At the end of October LG brought the news that the Optimus Black will receive its Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread update -- alongside the Optimus 2X and Optimus 3D. As a word of note, the Optimus Black is also listed in the Ice Cream Sandwich update list, with an approximate roll-out date set out for Q3 2012. The Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread update is rolling out in India and Europe, according to reports, as version V20N. The changes and refer to improved power management, enhanced mobile gaming experience, improved UI to enable faster access and control and a more intuitive user experience, ...

Back in December, we broke the news that Boost Mobile was looking to expand its Android lineup with the the LG Optimus Black and the Samsung Replenish. Not much later after that, we got our hands on the first press shots of the two phones all decked-out with Boost logos. At the time, though, we lacked a good sense of Boost's release plans for the pair. That mystery started solving itself earlier this month, when Boost announced the coming availability of the Samsung Replenish. Now the final piece is falling into place, with Boost revealing that the LG Optimus Black will be arriving on the ...

Now that smartphone manufacturers have had some time to look at the Ice Cream Sandwich source, we're starting to hear some more detailed estimates of when certain handsets are likely to start receiving their updates to Android 4.0. Just last week, Sony Ericsson talked about its plans to get Ice Cream Sandwich out to its Xperia and Walkman models in early spring. Today it's LG's turn, and the company has taken to Facebook to post its current schedule for Android 4.0 deployment. The first of LG's phones to make the jump to ICS will get their updates sometime in the second quarter of next ...

We've heard that LG's Optimus Black will be coming to yet another carrier, and the Samsung Replenish will soon find a home away from Sprint, with both models on-track for joining Boost Mobile's stable of Androids. Considering it only has three such selections at the moment, taking on two more will go a long way towards giving it a decent spread of handsets. We still don't have any new information on the release plans for the pair to share with you, but now we've got a couple press shots showing off what the Black and Replenish will look like when they do make their way to Boost. There's ...

Boost Mobile looks like it could be planning to add a couple new handsets to its selection of Android devices, already consisting of the ZTE Warp, Samsung Transform Ultra, and Samsung Prevail. We hear that the carrier may soon be augmenting that list with the LG Optimus Black and Samsung Replenish. We've seen signs pointing to the arrival of the LG Optimus Black on a whole bunch of smaller carriers in the States. Model numbers tell the tale of Blacks for US Cellular, Alltel, and Virgin Mobile, and we've managed to get a look at US Cellular's version, called the LG Majestic. Despite all ...

After HTC officially announced which phones will get Ice Cream Sandwich and approximately when, it is now LG's turn to publish information on its Facebook page related to the latest Google platform. According to the information shared, the Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black, the Optimus 3D and the Optimus LTE will be the first ones to get the refresh. Exact information about the roll-out process and availability is expected later on, in December, as well as additional wording on other phones that might get the update, given "it is compatible with the functionality, features and performance of ...

LG's Optimus Black has been out in Europe since the spring, but its spread to reach-out to US markets has been a long, slow process. Over the summer, we found evidence that suggested the Froyo Android (though Gingerbread's on-tap for later this month) would be coming to a whole bunch of US carriers, but still lacked any kind of ETA. We then saw the phone on a leaked Sprint roadmap, and later learned that it would arrive on the carrier as the LG Marquee. We're still waiting on the Optimus Black for US Cellular, Alltel, and Virgin Mobile, but we recently discovered what we believe to be the ...

Sprint ended up finally getting the LG Optimus Black in the form of the LG Marquee. Back before we first heard the name Marquee, though, we had matched the handset's model number up with variations for a whole bunch of US carriers. What we didn't have were names for all those others; would they launch as the Black, as the Marquee, or with new identities altogether? It seems that the latter will be the case, at least according to some new evidence we've found, lending names to a couple of these mystery Blacks. Besides the Marquee, we had been expecting to see the Black arrive at US ...

