LG posted on Facebook earlier this week about an upcoming patch for its dual-core Optimus 2X. While there's some media player tweaks to look forward to, the big draw, at least for users who have found themselves affected, is the promised fixes for the seemingly random freezes and resets plaguing the smartphone. LG has since offered a little more detail into its plans, letting us know when users in different areas can expect the update to arrive. Initially, all we knew is that the first wave of the update would occur quite soon, "starting mid to end of May". Engadget recently got the chance ...

When LG launched the LG Optimus 2X smartphone back on December 16, they announced it as the world's first dual-core smartphone and it looks like they've got just the right award to prove it. The Korean smartphone manufacturer received the Guinness World Records Certificate for the LG Optimus 2X, "the first mobile phone to use a dual core processor". Of course ever since, in just less than five months, we tend to look at dual core smartphones as a rule, a must and a standard but, as always, there has to be a first and that's what Optimus 2X was. Google Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread is bringing screenshot support as we told you at the beginning of March and phones running the latest build of the Google platform will be able to take advantage of the feature via applications utilizing the new feature. According to IntoMobile, the T-Mobile G2x -- that is the Magenta version of the LG Optimus 2X -- is capable of taking screenshots right out of the box. The combination used to achieve this is very Apple iPhone-like: taking a screen grab is as easy as holding down the Power and the Home buttons. This is also valid for the LG Optimus 2X. ...

If you ever wondered how the LG Optimus 2X compares to the HTC Sensation (ex-Pyramid) in terms of 1080p video recording, there's a video comparison showing the two smartphones in action. The LG Optimus 2X scored a 3 out of 5 in our review and as far as video capture was concerned, we found that the lens quality could have been better but despite "highlights certainly got blown out once or twice, overall the video recording is quite usable". The HTC Sensation was just launched and the manufacturer refers to it as the multimedia superphone. Check out the below video to see how they compare ...

Korean manufacturer LG promised that the Optimus 2X dual-core smartphone will be updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread -- currently it ships with Android 2.2. Froyo -- and now, courtesy of LG Denmark, we find out about the upgrade plans. Both the question and the answer are pictured above and it looks like owners will have to wait at least two months -- and we're being optimistic as it states June-July -- if the info is to be believed. The Optimus 2X was launched on December 16 and even if it wasn't available at that date, getting Gingerbread six or seven months after its announcement is a ...

LG's Optimus 2X is all but set to make its State-side debut, wearing the facade of the T-Mobile G2X. The Tegra-2-powered smartphone has already been spotted in what we assume is its final retail packaging, suggesting that it's ready to go as soon as T-Mobile decides to start up sales. So far, the going rumor has been that the G2X would hit retail on April 20, which seemed perfectly reasonable. Perhaps that information was wrong, or T-Mobile's plans have changed, because today a leaked schedule has surfaced showing the G2X arriving on April 15. The timetable came into the hands of Android ...

The LG Optimus 2X is one of the first Android phones to boast a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 1GHz processor with an impressive eight-core GeForce graphics processing unit to boot. We're talking top of-the-line hardware in this smartphone, although unfortunately this particular model doesn't support any North American 3G or 4G connectivity. The specs still sound pretty awesome and we expect to see a very quick device, but is LG's customized version of Android 2.2 up to the task? Read on for our full review of the LG Optimus 2X! T-Mobile has launched the LG Optimus 2X as the T-Mobile G2x bringing the 1GHz Tegra2 SOC to Magenta. With no other release date in sight except the April 20 rumor which we hear earlier, we'll stick with it for the moment. This even more so that the retail packaging of the upcoming T-Mobile dual-core smartphone has surfaced on the internet presented as a white box with the image of the device on it. Being so, the April 20 date could be a plausible one for the launch and we could even see an earlier release now that everything looks to be on track. As a reminder, it should sport a 1GHz ...

This video goes over all of the added customizations and software bundles that have been added to the LG Optimus 2X. This European unlocked version comes with a number of added programs that don't follow the device's normal language settings and only appear in a single Asian language that we don't understand. You've also got some cool LG Live Wallpapers as well as LG designed widgets. For some reason the clock widget (which nicely includes weather) will update to show the correct time while the device clock does not. This is because the device clock is not set to sync automatically with a ...

Here's our hardware tour of the LG Optimus 2X. It's got a pretty nice and slim size and weight at 63.2x123.9x10.9mm and 139g. It comes with LG's flavor of Google Android 2.2.1 and a dual core 32bit NVIDIA Tegra 2 250, 1000MHz CPU with 512MiB RAM. In terms of storage it's got 8 GB of internal storage. The 4" 480x800 color IPS TFT LCD looks pretty good, and you've also got HDMI video out support and 3.5mm audio jack. The Optimus 2X is a bit lacking in the 3G bands support with only GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS900, and UMTS2100. Of course you've also got Bluetooth, WLAN, GPS, A-GPS, ...

The LG Optimus 2X is one of the first Android phones with a dual core Tegra 2 processor so you can expect it to be pretty fast. This video goes through a few Benchmark tests such as Quadrant Standard, Smartbench 2011 and Linpack. Quadrant Standard took a few tries before it would show any results without crashing, but once it worked, we saw quite a good score of 2480. The Smartbench 2011 score came out to respectable, but not terribly impressive 2259. Linpack's MFLOPS benchmark turned out to be 36.915. We also took a look at the web browser to see how quickly it could render web pages. The ...

Storage capacity is at 8GB, expandable with microSD, and it's got 8-megapixel rear and 1.3-megapixel front cameras. While the main camera will handle 1080p recording, there are apparently still some performance issues, ...
