YouTube, Gmail, and Talk) will be [...]
Verizon is preparing to send out an over-the-air update for the LG Spectrum but, despite the fact that the Spectrum is on the list of devices to officially get an update to Ice Cream Sandwich soon, it’s not the Android 4.0 refresh.
Instead, expect fixes, improvements and updated applications. Check out the full changelog below:
Device Features - EAS password follows security policy, requiring an 8-digit password minimum. - Application launch will not cause force close when the device is scanning for available Wi-Fi networks. - Improved outline for multiple [...]
So far, news about which Android handsets will be making the journey to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and which will be left behind to stagnate has largely been coming from the manufacturers themselves. Some, like Motorola, have detailed support pages up outlining which models should be seeing updates, and when. Other are content to release snippets of their progress on the likes of Twitter and Facebook. Today, though, that news is coming from a carrier, with Verizon publishing a list of devices on its network that are slated to receive Ice Cream Sandwich.
Verizon calls this a [...]
Code named the Revolution 2, the LG Spectrum is the most recent Verizon LTE device on the market. After spending a couple of minutes with it at CES, a lot of expectations were set on the table with Verizon’s new list of LTE devices, and the Spectrum topped the list because of the amount of quality specs involved. The expectations grew even more after we noticed that Verizon partnered with LucasFilm in the marketing of the Spectrum, as Verizon’s website has a very prominent comparison between this phone and R2-D2. Is it the destiny of the LG Spectrum to take the market by [...]
In this video, we are taking a closer look at the hardware on the LG Spectrum from Verizon.
Perhaps with hardware, the light side can prevail. Certainly the specs seem to show a worthy set of capabilities. But even the blazing LTE speeds can’t seem to do enough for this phone. The IPS screen, while quite brilliant and easy on the eyes, reveals a darker heart when you start looking closely at images. The still camera does an okay job (no stabilization or flash-assisted focus), but the video, even though it’s 1080p is rather poor in [...]
In this video, we are taking a closer look at the software on the LG Spectrum from Verizon.
One would like to believe that this dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon smartphone could conquer the Empire. Sadly to do so you’d need the powerful Jedi Knight which the LG Spectrum was built to be, but fails to accomplish at times. While it’s 4.5″ screen is bright and brilliant, the underlying Android version has been corrupted by LG’s Touchwiz-like skin, and the glossy exterior is beginning to show its dark side.
There is a noticable amount of bloat on the device, [...]
LG has published the official numbers referring to the last quarter of 2011 and, after a period of seven consecutive quarters, the company is finally seeing profit being generated out of the phone division.
While there are no official numbers related to units shipped (probably part of a follow-up earnings call), the South Korean manufacturer had a 12 billion won ($10.7 million) profit generated by the mobile division for Q4 2011.
LG is mainly focusing on smartphones that are running Google’s Android mobile platform (for what it’s worth they do have a couple [...]
In this video, we are unboxing the the newest 4G LTE devices from Verizon: the LG Spectrum.
Touting a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor the LG Spectrum is certainly on par, processor-wise compared to the rest of the devices currently on the market. Add in LTE plus a brilliant 4.5″ IPS HD display, and the device starts to look very intriguing. Sadly, the Spectrum is only running a fairly skinned version of Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread), which seems to cause some lag in the UI. We shall see if the 4G hunt for signal causes the 1830mAh battery to give up faster than if [...]
If you’ve managed to pick up the LG Spectrum from Verizon, which has been on sale for less than ten days online with the carrier, you probably noticed that there’s an update waiting to be installed.
It weighs around 10MB and will bump your software version to VS920ZV4. Doesn’t bring anything interesting if you’re not into Netflix but if you are, this is a must. The only thing listed under features and bugfixes for this update is “Netflix playback issue corrected”.
If you’re yet to pick up a Spectrum, it goes for $199.99 on a [...]
We’ve heard about a January 19 availability date of the LG Spectrum, the so-called Revolution 2, and we managed to get our hands on the phone with the occasion of our CES 2012 coverage.