We recently learned of LG's plans to deny its dual-core Optimus 2X an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, a regrettable fate for the smartphone if the news ends up panning-out. Despite that rather large setback, the future isn't entirely dim for Optimus 2X owners; LG just revealed that Gingerbread updates are on the way, not just to the 2X, but for the Optimus 3D and Optimus Black as well. The Optimus 2X will be the first to have its shot at Gingerbread. According to its Facebook page, LG will begin distribution of the update tomorrow, November 1. A few weeks later on, it will be the Optimus ...

We only first heard of the LG Marquee earlier this month, after a Radio Shack video gave away its existence with a brief cameo. It sure looked like an Optimus Black, and it didn't take long before we were able to match the Black's model number to the Marquee. Just days later – all of this spanning a mere week – Sprint formally announced the smartphone with a planned October 2 launch. With under a week to go, Sprint has uploaded an overview of the phone to YouTube, giving you one last preview before it hits retail. After going over the Marquee's hardware layout, detailing the placement of ...

The LG Optimus Black was one lightweight phone that the manufacturer introduced at CES, having a great NOVA display with excellent brightness. It also came in white to certain regions, like the U.K. for instance where it was available for pre-order at the end of June. Telus in Canada is preparing to get the white version of the LG Optimus Black (LG Optimus White), according to information received by the good people MobileSyrup. It will join the Optimus Black the carrier got in its line-up this summer and it should be available starting today for $399.99 (phone only) or free on a ...

It looks like Sprint's version of the LG Optimus Black -- dubbed the LG Marquee, we recently learned -- will bring a little less black than the global version, adopting a gray pinstripe for the back battery cover. Other than that slight change, however, Sprint's LS855 looks very much like the P970 which has been selling internationally for some months now. Although Marquee promises to deliver one of the brightest screens on the market, the rest of its specs are pretty mid-range: 1GHz, single-core OMAP 3630, WVGA resolution, 512MB RAM, and a five-megapixel camera. Last we heard, Marquee was ...

Last week, Radio Shack uploaded a video to YouTube showing off the new, white edition of the HTC EVO 3D. What really caught our eye, though, wasn't the autostereoscopic handset, but another shown for just a brief moment; an establishing shot of the expo at which the video was recorded shows the LG Marquee, a smartphone name we hadn't heard before. At the time, there was some speculation that the device might be the LG Optimus Black, since the glance we got looked similar enough to the Black, and it's an LG model we've been expecting to arrive on Sprint. Now it looks like we can confirm the ...

Back in August we learned that Radio Shack would be offering a special white version of HTC's EVO 3D sometime this month. The company recently took to YouTube to show the phone off, with footage coming from this year's Radio Shack Business Summit in Texas. While there's not much new worth talking about when it comes to the EVO 3D except its lily-white veneer, you might notice that one of the video's establishing shots of the expo reveals a phone we haven't heard of before: the LG Marquee. All we get of the phone is this one brief shot, showing carrier badging for Sprint. The popular theory ...

Last month, a leaked spreadsheet showed some estimations of when Sprint would be getting its latest smartphone models. At the time, we got some good information on BlackBerry devices. That spreadsheet has been updated since it was last leaked, and now shows some additional models on the schedule, including a slider we thought Sprint had given up on, and LG's Optimus Black. The Optimus Black pops up as model LS855, just as we were expecting it to. After converting the entries in the leaked spreadsheet to usable dates, it appears that its Sprint launch is anticipated for October 2. We should ...

With its 1GHz single-core processor and its super bright "NOVA" display, the LG Optimus Black Android phone was introduced by the Korean manufacturer at this year's CES back in January. They key words here are "Android phone", but the picture above shows something different. What we've got in the image above is anyone's guess. At a first glance we've got the LG Optimus Black running Windows Phone. If we were to speculate on that, we could come up with four possible explanations: 1. fake (either as in Photoshop or displaying screenshots); 2. port (as in Windows Phone being ported to an ...

First we have the Motorola Electrify, your Motorola Photon, with its dual-core Tegra 2 processor, 4.3-inch qHD display, eight-megapixel camera and Android 2.3, allegedly coming October. Next up is the LG Optimus Black and its ultra-bright "NOVA" display of four inches, ...

