If 2011 was supposed to be the "year of the tablet," with over 100 new models announced at that year's CES alone, 2012 may be shaping up to be the year of the "phablet," the phone-tablet hybrid whose widespread usefulness has yet to be proven. While the survivors of the first battles of the tablet war have upgraded their normal-sized offerings, the novelty-generating buzz seems to be emanating from elsewhere. The spotlight currently sits on smaller devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note and LG Optimus Vu, and to a lesser extent, on rumors of devices with larger-than-10" screens. I'm not sure ...

With the Mobile World Congress just about to commence in Barcelona, it should be no surprise that the companies preparing to demonstrate their latest handsets have been getting their gear together in preparation of the show. That much smartphone hardware all together in one place is just making it more and more likely that bits and pieces will leak out a little early, giving us some teases of what we can hope to see once things really get started. Today we continue to get a closer look at the handset, with images comparing its form factor against another Android. In the image above, you can see the Vu on the left with its 4:3 screen, and the Samsung ...

Just yesterday we've heard of the LG Miracle, an upcoming Windows Phone offering from the South Korean manufacturer, and it looks like it's not the only new phone the company is working on. What you see in the image above is the LG Optimus VU. The teaser video below doesn't give out much info about the device except for its main selling point: a five-inch screen. This would be regarded as massive if it weren't for the Samsung Galaxy Note; however, what's unique about the Optimus VU is the fact that it uses a 4:3 aspect ratio instead of the conventional 16:9 (or similar) wide-screen ...
