Back around the time of the CES, AT&T announced a handful of phones and tablets which it intended to release during the early months of 2012. Among those models was Samsung’s Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD, a hardware-refreshed GS2 with a 720p display and support for AT&T’s nascent LTE network. A couple months later, we saw the FCC publish the phone’s certification paperwork, making it appear than progress towards its release was coming along swimmingly. Things have hit a snag, though, and Samsung has now confirmed that AT&T has abandoned its plans for the [...]
As the past generation of Android smartphones ever-so-slowly starts receiving updates to bring them forward to Ice Cream Sandwich, we’ve heard plenty of promises from both manufacturers and carriers about which devices would end up making the Android 4.0 cut, and which would be left behind. Today we’ve got some updated info on the manufacturer side of things, with Samsung publishing a carrier-by-carrier breakdown of which models would be seeing ICS updates in the States.
Since we’ve already heard commentary about many of these models and their prospects for ICS [...]
Just a day or so following an alleged leak of ICS for the SGSII Skyrocket, the AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy S II is now officially on the list of devices that will be getting CM9 based on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
According to a post on the CyanogenMod Google+ page, the name of the AT&T variant of Galaxy S II is no longer “galaxys2att” (like it was for CM7), now it’s the “i777”, which is its device model name. Additionally, the first CM9 nightly for the i777 is live! Yes, you can go and get CM9 for your AT&T SGSII right [...]
A few hours ago, we learned form HTC that users on AT&T were about to get Ice Cream Sandwich on their Vivid smartphones. Since then, AT&T has released its own statement, confirming today’s availability of ICS for the Vivid, and giving us an official list of the phones it plans to see upgraded to Android 4.0.
Much like the list released by Verizon at the beginning of the month, we’ve already heard a lot of this from manufacturers, but it’s reassuring to see things backed-up by carriers, as we all know how much influence they have over whether or not [...]
I wish Samsung knew that we have a 65-character limit for the title of any post we write so they could probably go for smaller names whenever they release their next big thing. The only reason why we forgive them for taking up half that character limit with AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD, is because the device is hot enough to deserve it. Being one of AT&T’s six new LTE capable smartphones, we couldn’t stop but wonder how soon we’d get it, and it seems that the date just got close.
The device just stopped by the FCC for a quick nod [...]
Samsung’s Galaxy S II on AT&T is set to receive a small maintenance update. Reports have the update containing an assortment of small bugfixes, including more accurate battery life indication, updates to the lock screen, and some performance related improvements all pretty much standards for a smaller Android update. This would be the end of our story here, except for the fact that something seems to be going altogether wrong with the update’s distribution.
Shortly after owners of the Skyrocket started downloading and attempting to install their updates, news [...]
Even as it continues to build-out its LTE network to more and more markets, AT&T wasted no time in revealing a lineup of LTE-compatible smartphones right at the end of October. One of those first two models was a Samsung Galaxy S II, coming to AT&T as the Skyrocket. A few weeks later, we caught a glimpse of the Skyrocket all decked-out in white, but weren’t aware of just what AT&T’s plan for the new color option were. The manufacturer has now turned to Facebook to announce the smartphone’s availability.
AT&T will begin sales of the white [...]