The success of LG's Optimus One seems to have opened the door for the manufacturer to bring higher-end devices to the states, and now it looks as if the Optimus Black will land on Sprint, Virgin, and Alltel alongside US Cellular, which we learned last month. Thanks to an entry in the Tera-WURFL handset database, we discovered that model US855 was an Optimus Black variant, with the US tipping a US Celluar destination. And now that US855 has passed through the FCC, we find that it will also be available as the LS855, AS855, and VM855 -- with LS, AS, and VM being LG's codes for Sprint, ...

The LG Optimus Black showed up in a special edition white color, unsurprisingly called the LG Optimus White and is available to pre-order in the U.K. We've heard of other possible color variations for the smartphone back in January and here it is, the LG Optimus White. U.K. isn't the only market where a white LG Optimus Black makes its appearance. Japan has the LG Optimus Bright on DoCoMo (image below) and hopefully other markets will get the pale version too. The smartphone, initially launched at CES, sports an exceptionally bright, four-inch, 700 nit NOVA display and a two-megapixel ...

Two high-end LG handsets have been tipped for smaller US carriers: the LG Revolution for MetroPCS and LG Optimus Black for US Cellular. Both the MS910 and US855 have entries in the Tera-WURFL database, a comprehensive listing of handsets culled from developer-contributed specifications regarding wireless and messaging capabilities. With MS910 going by the codename Bryce -- the same codename as the VS910 Revolution -- and "MS" designated by LG as the prefix for Android handsets on MetroPCS, its identity and destination seem fairly certain. The fact that Metro is looking for smartphones to ...

Hidden away withing the carrier's Sprint ID app, there lives a list of Sprint devices. More than just what's currently available on Sprint, the list includes a few placeholders for smartphones that have yet to be released. With a little guesswork, we can take a stab at identifying what upcoming hardware each name refers to. The list currently includes the unreleased LG Optimus B, LG Q, Samsung Chief, and Motorola Sunfire. The Optimus B could easily be the LG Optimus Black. Early on, before "Black" took hold, the smartphone was referred to as simply the LG B. Lacking any other reasonable ...

U.S. Cellular has announced its plans for bringing a total of eight smartphones to its line-up this year out of which seven Google Android-powered (including its first 4G-enabled smartphone) and one Microsoft Windows Phone 7-powered smartphone. From the above mentioned eight, three will be made by Taiwanese manufacturer HTC, two running Android and one Windows Phone. There will also be a dual-core 1GHz processor-powered Motorola smartphone with a 4.3-inch display running Android (probably an Atrix-like model) as well as "one of the slimmest and lightest smartphones" from LG (the Optimus ...

The LG Optimus Black -- with its 1GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, five-megapixel main camera with auto-focus and LED flash, front-facing two-megapixel webcam and more -- is coming shortly to the U.S. but Canada gets a special edition. The LG Optimus Black Skype Edition is your ordinary Optimus Black but sports a pre-loaded Skype app, making it the "first Skype-branded phone on the Canadian market". Apparently there's a deal between Telus and Skype that would offer Optimus Black Skype Edition owners 60 minutes of Skype international calling credits as well as Skype $2 credit. LG's Optimus Black has a lot of things going for it: it's super-slim, light as a feather, and has one heck of a bright screen thanks to LG's NOVA display technology. It's pretty easy for us to appreciate its specs, but when you're comparing smartphone vs. smartphone and talking about measurements differing by tenths of millimeters, that analysis can get pretty dry, pretty fast, for the layman. Early last month, LG released a teaser video for the Optimus Black that ran into just that kind of problem. Clearly it's learned a little since then (or just hired a better ad agency), and has now ...

After showing the world how thin and light the LG Optimus Black is -- which is by the way available on T-Mobile U.K. and hopefully soon in the U.S. -- the Korean manufacturer brags about the one-handed usability of the Android smartphone. Using the combination of Gesture UI and G-Key, you can easily operate the smartphone with only using one hand. Tasks like answering a call, skipping to the next song in the playlist or picture in an album and heading directly to the Camera application is rather simple.
