Last we checked, there are 52 weeks in a year - but you wouldn't know it, given the announcement schedule of some major players in the tech space. Companies vying for the attention of fickle consumers often stack their events one right after the other in a strategic attempt to undermine competitors, sometimes hosting major announcements just days -or even hours- apart. Sometimes, it's all a tech podcast team can do to keep up. Such a thing happened this week, with Nokia preempting Google's annual I/O developer conference with an announcement of its own: the Lumia 925, a mid-cycle Windows ...

At Pocketnow, we have a responsibility to try the new, the fresh, and the weird - and that latter swamp is exactly the one Managing Editor Anton D. Nagy waded into with his recent review of the ASUS Fonepad - the tablet with an earpiece. Or the phone with a tablet screen. Whatever you want to call it, we've covered it - and Tony has some thoughts about using a seven-inch smartphone in this edition of one of your favorite tech podcasts. After we clear the giant-phone convo, we've got more to say. Lots more. And, doubtless to the relief of thousands, very little of it involves Samsung's ...

Not all of us have read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, so not all of us were exactly qualified to make the lame joke that kicks off this week's podcast. But we made it, and we stand behind it. Because as hundreds of fifth-rate "manufacturers" well know, sometimes you just have to fake it. But we're not talking about secondhand knockoff products in this episode of the Weekly. Rather, we get serious about octa-core comparisons, the till-recently-mythical HTC M4, the insanely cheap new Lumia out of Finland, and just how tired we are or aren't of the Samsung Galaxy S 4. In between, we ...

There are devices that deserve a modicum of coverage, and then there are devices that call for a maelstrom of coverage. Samsung's Galaxy S 4, the most hotly anticipated Android smartphone of 2013 so far, easily falls into the latter category, and we have no qualms about devoting an entire podcast to discussing the latest Google-powered beast out of Seoul. Tune in as Master Chief Stephen Schenck, Figurine Boatswain Taylor Martin, and Captain 2 Phones take you for an auditory tour of the high and low points of the Galaxy S 4, calling on the kind of strung-out expertise that only nine days ...

We didn't expect to run the Weekly with a skeleton crew two weeks in a row - and it's a good thing we didn't have to. Mere minutes into this week's Tony-and-Michael-only podcast, Taylor Martin arrives to save us from the spectre of a fun, but low-energy, two-man show. In its place: jokes, laughs, and a lot of industry insight you're gonna wanna put your ears on. We talk phone batteries that can jump-start your car, what place Twitter has in music, whether we should be excited about Motorola's X phone or Nokia's aluminum Catwalk, and the strengths and weaknesses of Windows Phone, Facebook ...

Stuff comes up, folks. Sometimes you've got a pressing appointment in Romania, or a meeting scheduled in Media, PA. Sometimes you're at the day job, other times you're off the grid somewhere in the country. Other times you're buying a car. These things happen. Fortunately for us, these things don't usually happen all at once, which means the Pocketnow Weekly podcast usually features more than two people on the air. But today, listeners, Lady Luck was not with us. Today, Sam the Scheduler was out sick, because every member of the Pocketnow team was otherwise engaged when it came time to ...

Sometimes you just have to schedule a podcast a few hours before a major news event, and as a result you've got to scramble to come up with some valid-sounding speculation about just how useful a Facebook Phone could really be. It's not like we haven't tossed this notion around before, but doing it on the air, off-the-cuff, imbues our lives with a certain energy, a certain je ne sais quoi, if you will. Or even if you won't. Whatever; we have a good time riffing. You'll listen and like it! Ahem. All that, plus some chat on just how big a copycat LG's Optimus G Pro is - and how well it does ...

