How long have we been waiting for Android Wear watches to start sounding off? Models like last year's Huawei Watch were clearly packing integrated speakers, and it looked like it was just a matter of time before we'd see the software fall into place that would finally take advantage of them. But despite some indications that such updates were on the way, official speaker support has so far been elusive. Well, today's the day we've been looking forward to, as Google announces new hands-free features for Android Wear, including speaker support. Right now, the only two Android Wear models ...

Wearables need to put up with a ton of abuse, and manufacturers go to some lengths to ensure that their products are ready to withstand the rigors of everyday use. For Apple, that meant giving its Apple Watch a tough scratch-resistant screen, either in the form of “Ion-X” glass on its more affordable Sport model, or a synthetic sapphire crystal on more premium editions. Even with that protection, though, accidents will happen – so whose fault is the damage, then? One Apple Watch owner in Wales didn't think that he should be liable for a crack that developed on the screen of his Apple ...

No matter which of the major smartphone platforms you call your favorite, you've got plenty of reasons to be excited these next few months. Android users are looking forward to some major flagship launches, and MWC will bring more than enough new hardware to usher them into spring. Windows aficionados have the looming arrival of Windows 10 Mobile updates for existing hardware to cheer about. And in the Apple camp, we've been hearing a lot about a rumored March event that could bring us not just the four-inch iPhone 5se, but also new Apple Watch hardware (even if it's just bands) and maybe ...

The smartwatch that doesn't exist, but will not die. After a lot of curiosity regarding the Taiwanese OEM's tablet habits, we've been chasing a potential HTC smartwatch for the past couple of years. For a company that typically manufactures quality hardware and software, mobile tech buffs were questioning why we haven't seen HTC in this vertical. Turns out those who were still waiting after we've given up all hope on even a fitness-focused smartwatch can maybe look forward to the month of April if leaker Evan Blass is to be believed. .@AnthonydFlemons Nope, but the watch should be out ...

Samsung's next big smartphones are nearly here, as we look forward to seeing the Galaxy S7 family make its debut in just a few more weeks. When those phones finally arrive, we're sure to see all sorts of new efforts by retailers and carriers alike to move existing Galaxy-series stock, whether in the form of discounts or special bundle offers. Today we're checking out an early instance of one of the latter, as AT&T encourages shoppers to pick up a new Galaxy smartphone with the promise of a free Gear S2 smartwatch. For a limited time, customers buying a new Samsung Galaxy phone on ...

You might not be swimming in enough money to afford a $10,000 smartwatch. Heck, you might not be rich enough to toss in $1,800 for a watch. But if you still want some special tech to strut on your wrist for $1,100, well, you don't have to travel far to get it. In the case of the Apple Watch Hermès up until this week, you did have to travel to a select few Apple and Hermès outlets to even check out the extravagant takes on the device, much less take it to checkout. On Friday, Apple's and Hermès's online stores will have the watches available for purchase. Prices remain unchanged ...

When Apple first got sales started of the first-gen Apple Watch last spring, how many of you said, “that's cool, Apple, and I like that you're finally getting into this smartwatch thing, but I'ma sit this round out, let you work out the kinks, and drop my cash on your second-gen model when that one comes out?” We don't blame you, especially considering how much Apple was asking users to pay for its wearable, but even with no new hardware out yet, we've already seen some important improvements come to the Apple Watch in the form of watchOS updates – most recently in the form of ...

While Martian's offerings in the smartwatch world do look a tad alien to what we consider the norm, they have their own ways of doing what many consider to be the job of a smartwatch — deliver notifications to you and help you spend less time with your phone. The Martian Notifier was close to being our favorite Pebble/Apple Watch/Android Wear alternative just short of the Runcible — but that thing hasn't even come out yet. And the company's now expanding upon its concept of merging a traditional watchface with a single-line display. This year at CES, the company's bifurcating its ...