If you head over to Verizon’s webpage — or follow the source link below — you’ll see that the LG Spectrum is now available for purchase. It goes for $199.99 on a two-year contract or, if you decide to go with only the phone, it will set you back $599.99. The phone features a 4.5-inch 720p display and a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 processor with 1GB of [...]
Near the end of December, we saw some leaked screenshots out of Verizon which appeared to indicate that the HTC Fireball and LG Spectrum would feature radios capable of global roaming on GSM-based networks, an ability we’d yet to see from LTE-enabled handsets on the carrier. All we saw were some database entries, though, and it seemed too early to say if we’d really see those phones arrive with global roaming enabled. Now a representative from Verizon has confirmed the carrier’s plans, noting that supported hardware will see the feature enabled in the coming [...]
At CES 2012, Verizon announced two new LTE smartphones: the LG Spectrum and the Motorola Droid 4. The Spectrum, in particular, has a 4.5″ 720p HD display and a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 CPU with 1GB of RAM. In many ways, it’s essentially the same phone as the LG Nitro HD on AT&T. It’s thin and light with a fingerprint-prone smooth backing. While the Spectrum comes with Android 2.3, expect an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich in Q2. The Spectrum will be available on January 19th for $199.
The Droid 4 is the one to get if you want a hardware [...]
LG’s Spectrum is about to become the company’s flagship phone on Verizon’s LTE network. We got a really good look at the phone last week, with its 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 4.5-inch 720p display, and heard a rumor that the phone would become available on January 19. At a press event this morning, LG and Verizon finally announced the Spectrum, confirming the January 19 launch date and revealing the phone’s price tag.
Considering the high-end specs, the LG Spectrum will be quite affordable on Verizon. We were expecting to learn of a launch price in the [...]
The LG Spectrum, Verizon’s “Revolution 2”, popped up in initial renders from the beginning of December, followed shortly after by press shots and full specifications.
According to the latest reports, the phone will see a January 19 launch. The price is still unknown but you can expect it to be in the range of $250-$300. Just to recap the specs, it will sport a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of storage plus 16GB microSD, 4.5-inch HD (1280×720) IPS LCD, eight-megapixel 1080p main camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing shooter. [...]
When we first started seeing signs of Motorola’s Droid 4 show up over the past few months, the timing seemed quite odd, considering that the Droid 3 had only landed on Verizon back in July. While the Droid 4’s launch is apparently stalled for the moment, the latest rumors suggest it will arrive in about a month. If a new leak that surfaced this weekend is any indication, the Droid 3 could already be on its way out by then, with a Verizon document showing the smartphone taking on end-of-life status this month.
The Droid 3 isn’t the only Verizon Android to get [...]
Over the past week or two, we’ve caught wind of a couple new Androids destined for Verizon Wireless and its 4G LTE network. All we know of the HTC Fireball is that it appears in a leaked Verizon screenshot and will be an LTE Android. There’s significantly more available on the LG Spectrum, which has not only shown up in pics a couple times, but we also uncovered some tech specs for the model. One thing those specs we had didn’t touch upon was the possibility for a global GSM radio to find its way into the CDMA/LTE handset. Now a new leak suggests that both the [...]
It was only a few days ago that we saw the first images of the LG Spectrum, spiritual successor to the LG Revolution — among the premiere batch of Verizon’s 4G LTE handsets — but those tiny photos really didn’t do the phone justice. Luckily we’ve gotten a set of higher quality shots, along with a full rundown of the specs:
– Dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S3 – Android Gingerbread 2.3 – 10.6 millimeters thick – 4.5-inch, 1280×720 IPS LCD – 1GB RAM, 4GB storage plus 16GB microSD – Eight-megapixel, 1080p rear [...]
Those initial rumors have panned out regarding the so-called “Revolution 2” on Verizon: as first reported by Droid-Life, it is indeed the LG Spectrum, which showed up in a Verizon system last month, that will assume the identity of well-known model number VS920. With a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 720p HD resolution, and HD-capable eight-megapixel camera, the LTE-equipped Spectrum should represent yet another very attractive option in VZW’s winter lineup; between this, the RAZR, Rezound, and Galaxy Nexus — not to mention the DROID4 — there’s not even [...]
