It's not like podcast fans on Android haven't had plenty of options for finding and listening to the programming of their choice, but earlier this week Google stepped up to really help streamline things, fulfilling last year's promise of bringing full podcast support to Google Play Music. As both podcast fans and producers, we were seriously happy to see this move finally happen, but it turns out that Play Music integration was only one component to Google's new love affair with all things podcast. Today the company shares another way it's making it easier for listeners to connect with the ...

Back in October, just weeks after the latest Nexus phones debuted, Google had another big announcement to make, as it revealed that podcasts (like our own Pocketnow Weekly) would soon be getting an official home within Google Play Music. Well, maybe “soon” wasn't the right word, because while Google announced the coming feature, and invited content creators to apply to have their own podcasts included, it didn't offer a start date any more specific than sometime in the months to come. Half a year later, we finally started to get some signs that this support was nearly ready to go live, ...

As a premier podcast producer that has its shows consistently chart half of the top 20 podcasts on iTunes, NPR should know a thing or two about the podcast industry. We had word from sports-talker Bill Simmons that it was happening in February, but alas, Simmons deleted those words. Well, it seems that an NPR member station "Scoop" briefing has leaked out for this week and midway through it in ...

Android offers users no shortage of ways to consume podcasts, with plenty of apps ready to connect listeners with their favorite content. But for as many options as were out there, the platform's been missing an official central repository for podcast distribution. Last fall we saw Google begin to address this oversight, announcing plans to finally bring podcasts to Google Play Music. The company announced a few early partners and started accepting sign-ups from interested producers (ourselves included), but wasn't ready to offer a start date for the service going live – only saying that ...

When you go looking for a new app, it's good to know what you're getting into. That's why app stores like the Google Play Store try to provide users with ample notice of what to expect, from permissions the app will use, to the presence (and pricing) of in-app purchases, to a rating, warning users of potentially objectionable content. That's well and good when all the content in your app is coming right from the publisher, but what about when the app itself is a tool for consuming outside content: say, something along the lines of a web browser, or a media player? Developers of such titles ...
