Perhaps we should start off by explaining what a smart watch is. Like a regular watch -- or chronograph if you'd prefer -- a smart watch tells time, but it does so much more. A regular watch (which we'll just call a "watch") might also include the date, the day of the week, and if you had a super-fancy one, even the barometric pressure and altitude. The nice thing about a watch is its simplicity. You glance at it and get all the information you need. As we started waltzing toward the chasm of information overload, brought on by the now ubiquitous smartphone, the traditional watch just is...

Watch this week's Android Revolution as we go through what's hot and what's not in the world of Google's Android project. In today's show we begin by talking about our recent leak of the HTC Edge, which is apparently the manufacturer's first Quad-core smartphone. We also continue with more leaks regarding a full list of HTC devices for the future, an LG device sporting Ice Cream Sandwich and lots of other leaks. We later talk about the recent smartphone releases, which oddly include a pink variant of the Samsun Galaxy S II. We go through our coverage of the Samsung Galaxy Note and Motorola Dro...

This fall, we saw AT&T's LTE network start with a bang, offering subscribers not one, but two LTE-equipped Androids to choose from in early November. Since then, we've heard a lot about additional smartphones planned for the growing 4G network. Today, AT&T really let the floodgates open, revealing, among other new products, half-a-dozen LTE-enabled Androids. Some of these Androids on their way to AT&T are models we've had our eye on for some time. Take, for instance, the over-sized Samsung Galaxy Note, which we've spotted already with its AT&T badging and had been expecting the carrier to r...

The Sony Xperia S is bound to be a flagship phone in 2012: it features a slender, handsome design, it packs a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, plus it also has Sony's first 720p Reality Display for a phone. The Xperia S will ship with Gingerbread, but will get an ICS upgrade in early Q2. Our friends at Clove now have information relating to the price and ship date of the Xperia S. According to them, it will be available around March 5, and will be priced at £389.99 or around $600. The unlocked GSM phone will be Europe-only, meaning it won't have the proper bands to do ...

We meet the Sony Xperia Ion, a device which is "first" from a couple of perspectives: it's the first Sony device to come sans the "Ericsson" in its branding, though the device we got our hands on still uses the old Sony Ericsson logo, unlike the official AT&T phone render. It is also the first device from the manufacturer to include a 4G LTE radio. The Sony Xperia Ion packs a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 4.6-inch 720p display, and a twelve-megapixel camera. While you're waiting for the second quarter of the year, when it hits AT&T's shelves, take a look at our hands-on below. We like the scr...

"Find out what's new and what's next! Join us at our Press Conference at Mobile World Congress for the latest news on our Xperia smartphone portfolio and strategy". That's the wording on the invitations Sony is already sending out, preparing for MWC. While at CES, Sony introduced the 4G LTE Xperia Ion on AT&T, the Xperia S, as well as the Xperia NX and Xperia acro HD for Japan. Make sure Sony will not come empty-handed to MWC, where last year they introduced the Xperia Play, Neo and Pro devices, aside from the European intro of the Arc. We've seen the MT27i smartphone recently tipped as ...

According to recent rumors, Sony Ericsson will unveil two Android-powered smartphones at the upcoming CES. According to reports, they will be the Xperia S and the Xperia Ion, wearing a "Sony"-only branding (though it is yet unknown whether it will be accompanied by the "Sony Ericsson" branding too, or not). The Xperia S is a new name but it appears to relate to the LT26i "Nozomi" phone which we've recently saw previewed (though with a full "Sony Ericsson" branding at the top). You should expect specs like 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 12-megapixel camera, and a 720p. As far as ...