Cellular networks have kept up with some of the smartwatch releases out there, especially the cell-connected variants. It went for the Gear S, the Gear S2 and what was to be the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE ... "was to be" was all it was, though. So, what does Verizon think it's doing selling Bluetooth-only smartwatches? Maybe its product philosophy now includes getting its subscribers fit without XLTE. Verizon announced that it'll be helping to "make those New Year's resolutions a reality" by adding two new fitness products to its inventory. The Moto 360 Sport is a little smartwatch ...

The Apple Watch is doing pretty okay as far as being a smartwatch goes. It has the name recognition and the price of an Apple product, though. So when it came to consumers compromising on value and prestige, many chose to get the Apple Watch Sport (the least expensive of the cases out there) with the Milanese Loop band (one of the more expensive ones). It's that kind of combination that catches fire with the public and as such, you'd expect more of the same, only better, right? Well, Apple gave us a little teaser of that same-but-better 42mm Milanese Band — this time in Space Black. As ...

Update: We have learned that the "Jewel" model case size is 44mm, to fit the cubic zirconia crystals onto the case. For people who deign to accessorize, you're probably male and don't care too much about details. Hey, some of us at Pocketnow are guilty, too. But for jet-setting, tech-savvy women who want to join in on this smartwatch revolution, your attention may come to bangles, the Apple Watch (because Apple), or the Gear S2. If you've been looking for some Android Wear watch options specifically, well, they've been hard to come by. That is, until the Huawei Watch for Women showed up at ...

A new year means an opportunity for a new start, and what better way to prepare yourself for what lies ahead than a fresh makeover? Maybe for you that means new clothes, or losing that holiday-season weight, but for Huawei it means bringing some new looks to last year's hardware, and it's doing just that with both the Nexus 6P and its Huawei Watch wearable. A couple weeks back we mentioned some rumors that the gold Nexus 6P, heretofore only available as an incredibly limited edition in Japan, could soon spread to other markets - and in particular, the US. Originally announced alongside its ...

Audio output on smartwatches is a pretty contentious point. Some users are more than happy with the level of notifications they enjoy now, and aren't particularly looking forward to a future where every app on your watch is constantly beeping at you. Others welcome the possibilities audio output affords, and manufacturers sure seem to be on their side. Earlier this year, we saw Android Wear manufacturers start building speakers into their wearables, even if support wasn't yet present on the software side. We've already seen progress in that direction on the platform level, and now the ...

When you're just four days out from the new year, you know it's time to whip your head over your shoulder and give a longing look at what you've been through before you close the door. We do it all the time since we're nostalgia freaks, but especially this week. We have today our top three wearable picks of 2015. While all of them are smartwatches (as opposed to, say, VR wear or fitness bracelets), the ones we chose are quite disparate in the look-and-feel department as well as software. And it's not that we're recommending these devices for you to buy right the heck now: it's just these ...

Whether you're running Android Wear or watchOS, connect over Bluetooth or 3G, or paid $150 or $1500, pretty much all smartwatches share one thing in common: we'd love their batteries to last longer. Manufacturers do the best they can with a combination of space constraints and performance demands, and while some really succeed in making charge-ups as convenient as they can be, every time we strap a smartwatch on we know that we've only got a day – or maybe a few – before we're plugging it back in to recharge. With the Gear S2, Samsung's already brought its wearable some important ...

When it comes to giving shoppers a lot of variety in its product designs, Samsung may be no Motorola, but it still manages to offer a fair assortment of color options. It feels like we're always seeing the manufacturer come out with some new shades for its smartphones, like the two new Galaxy Note 5 options we got a couple months back, and now it may be nearly ready to bring some new variants to its smartwatch lineup, as we hear of two new colors that could be just about to hit the Gear S2 family. Right now, shoppers have their choice of three Gear S2 looks: there's the Gear S2 proper in ...

The Huawei Watch took a unique corner of the smartwatch market: luxury fit-and-finish with Android Wear inside. It's not a Tag Heuer watch, but it seemed fitting for it to go at the Apple Watch, at least so far as the Apple Watch Sport goes. Women have had to dread smart wristwear — including the Huawei Watch — for the longest time as designers seemed to have completely ignored their sizing needs and styling wants. According to some sources, it seems that Huawei may have finally listened and is ready to go at CES with some Huawei Watches that have a little more femme flair in mind. New ...

