Before you continue reading any further please understand that anything you do to your smartphone is your own responsibility as the procedure described above can be harmful, void your warranty or even render your smartphone useless. That being said, we understood the disclaimer and got ourselves a Windows Phone 7 Mango-powered LG Optimus 7 (which was unlocked as in not tied to any carrier at all). You can update to Mango too, just read below. You don't need to have a developer unlocked smartphone or pre-tampered with in any way, it worked on our stock LG Optimus 7 just fine. While there ...

The Samsung Omnia 7 sports 8GB of internal memory while the LG Optimus 7 has 16GB, both being NAND storages opposed to other Windows Phone 7 devices that use microSD cards for internal storage. While either of them will be faster compared to other microSD-powered Windows Phone 7 smartphones, the LG Optimus 7 wins over the Samsung Omnia 7 in both our internet page loading and game loading speed tests. Check out the video below to see what the margins are when it comes to both internet page loading times as well as launching Xbox Live games:

LG, as other Windows Phone 7 OEMs, has a dedicated section in the Marketplace only for owners of the manufacturer's smartphones. That section, besides free apps for LG Windows Phone owners, got richer with a program called LGHangul, a Korean input application. LGHangul, as the description says, "is the easiest way to type Korean on your Windows Phone". One of the flaws -- or not addressed lacks -- of Windows Phone is the thin support for localization and additional languages. A new set will be added this year, hopefully with Mango, but until then, users speaking Korean for instance can ...

We've showed you the performance improvements the NoDo update (build 7390) brings to Windows Phone 7 and you definitely know about the Copy/Paste feature but today we'll show you how to multiple times Paste a text copied to the Clipboard. Once a certain text, word or paragraph, has been copied, it can be pasted any place where text input is possible. Once you paste your text though, the Paste icon disappears. But how about when you want to introduce the same text copied several times? Check out the video below to see how it's done.

One of the advertised improvements in Windows Phone 7 March update dubbed NoDo -- besides the Copy/Paste feature added -- is the improved performance. Microsoft has reduced application loading times and also made programs resume faster. In this video we will compare Windows Phone 7 NoDo to Windows Phone 7 pre-NoDo and see how they perform. Windows Phone 7 February update (aka pre-NoDo) doesn't bring any features or improvements (we know of) but only prepares the devices to receive the March update. We've used two LG Optimus 7 devices which were basically mirrored with the exact same amount ...

We've recently updated our LG Optimus 7 to Windows Phone 7 NoDo build 7390 and we were surprised to see that after the update completed our main system disk was running low on space. The PC used to update the smartphone sports a 64GB SSD as its primary system drive which before the update had roughly 12GB free on it. Zune software automatically backs up your device when updating Windows Phone 7 -- just in case anything goes wrong -- and it looks like the backup is an actual image of your device itself. We had around 11GB of music, videos, applications, games and whatnot installed on our ...

Canadian smartphone users who are looking to pick up a new model are in for a treat, since Telus has slashed prices on many of it popular models, offering most for free when you sign-on for a three-year term. While some of the newest models, like the HTC Desire HD, will still set you back $50, the vast majority are available at no cost after subsidies. Android smartphones that are free with this offer include the original HTC Desire, the LG Optimus One, the Droid-like Motorola Milestone, Samsung's Fascinate, and the Motorola Charm. Some, like the Charm, stuck on Android 2.1, are clearly ...

Windows Phone 7 was launched at the end of 2010 -- October 11 for Europe and Australia, adding America on November 8 -- and, at that time, had ambitions for 30 countries worldwide, with support for five languages and a Marketplace operating in 17 countries. On February 21, 2011, Microsoft started pushing out the first ever Windows Phone 7 update in a first major global project of this kind in Redmond's mobile history. As we're convinced you've heard us talking in our PocketCast (that is Episode 5, starting 10:41), there were mixed thoughts regarding both the update availability –- carrier ...

Mobile analytics provider mtiks has made some Windows Phone 7 related numbers public on its blog regarding app statistics by device, country and usage. According to the figures, the US market is the number one market for Windows Phone 7 applications with 57.3% -- which is to be expected as a home country with a vast population and two carriers to start off the platform -- followed by Germany (18.48%) and UK (7.49%). Both app number and app usage-wise, the Samsung Focus is the most popular Windows Phone 7 device followed by the HTC HD7. From a centralized point of view, the top Windows ...

Even if you are not a Windows Phone 7 user, you most probably learned by now that Microsoft has started pushing out a first Windows Phone 7 update, a prerequisite if you will for the upcoming NoDo to be out in March. On the same note, you probably also heard that there were some issues involved and Microsoft has made its stance public on the first ever Windows Phone 7 patch roll-out process. According to Microsoft, 90% of the people who actually got the update notification and started the process have managed to finalize it with success. 90% is a good number if you refer to nine people out ...

If you follow the news, you most probably know by now that LG is offering free applications exclusively to LG Windows Phone 7 owners via the LG apps store inside the Marketplace. New titles were added in December and then again in January and now LG is offering four additional app titles. If last time the apps were third parties, with value of $29.2, and LG offered them all for free, this time there are four applications made by the manufacturer itself. 1. Today is an application that is based on the Panoramic screens on Windows Phone 7 to offer information about weather, news, twitter and ...

We found out something interesting related to the LG Optimus 7 handset running Windows Phone 7, namely that it runs without a battery. Well, sort of! With other devices running different operating systems, pulling the battery while this is being charged and the phone is on instantly cuts the power and the phones will turn off. With the LG Optimus 7, pulling the battery while charging will leave the device functioning. There might be an explanation involving electronic schematics: maybe the current doesn't go through the battery and then to the phone but the other way around - maybe also ...

The LG Optimus 7 handset we recently reviewed is (so far) a European device but we might see it on AT&T's network in the U.S. soon as it passed FCC with frequency bands indicating complete compatibility with the carrier. The device currently available on the market supports European bands only -- that is GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900MHz and UMTS 900 / 1900 / 2100MHz. Adding the 850MHz and 1900MHz bands for both GSM and WCDMA would make it a great U.S. candidate with AT&T that already has its sibling, the LG Quantum (aka LG Optimus 7Q) in its Windows Phone 7 line-up. The LG Optimus 7 sports a ...

We already know that one of the unique benefits of LG Windows Phone 7 devices is that the Korean manufacturer is offering 10 free apps exclusively for LG Windows Phone 7 owners. There is a dedicated section inside Marketplace called LG apps store which you can access using your LG Windows Phone 7 and that app store just got updated with new titles. The LG free software program is called hAPPiness and it now officially features Voice to Text - which we reviewed earlier plus an additional two new applications that entered the store by rotation: Fortune Coins (augmented reality game for ...
