NetRipper, the developer of LeoCpuSpeed, has decided to create a similar overclocking utility for devices with less powerful processors. Msm7kCpuSpeed lets users underclock and overclock devices with Qualcomm MSM7xxx processors. This means devices like the HTC Touch Pro, Touch Pro2, Diamond, Diamond2, and Touch HD (528MHz by default) can be adjusted anywhere from 57MHz to 710MHz (19.2MHz increments). It can be clocked slightly higher, but seems to be unstable when above 710MHz. Unfortunately, the device must be plugged into a power source to receive the benefits of the utility. However, ...

HTC has released two updates today on their European Support website, both addressing the same issue but on different devices: HTC HD Mini and HTC Touch Pro2. According to the description "this update amends the internal management of SMS functionality, and enhances SMS transmission stability". As far as installation goes, the same procedure applies to both devices: copy the downloaded file to your device and run it. Note: If you perform a Hard Reset, you will need to reapply the update. We've been teased with the development of multi-touch for (single-touch) resistive screens for quite a while. A couple of months ago, a Dual-Touch SDK was finally released on XDA, which brought us closer to realizing the dream, and now it seems one developer has taken it a step further by putting it to good use. OndraSter has released a video showing that he's achieved pinch to zoom functions in Opera Mobile 9.7 - using an HTC Touch Pro2 and its resistive screen. He claims it works in HTC Album as well and actually goes on to state that "it should work in theory in any application." As you ...

The wait for MaxSense, a new UI for HTC Windows phones, is nearly over. If you haven't heard of Maxycy's latest endeavor, MaxSense is essentially a major overhaul of HTC Sense 2.5. With it, we still get the Sense features we know and love, but now they're reconfigured and combined with some sweet, new features. Most notable are the 3 Android-like home screens (customizable with widgets), Sense launcher, 75 quick links panels, and a custom taskbar. If you're a fan of Sense 2.5 "power" mods, like Co0kie's Home Tab, you're going to appreciate what's in store to hit XDA-developers very, very ...

A couple of months ago we showed you how you could run Ubunutu on your Touch Pro2 using Haret.exe. Well, the project continues to evolve over at XDA, and the latest builds add more functionality, like WiFi, web browser, screen rotation, and more. I was able to get WiFi working through my Touch Pro2. To get it going is super easy - just transfer the files to your storage card, and run haret.exe. Thanks for the tip, Jeff.

If you're on the AT&T network and are in desperate need of an upgrade, or are simply considering a switch, this'll help you decide. Starting today, all Amazon sold At&t phones cost a penny and the sale will last until April 16th. Sadly this deal won't get you an iPhone, but it will offer powerhouses like the At&t Tilt, Motorola Backflip, BlackBerry Bold 9700, LG eXpo among others. The following is a list of Amazon's current best selling phones on the At&t network: 1. BlackBerry Bold 9700 Phone (AT&T) 2. Motorola BACKFLIP Android Phone (AT&T) 3. Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot C905a 8.1 MP Camera ...

Device teardowns are always informative and interesting, especially when they come in the form of official step-by-step video manuals for training purposes. We were fortunate to see the HTC HD2 get disassembled and rebuilt in this fashion last month, but now the spotlight is on the widely released Touch Pro2. In these leaked videos below, the TP2 gets taken apart and put back together by trained HTC employees in about 10 minutes. The Touch Pro2 makes a unique device to rip apart because of all the intricate, moving parts - after all, it does slide open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. ...

Verizon Wireless is having a fantastic deal on their variant of the HTC Touch Pro2. Current subscribers, looking to renew with a 2 year agreement, can purchase the TP2 for just $29.99 and new customers can have it for $79.99 (regularly $199.99). It's part of Verizon's 3 day online exclusive sale, which ends on April 8. The Touch Pro2 is one of the most widely released Windows phones to date. Although it doesn't have the power of the HD2, it's still a solid device thanks to its best in class slide-out QWERTY keyboard and large 3.6" WVGA tilting display.

Sense UI is the latest generation of HTC's custom built User Interface running on top of the Operating System and spreading deep inside it. You'll probably be spending most of your time in Sense, so customizing it to your liking is a thing you'll want to do. This guide is for Windows Phones running Sense like the HD2, Touch Pro2, Diamond2, Touch HD, and more. By default, you can do very little to the User Interface. You can change the Home Tab wallpaper to an image of your liking but that will only be for the Home Tab and not for the rest of Sense. You can add or remove Home screen tabs, ...

Finally! The one word many Sprint subscribers are shouting across the country today as Sprint/HTC finally released the promised Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade for their Touch Pro2. A highly debated rumor turned out to be true, Sense 2.5 (build 2012) is, in fact, on-board here. Now we know why the update took so long compared to other US carriers who released Sense 2.1 with their upgrades. We saw the Diamond2 receive an enhancement to Sense 2.5 yesterday, so it wasn't too shocking to see it make its way into Sprint's upgrade as well. Sprint Touch Pro2 users, you can finally feast on your WinMo ...

If you're sporting the Touch Diamond2, you can now get an official ROM update from HTC that will add Sense 2.5 with all of the cool new features. Click on for the UK English version, or you can change your country with the selector at the top of the screen. There's also a new update for the Touch Pro2, but it doesn't look like Sense 2.5. Enjoy! Thanks for the tip, FRD.