Smartwatches are a super-attractive gift this holiday season, and manufacturers are doing everything they can to make sure it's their models we're putting under the tree. Pebble's been really standing out over the course of the last few weeks, both thanks to some great deals on various models – including an only very recent price cut on the new Pebble Time Round – as well as promises of a major software update about to hit first-gen models, with public beta testing of the new timeline interface getting started just under a week ago. It turns out that Pebble's not wasting any time in ...

Before LG attempted to bring us the Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE – a smartwatch with a ton of promise that was mysteriously pulled from sales nearly as soon as it became available – we had the the first-gen Watch Urbane. Going up for sale back in April the smartwatch is still relatively young, and we found a lot to like about the wearable when performing our review, from its premium metal construction to high-quality OLED display. If there was one big negative to the Watch Urbane, though, it had to be the price: at $350, it's one of the pricier Android Wear options out there, and ...

How many children of the '80s first laid eyes on a calculator watch only to immediately think, “I'm never going to flunk a math test again?” Maybe you got away with a few surreptitious sums before the teacher caught on, but unless you had a really fancy model, it probably wasn't long before the math you were learning became a little more advanced than a cheap watch could handle. These days, though, we're well into the era of smartwatches, and between native apps and wireless connectivity, the sky's practically the limit for what they're capable of pulling off. Now teachers are catching ...

With the introduction of the Pebble Time earlier this year, Pebble unveiled a new look for its smartwatches. We're not just talking about the color screen on the Time, either, as the model debuted running version 3.0 firmware, complete with support for a new timeline interface. Every since, we've been wondering when Pebble might get around to bringing the same interface to older Pebble models, and about a month back we learned that the manufacturer was preparing to get a beta test going sometime in December. Today, Android users get their chance to participate, as sign-ups open to test ...

Apple first unveiled the Apple Watch well over a year ago, showing off the smartwatch during its September 2014 iPhone 6 launch event. With our appetites sufficiently whetted, we spent the next few months waiting patiently for the chance to finally get our hands on the wearable, before it ultimately arrived in April. But for as well-received as the Apple Watch was, some critics still saw the smartwatch as a work in progress, and looked forward to Apple's second-gen effort. We've been hearing talk about a possible Q2 2016 ETA for such a model, but hadn't picked up many specifics about those ...

Samsung's Gear S2 smartwatch is packing some special hardware inside its case, and unlike the vast majority of wearables out there, the Gear S2 is capable of communicating over NFC. Combined with the manufacturer’s Samsung Pay software and infrastructure, that should give the smartwatch the ability to conduct mobile payments on its own – and certainly, that's one Gear S2 feature Samsung's advertised. At least, it's a feature the Gear S2 is set to pick up, as the watch shipped without Samsung Pay support ready to go. While Samsung once said that users could expect to see it go live ...

With the Gear S2, Samsung stepped outside its comfort zone for its Tizen-based wearables and opened compatibility to Android smartphones at large – well, those that aren't using encrypted filesystems, anyway. But rumors have recently been suggesting that the company's ambitions may be grander still, and Samsung could be looking into the idea of bringing support for the Gear S2 to the iPhone. We first heard the rumor about three weeks back, along with the note that Samsung was looking to make such support available sometime before the year's end. While the manufacturer has yet to confirm ...

It's been just about three months now since Motorola's latest smartwatch options debuted, and alongside the multi-sized standard Moto 360, we also saw the introduction of the company's new rugged option, the Moto 360 Sport. At least, while Motorola went official with the model, which adds GPS reception to its bag of tricks, all the way back in early September, it didn't have anything to share with us at the time about the wearable's release plans – dates, markets, pricing: nada. Today Motorola's stepping up to continue the Moto 360 Sport's story, bringing us those long-awaited answers. ...
