After months of waiting, and the past several weeks packed full of rumors about its forthcoming arrival, it was looking like updates to Windows Phone 7.8 were just about to arrive. Last week, we saw the most convincing evidence yet, making the case for the updates to start going out today, January 30. Sure enough, Nokia has just posted a message to its blog making the release official, starting distribution today and continuing into next month. Nokia says that owners of the Lumia 510, 610, 710, 800, and 900 can all look forward to seeing Windows Phone 7.8 updates arrive over the course of ...

Custom ROM hacking on Windows Phone may not get the same level of attention as the vibrant ROM scene on Android, but take a moment to look for them, and you'll find a similarly dedicated group of hackers trying to push the limits of what's possible on Microsoft's locked-down OS. Just like the Android ROM guys, these Windows Phone enthusiasts face plenty of obstacles in their way, not the least of which are secure bootloaders that prevent custom ROM flashing. Luckily for owners of the HTC Radar and Titan, custom HSPLs have just been released for the pair, opening up the door for flashing. ...

T-Mobile introduced the United States to its first native Windows Phone Mango handset last fall upon the release of the HTC Radar 4G. Since then, it's become one of the carrier's most popular models. To help keep it up on top, the phone will soon be getting a small software update, as revealed through a leaked T-Mobile screenshot. According to this info, notifications for the Radar 4G's update should start going out to T-Mobile subscribers today. Most of the changes attributed to this release, bringing the phone up to system software 7.10.8107.79, are relatively minor, and mainly of the ...

For what we expected to be a pretty mediocre Windows Phone for a 2nd generation device a couple months ago, the HTC Radar 4G turned out to be quite a nice device, and the sales seem to be agreeing with us. The HTC Radar is the 3rd top selling phone on T-Mobile USA during both November and December of 2011 according to the Canaccord Genuity monthly channel checks. The Samsung Galaxy S II was T-Mobile's top seller for those two months followed by the HTC Amaze, both Android phones. The other three top carriers in the U.S. have very similar top selling phones. Number 1 on AT&T, Verizon, and ...

The T-Mobile HTC Radar 4G was a bit of a surprise hit when it was released last October for a very fair price of just $99 with a 2 year contract. Now there's an even better deal where you can get the phone for free, and T-Mobile will give you an extra $100 for your old phone. First off, the deal is only good through 1/5/2012 which is tomorrow. Secondly, it's a web-only deal, so you'll have to go to T-Mobile's site to take advantage of it. Thirdly, you'll want to make sure that your current phone qualifies for the $100 trade-in, which you can do by clicking here and entering "RADAR4G" as ...

The HTC Radar in the image above is the T-Mobile variant, the Radar 4G and, opposed to what we've been seeing -- plain white flavor -- it is a two-toned device. It surfaced on the official Microsoft Windows Phone website and the black seems to complement the white/grey aspect of the phone. It is unknown whether the phone actually exists (as in whether it will be available for purchase in the future) or it is just a mock-up or wishful Photoshop render. We have to admit though that it is looking quite good and could appeal to those who want an in-between black or white solution for their ...

A few weeks ago, we learned of an update on its way to several Windows Phone models, including the HTC HD7 in Europe. Although we thought the release would be geographically restricted, some HD7 owners on T-Mobile in the States did report successfully being able to update. If you weren't among them, and have been waiting for your own chance to get at the new software, a leaked screenshot from T-Mobile's computers reveals plans to deliver updates to both the HD7 and Radar 4G, starting tomorrow. The big news for the HD7 is the addition of support for Internet Sharing, turning your Windows ...

The Microsoft Store is having a pretty nice Black Friday sale today through Monday while supplies last. Amoung other good deals on PCs, Xbox bundles, games, and accessories, there's also some free Windows Phones. Of course, that is to say free with a new contract (or upgrade), but still that's pretty good. The free phones available are the new HTC Radar 4G on T-Mobile, the HTC Trophy on Verizon, or the HTC Arrive on Sprint. You don't have to go into a store either since you can just place the order online at the Microsoft Store website. If you or a family member were thinking about a new ...

Everyone is preparing for Black Friday and the deals are starting to pour in. This time it's Microsoft with some great offers for those who want to pick up a Windows Phone. If you have a Microsoft Store nearby, get there tomorrow. You'll be able to grab a new Windows Phone for free from any Microsoft brick and mortar store tomorrow with the occasion of the Black Friday deal. Of course you still have to sign a two-year carrier contract but if a new Windows Phone was already on your shopping list -- how about a Titan or Focus S? -- you know where to find them for free. Chances are the offer ...

We all know the HTC Radar is one of the manufacturer's first Windows Phone handsets running 7.5 Mango, and featuring the new hardware supported in this latest version of the operating system. It looks like at least one German retailer didn't get that message. While obviously a typo, we have to wonder just what Windows Mobile 2003 (couldn't even spring for SE?) would be like on this modern hardware. Then again, on second thought, let's just keep Windows Phone installed like it should be. Source: WMPoweruser

While there haven't been many secrets left concerning the US launches of Windows Phone 7.5 Mango devices, we've still been looking forward to see what Microsoft had to reveal at the event it had scheduled for earlier today. We did end up learning a little new information, but more than anything, today's event was about building-up Windows Phone buzz, with more than a little help from a six-story-tall WP7 smartphone. The only new tidbit we picked up had to do with the HTC Titan on AT&T, the last of the four handsets (also including the HTC Radar 4G, Samsung Focus S, and Samsung Focus Flash) ...

Watch this week's Windows Phone View as we wrap up all that's Good and Band inside the world of Microsoft's Windows Phone platform. In today's show we start by going through the new possible benefits all of us may get by the Nokia and Microsoft partnership, since it seems we'll get Nokia Maps for free very soon, no matter what Windows Phone you carry. Microsoft has also unveiled a new Marketplace Extra service that allows you to discover apps just like our weekly show, the Windows Phone App Roundup. We talk about Adam Lein's recent review of the T-Mobile HTC Radar 4G that ended up ...

The HTC Radar 4G just arrived at T-Mobile this week, but if you were expecting to have to wait a little before any really good deals on the phone came around, we've got a pleasant surprise for you. If you've got an old phone in working condition that's just been gathering dust, T-Mobile's got a trade-in promotion going that can net you the Radar for pretty much nothing on-contract. While this may not be quite free, since you've got to factor in the value of your old phone, we're betting more than a few of you have old dumbphones lying around in a drawer that you never plan on using again. ...

The HTC Radar 4G on T-Mobile, which scored a remarkable 4.5 out of 5 in our review, was supposed to be available from the carrier starting Wednesday, November 2, at least according to the official launch information. If you head over to the source link below you will be surprised to see that the phone is actually available online a couple of days before its announced availability date. It will set you back $99.99 with a two-year contract but you'll get a 4G-capable Windows Phone running the latest Mango iteration of the platform. Source: T-Mobile Via: PhoneArena

In our review of the HTC Radar 4G we were a bit surprised by the speed of the device, given, what many would presume to be, low-end specifications. It only has a 1Ghz processor after all. It turns out the WP Bench benchmarking app has confirmed what we noticed and shows that the Radar 4G is significantly faster than all of last year's Windows Phone models. On the other hand, it's certainly not as fast as some of the other new 2nd generation Windows Phones that have been coming out lately. At any rate, though it may sound like last year's specs, it certainly out-performs all of last year's ...