Unfortunately, it's been a long, grueling wait for Sprint HTC Touch Pro2 users and their Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade. After a Small Business catalog was posted the other week, confirming a March release, we're getting a clearer picture of the exact date now. A PPCGeeks member, 99accordv6, has posted an image from an internal document that shows a March 19 release date for the 6.5 upgrade. Another member has also confirmed the date. According to the document, the update will include Windows Mobile 6.5, improved social networking integration and Sense UI enhancements. My focus is on the ...

The zoom bar on the HTC Touch Pro2 and Diamond2 (Pure) allows zooming in/out while using certain applications like Opera Mobile, Excel, messaging, and some others. Personally, I don't use the bar at all because I find that it's either poorly implemented or I simply don't use the apps that support it. Well, I may actually start using it now, but not for what you may think. In the video below, we show you a hack from thx1200 that adds D-Pad actions to the zoom bar. So when you're in an app that's not "zoom aware," the bar can be used to move/scroll vertically, activate items and more. ...

The XDAndroid project, for Windows Mobile devices with (W)VGA displays, has progressed tremendously since we last filmed a video about it. A few months ago, we loaded it onto an HTC Diamond2 and not too many components worked. We were able to navigate around parts of the interface and use apps that didn't require a data connection, but that was about it. Progression of time and development tend to go hand in hand, so we decided to follow-up on Android for Windows phones. This time we tested it on an HTC Touch Pro2 (CDMA) and the results are astonishing. Watch the video below to see Android ...

Sprint's Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade for the HTC Touch Pro2 is long overdue and many users have been getting quite irritated. Although Sprint publicly stated that it will be out by the end of Q1, TP2 owners seem to have the mindset of "I'll believe it, when I see it." I don't blame them as every other carrier seems to have either launched their variant of the device with 6.5 preloaded or released an upgrade for it soon after. Hopefully this latest posting by a PPCGeeks member will help ease the pain that comes with the waiting process. Platin465 has posted part of a Sprint business pamphlet ...

This may be a testament to the versatility of Windows Mobile devices or to the genius of certain XDA members. It looks like user sebbo90 has figured out how to run Ubuntu on his Touch Pro2 through haret. Last month, user fatsal did likewise on the XPERIA X1. Ubuntu is a flavor of Linux (similar to Android), but is intended for laptops and desktops. You can give it a try yourself by loading the files onto your storage card, and running haret.exe. So far, most radios don't work, and the keyboard support is still not there, but nevertheless, it's cool to run Ubuntu on your phone! If you enjoy ...

The power of Windows Mobile and the sheer community brain power behind XDA-Developers have led to some amazing, powerful, and unique developments and hackery in the Windows Mobile and HTC landscape. The latest trick out your phone hackery will allow uber-geeks to run three operating systems on their phones! I don't think any other OS/software platform can make good use of some powerful hardware that HTC has blessed us with. First, we have the dual-boot solution that allows users to choose to load either Android or Windows Mobile onto their hardware. The latest hack comes via a software ...

After the Gen.Y dual-booting utility hit, we had seen the Touch Pro and Fuze get this dual-booting hackery built into a ROM. Now, XDA-Developers modders are striking again, with a customized dual-boot ROM for the more modern Touch Pro2 for those who want to get both Windows Mobile and Android onto their devices. You can view the ROM details over at XDA-Developers. A word of caution--flashing ROMs may brick your device and may invalidate your warranty or terms of service. Additionally, pocketnow.com is not responsible for damages or any violations to local laws, if any, that flashing a ROM ...

At the start of the year, many of us were blindsided by an annoying SMS bug, where timestamps would incorrectly display 2016 as the year. Fortunately, the guys at PPCGeeks came up with a temporary workaround at the time. Although the fix corrected the year, there was still an issue with the timestamp – as it would display the device-on time and not when the text was actually received. It may not be a big deal to some users, but it could cause problems for those that need exact times. Today, HTC released an official patch for this issue and we're hoping it's not the same fix cooked up on ...

PC World released their list of top ten smartphones and the names on the list all appear familiar, with the Motorola Droid placing first, followed by the iPhone 3GS, Motorola CLIQ, and the BlackBerry Bold 9700. A few Android devices also made the list, notably the Smasung Behold II and the T-Mobile myTouch 3G made by HTC. The Palm Pre placed sixth and the Windows Mobile 6.5 Verizon Wireless Samsung Omnia II placed ninth. Rounding out with number ten is the Droid Eris, essentially an HTC Hero variant for Verizon Wireless. In total, there were five Android devices, two BlackBerry ...

In this video we show Android 2.0.1 (Eclair) running on an HTC Touch Diamond2. While the Android installation is running from a Linux bootloader and isn't stable enough for day-to-day use (not to mention the lack of support for cellular data or WiFi), it's super easy to get going and allows you to experience a lot of Android from your Windows Mobile device. If you're running a Touch Pro2 or Touch HD, we've got some love for you too. We hope that one day we'll be able to do a real port of Android on Windows Mobile hardware, but for now, there's the emulator. See the download links below ...

The Verizon branded Samsung Omnia II comes with a fantastic software keyboard, called Swype, which uses an innovative method of input. The idea is that you slide from key to key without having to lift a finger. This saves time from having to punch in every letter one-by-one. With a little practice, users should eventually be able to compose text messages in a heart beat. Unfortunately, users of the original Omnia II have been left in the dark, as their devices did not feature Swype. Users of Max Manila are able to quickly cycle through different clock types with a single screen tap, adjust the amount of quick link slots on the home tab, retract the slider, put the interface into full screen, and much more. As you can see in the images, a new row of icons are placed on the home tab. These are for ...