At the beginning of December, following up on the acquisition of Ericsson's stake from the joint venture by Sony, we've been told that Sony will be phasing out the Sony Ericsson brand by mid-2012. We're now told that Sony Ericsson will be rebranded as Sony Mobile Communications and all the phones which will be announced and released from this point on will be only wearing the "Sony" branding. The old Sony Ericsson logo is also dumped and, to testify to all the above, the Sony Xperia Ion on AT&T as well as the Sony Xperia S are only labeled as Sony. Source: MobileSyrup

Aside from the Sony Xperia Ion on AT&T and the Sony Xperia S, Sony also announced the Xperia NX and Xperia acro HD at CES. Though we've heard that all mobile devices announced will wear the Sony-only branding, the two new devices destined for Japan are still branded Sony Ericsson. The Xperia NX is the Japanese variant of the Xperia S, with the 4.3 inch LCD "Reality Display", Qualcomm MSM8260 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and twelve-megapixel camera. The Xperia acro HD will also share similar specs, like the 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch HD display and a twelve-megapixel cam...

Sony has not been making it easy to follow the rumors leading up to the CES. While it dropped a couple clues last week, at least one was a big red herring. Despite any confusion, the details of the company's upcoming phones are starting to emerge, with some leaks featuring the Xperia S as the latest. This is the phone we've been following as the Sony Ericsson LT26i, also known as the Nozomi. Like the Xperia Ion we got a look at during AT&T's event, the Xperia S will be one of the first generation of models to drop the Ericsson name, reflecting the manufacturer's reorganization. Leaked Xp...

Will Sony (once dropping the Ericsson bit becomes final) be adding a model to its Xperia line of Androids called the Ion? That's the latest theory going around, thanks to the discovery of the product name in a trademark filing with the USPTO. Just what might this hardware end up being? For the moment, at least until we learn something else that helps to narrow-down the field any, the Xperia Ion is a potential name for any of the Sony Androids we've learned of being in development. We recently saw some pictures snapped by the thirteen-megapixel LT28at, and its Bluetooth SIG paperwork claimed...

The image above is taken from the Antutu website that features benchmark results and in our case of a specific Sony (Ericsson) LT28at. We've already seen the Sony (Ericsson) LT26i in pictures, leaks and rumors, also referred to as the Nozomi; the LT28at, according to its codename, should be headed towards AT&T. Why the analogy between the LT28at and the LT26i? As you can see, the CPU listed above for the LT28at is clocking at 1.5GHz, which is exactly the frequency reported for the LT26i Nozomi, and a dual-core at that. However, as Xperia Blog suggests, the proper cousin for the LT28at shoul...

NenaMark's aggregated results page features a certain Ayame smartphone. Checking out the phone-specific page it turns out that the phone is made by Sony Ericsson, the model is called "Ayame" and it sports a 1.4GHz GHZ Snapdragon single-core CPU, Qualcomm Adreno 205 GPU and runs Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. It has an 854x480 resolution screen and scored almost 47 points in NenaMark. On another note, recent rumors talk about a certain Sony Ericsson "Nozomi", a phone which will allegedly hit the Japanese market in the last quarter of the year. The Nozomi too will sport a 1.4GHz single-core Snapd...

Whether you call it Nozomi or Xperia Arc HD, the Sony Ericsson LT26i is now stranger. We've seen the phone surface in real life shots in the past and we have a general idea about what to expect from the phone specs-wise. The image above appears to be a press render of the device. It is yet unknown whether it is an official one or fan-made but it looks pretty good (and really in sync with what we've seen so far). Though believed to run Ice Cream Sandwich, you can still see the three Android buttons at the bottom of the phone, but then again Ice Cream Sandwich plays nice with buttons too. ...

The Nozomi from Sony Ericsson, also referred to as the LT26i, manages to generate a lot of buzz lately; we've recently seen some renders of the phone and now it's time for some more real-life sightings as the upcoming device smiles for the camera. First we have a picture from Hong Kong (above) leaked on a forum, with no other details made public, but confirming the dual-core processor and 720p display. Then comes the second image (below) which is reportedly one of the Nozomi; the phone is rumored to feature a 4.3-inch HD display with 720 x 1280 resolution, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memor...