We love us some new technology, and we certainly give it its fair shake on today's episode of the Pocketnow Weekly. But every so often, you need to give a little lip-service to the tech of days gone by. The platforms and devices of yesteryear. That's right: I'm talking about dead technology. It makes sense, then, that a man going by the twitter handle DeadTechnology is here to help us dust off those fond memories. In his inaugural visit to the Pocketnow Weekly, our own Adam Doud pulls back the veil of public apathy secrecy surrounding the phenomenon of the "webOS meetup," a regular ...

The Pocketnow Weekly podcast is a labor of love for those of us who routinely grace its silvery sound waves. It takes a lot of effort and time to put the Weekly on the feeds every seven days, and we're pretty proud of the listenership we've accrued since re-launching our podcast presence lo those many months ago. Since that reboot, the podcast has grown in scope and in refinement: we've added such luxuries as topic lists, time codes with jump points, and a rotating cast of co-hosts - but we've never tweaked the YouTube presence of the Weekly. For eight months, listeners taking in our ...

Sometimes ya ain't got time for dilly-dallyin', spit-swappin', or tall-tale-tellin'. Sometimes even dropping in a few time codes is too much to ask. Because sometimes the meat just needs to get out to the masses. This is one of those special times, and the meat we're putting on the market is our jawing. Our opinions. Our stories. And the subject this week is the two biggest Android smartphone launches of the year, coming from the two biggest sworn enemies of the entire Android landscape. That's right: this is the episode where we talk HTC One vs Galaxy S IV. We've had the One for just a ...

Ever recorded a 90-minute podcast full of Skype-related artifacts and drop-outs, only to find once you wrap it up that you used the wrong mic? If so, you know the pain we've experienced cutting together today's episode of the Pocketnow Weekly podcast. Sorry for the levels on this one, folks; it's unfortunate, and we've done all we can to normalize them, but you're probably going to be twisting your volume knob an awful lot over the course of this here episode. On the bright side, if you manage to endure, you'll be treated to some excellent discussion on everything from Galaxy S IV leaks to ...

We think it's pretty fair to say that MWC 2013 was one part IFA and one part CES: a few stark disappointments peppered among some really amazing stuff. We've seen technology this week ranging from the incredible to the absurd - from the third iteration of ASUS's wild Padfone concept to the improbable debut of a Kyocera Echo lookalike. The big guys have come out to play, too, but they're a little shy this time around: neither Samsung's Galaxy Note 8.0 nor Nokia's midrange Lumias blew the roof off the joint. Even a few has-beens came out to confuse us with their wares, some of which will be ...

In the far-off reaches of Barcelona, two men fight for the right to party tell their tale. Battling narrow urban canyons, strange fast-food condiments, kielbasa-selling mobile-phone salesmen, and seagulls with voices only seagull mothers could love, they fight tooth and nail to share their story. The story of the wonders of mobile technology. You won't hear about all of the weird encounters that have greeted Anton D. Nagy and Michael Fisher since their arrival in Spain for the 2013 Mobile World Congress, but you'll definitely get a taste of what it's been like on the first harrowing day ...

Rarely has the "lull" between trade shows given us so much to talk about. We kicked off the week with an exciting announcement welcoming two new members to the Pocketnow team, and since then we've barely been able to keep news, editorials, and videos on the front page long enough to read them. This feed is on fire. From ever-strengthening rumors about the HTC M7 and Samsung Galaxy S IV, to interviews with newcomers like Jolla, to new looks at old friends with BlackBerry 10, to modding and jailbreaking today's top smartphones, we've gotten a lot done since the last episode of the Weekly, ...

Even if it takes six Skype calls to make a podcast happen, we're gonna do it for you folks, because that's just the kind of guys we are. And it's a good thing, too; while the news cycle has calmed down somewhat in the wake of last week's big BlackBerry event, there's still plenty to talk about from the worlds of Android and Windows Phone, from rumors and speculation to ... well, no, just rumors and speculation, really. But it's scintillating stuff, especially if you're into things named "M7" and "Nokia Tablet." All that, plus listener mail and a heaping helping of Joe Levi's robot voice, ...
