A big thanks to all of you who followed us and commented and thank you to all the participants! Drum roll! Congratulations to Olof Ljunggren for winning a brand new LG Optimus 7 from pocketnow.com and LG. He told us his favorite Windows Phone 7 feature is "The homescreen with all the live tiles". LG's Voice to Text application has been advertised as giving a unique experience on Windows Phone 7 ever since they announced the LG Optimus 7 and the Quantum but unfortunately the application was not released until recently. Your whole workflow with this app will be reduced to starting the app, tapping the proper icon (for text message, email, tweet or note), talk and tap send (you need to select a recipient too). It will save you the time wasted on typing the text on the keyboard and, even if punctuation is not properly perceived, it's always easier to re-read the message and add a comma ...

The LG Optimus 7 has performed impressively well in head-to-head speed comparisons with other Windows Phone 7 devices, and now we may know why: a teardown has revealed that it's one of the rare launch devices to use flash NAND for storage instead of microSD cards. In fact, Samsung's Omnia 7 is the only other shipping WP7 handset we're aware of that has eschewed the slower-but-cheaper-and-more-abundant cards. While some folks may bemoan the inability to upgrade these two handsets' storage, the truth of the matter is that only the Samsung Focus grants card slot access without risk of voiding ...

After taking the Look N Type application for a short spin on the LG Optimus 7, we take a look at another LG program available from the LG Application Store inside Windows Phone 7's Marketplace. The app is called Photo Stylist and is available for free for LG Windows Phone 7 owners. It is a program which enables you to add effects and filters to your pictures on the phone as well as customize them, all with the help of a real time preview. You can either select a picture from your Collection or you can have the app simply grab a photo using the handset's camera and start working on your ...

LG is offering free applications for LG Windows Phone 7 owners which can be accessed from the LG Application Store inside Windows Phone 7's Marketplace. Look N Type is an application similar to Android's RoadSMS and TransparentSMS on Windows Phone 6.x platforms and it will overlay the camera image to the screen so that you can see what's ahead of you while composing an Email, Text Message or tweet. While I don't recommend texting and doing something else -- because it can get you in trouble -- the application is working well and is packed with features that allow you to change font type, ...

Just a couple of days back we posted about some high magnification pictures of several display types employed by different manufacturers taken with a microscope to uncover the differences in pixels when it comes to different screen types and today we're given a look at AMOLED vs. LCD on two Windows Phone 7 devices. The two devices in the video are the Samsung Omnia 7 and LG Optimus 7, with the first one employing an S-AMOLED screen and the second an LCD screen. What you can clearly see in the video is that, besides the advantages of S-AMOLED screens (like contrast, deep blacks and ...

The LG Optimus 7, one of which we are giving away brand new in our contest, comes bundled with another nice feature besides the unique DLNA support and it is called Panorama Shot. This program accesses your camera application and enables you to take 180 degree panorama shots split out into five pictures with a single push of the shutter button. The principle is very easy: start the Panorama Shot application, press the Camera button to capture the first segment of your panoramic picture and then the application automatically overlays the arrows indicating in which direction to move your ...

A unique feature of the LG Optimus 7 Windows Phone 7 handset -- one of which you can win brand new with our contest -- is DLNA support and implementation which enables you to hook your handset up with another DLNA-enabled device in order to play back music, videos and pictures. Branded as LG's own Play To application bundled with the LG Optimus 7, lets you easily enjoy content on your phone beyond its screen by connecting the device to a WiFi network, selecting another DLNA device on the network where the Optimus 7 will stream to and simply choose what you want to play back as we ...

In this video we're taking a look at the hardware on the LG Optimus 7 as well as the form factor and build quality of the Korean Windows Phone 7 handset. The device is solid, feels good in hand and the materials used leave the impression of a well-designed, well-built handset. The battery cover is stainless steel and the casing is plastic -- but doesn't feel cheap at all -- as well as plastic hardware buttons at the bottom (my only concern is that the silver color on these might fade away with time but we'll have to see that in the long run). Specs-wise, the LG Optimus 7 is pretty much ...

With Windows Phone 7 out worldwide now, we're pretty excited about first gen handsets and with Microsoft's strict hardware requirements related to the Operating System, most of the devices out there are pretty much the same specs-wise -- as manufacturers tend to go with minimum or budget solutions. At the end of the day, it all comes down to the quality of components, materials used as well as proprietary software bundled and the LG Optimus 7 is bringing a rock solid build to the table with nice finish and an 1,500mAh battery -- largest among Windows Phone 7 handsets -- that powers a 1GHz ...

We've seen some pretty interesting Windows Phone 7 ads already, but LG has really raised the bar with a pair of compelling two-minute Optimus 7 commercials (and one Optimus One spot as well) which achieve that difficult marketing goal of entertaining while educating. All three eschew human actors for animated shorts that mix mediums such as stop-motion, claymation, and comic books with CGI enhancements for visually-exciting experiences; at the same time, the viewer becomes acquainted with several unique features of the handsets, like the DLNA WiFi sharing, Microsoft Sharepoint ...

Australian developer Chris Walsh recently found a method to run so-called native code on the platform indicating that jailbreaking Windows Phone 7 could be possible, though it's a first step in a huge process. Same developer seems to have conquered another OS tower as he now tweeted that he's got registry and file system access. The tweet also mentions that this was achieved on Samsung and HTC devices and the developer is committed to getting that on LG handsets too. Are these hacks device dependent? Normally they shouldn't be but, as with the case of USB tethering on the Samsung Focus and ...
