The LG Optimus 2X is one of the first Android phones to boast a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 1GHz processor with an impressive eight-core GeForce graphics processing unit to boot. We're talking top of-the-line hardware in this smartphone, although unfortunately this particular model doesn't support any North American 3G or 4G connectivity. The specs still sound pretty awesome and we expect to see a very quick device, but is LG's customized version of Android 2.2 up to the task? Read on for our full review of the LG Optimus 2X! T-Mobile has launched the LG Optimus 2X as the T-Mobile G2x bringing the 1GHz Tegra2 SOC to Magenta. With no other release date in sight except the April 20 rumor which we hear earlier, we'll stick with it for the moment. This even more so that the retail packaging of the upcoming T-Mobile dual-core smartphone has surfaced on the internet presented as a white box with the image of the device on it. Being so, the April 20 date could be a plausible one for the launch and we could even see an earlier release now that everything looks to be on track. As a reminder, it should sport a 1GHz ...

This video goes over all of the added customizations and software bundles that have been added to the LG Optimus 2X. This European unlocked version comes with a number of added programs that don't follow the device's normal language settings and only appear in a single Asian language that we don't understand. You've also got some cool LG Live Wallpapers as well as LG designed widgets. For some reason the clock widget (which nicely includes weather) will update to show the correct time while the device clock does not. This is because the device clock is not set to sync automatically with a ...

Here's our hardware tour of the LG Optimus 2X. It's got a pretty nice and slim size and weight at 63.2x123.9x10.9mm and 139g. It comes with LG's flavor of Google Android 2.2.1 and a dual core 32bit NVIDIA Tegra 2 250, 1000MHz CPU with 512MiB RAM. In terms of storage it's got 8 GB of internal storage. The 4" 480x800 color IPS TFT LCD looks pretty good, and you've also got HDMI video out support and 3.5mm audio jack. The Optimus 2X is a bit lacking in the 3G bands support with only GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS900, and UMTS2100. Of course you've also got Bluetooth, WLAN, GPS, A-GPS, ...

The LG Optimus 2X is one of the first Android phones with a dual core Tegra 2 processor so you can expect it to be pretty fast. This video goes through a few Benchmark tests such as Quadrant Standard, Smartbench 2011 and Linpack. Quadrant Standard took a few tries before it would show any results without crashing, but once it worked, we saw quite a good score of 2480. The Smartbench 2011 score came out to respectable, but not terribly impressive 2259. Linpack's MFLOPS benchmark turned out to be 36.915. We also took a look at the web browser to see how quickly it could render web pages. The ...

LG's Optimus 2X has been available for pre-order since January, and with those stocks arriving late last month, it's not surprising that the phone is now up for sale at European smartphone retailers, sporting a price that works out to about $720. The premiere dual-core smartphone, the Optimus 2X packs a Tegra 2 under its hood, with each core running at 1GHz, a 512MB of RAM. Storage capacity is at 8GB, expandable with microSD, and it's got 8-megapixel rear and 1.3-megapixel front cameras. While the main camera will handle 1080p recording, there are apparently still some performance issues, ...

We just got the new LG P990 Optimus 2X Android smartphone. This one is the first with a dual-core 1Ghz Nvidia Tegra processor, so we should expect some impressive performance. Here's our unboxing video. You'll see it only comes with a regular microUSB cable, headphones, and charger. Unfortunately there was no HDMI cable in the box. The box and packaging itself was pretty nicely designed though with varnished sections against a matte black in order to make certain things stand out. It was also interesting to see the device's encasing in an angled position. Most unboxings reveal the devices ...

Two unannounced Samsung handsets have just received Bluetooth certification: one is very likely to be the 4.3-inch Samsung Stealth V (i.e. SCH-i510) leaked back in November, and the other may be the followup to Verizon's Fascinate, a.k.a. the Samsung Galaxy S 2. We say "may be the followup" because at this point all we have to go on are a model number and a little bit of educated guesswork. Known for now as SCH-i559, this Bluetooth 3.0-compliant device hasn't yet been seen in any other databases, leading us to believe that it's still a few months out; even Samsung's Android-powered LTE ...

T-Mobile's version of the LG Optimus 2x, Announced just a few days ago at CTIA, looks to have made an appaerance today on the FCC as the LG P999DW. Passing through certification, it sports 850/1900/AWS which matches up nicely with T-Mobile USA's frequency bands, and is compatible with AT&T's as well. While it could possibly be another device rather than T-Mobile's G2x, the model number falls into line nicely with the Optimus 3D being P920, Optimus Black P970, and Optimus 2X P990. Featuring a dual-core 1GHz Tegra2 CPU, four-inch WVGA screen, 8GB of internal storage, eight-megapixel rear ...

It took T-Mobile three months since the original LG Optimus 2X was launched mid-December but nevertheless -- and according to previous reports and unofficial confirmation -- the carrier officially launched the device as the T-Mobile G2x. The smartphone is equipped with a 4G-capable radio and is now part of the carrier's G-series devices. Just like its European cousin it sports a 1GHz Tegra2 processor, 4-inch WVGA screen, 8GB of internal memory expandable with up to 32GB using the microSD card slot, eight-megapixel rear camera with 1080p recording capability, 1.3-megapixel front camera for ...

The T-Mobile G2x from LG promises to be a big hit on the soon-to-be engulfed carrier, and we were able to spend a few minutes with the first (and perhaps on of the only) dual-core handset to hit Magenta. As expected, everything felt pretty speedy, and we were especially imperssed with the video demo we saw: not only was the playback super smooth, hopping around from scene to scene was almost instantaneous. Network speeds felt zippy as well, although some of that is due to the fact that T-Mobile has one or more HSPA+ minisites at the show. Overall we were impressed by our short demo, ...

If AT&T's plans for T-Mobile pan out, the company will end up using the portions of the radio spectrum currently serving T-Mobile's customers to introduce its own LTE offering. While this transition would still be years off, you can't help but look at new T-Mobile smartphones and wonder, "will I even be able to use this in a couple years?" Sure, many of us can't wait to upgrade to the latest phones whenever we get the chance, but there are still plenty of smartphone buyers who are in it for the long haul. T-Mobile may be planning ahead to avoid this obsolescence, as the company's published ...

LG's Optimus 2X made a name for itself when announced as the first dual-core smartphone late last year. The Tegra 2-powered handset has since been waiting for its release, which it's finally set to make this month in Europe. We've seen evidence that the phone is likely coming to T-Mobile in the US as the carrier's G2x. Not that looks like a certainty, as we've spotted a couple displays at CTIA promoting the model. It's a bit sad that since the 2X was announced in December, its dual-core CPU no longer seems like the achievement it did then. After all, now we're looking at phones with ...

About two weeks ago we told you that the LG Optimus 2X, released back at the end of December last year, will be carrier by T-Mobile as the T-Mobile G2x. No further info was available at that time but now TmoNews tells us it should be out in approximately one month. April 20 is the day rumored for T-Mobile to release the LG G2x and the device will not only be announced at the upcoming CTIA but according to rumors, the April 20 date will also be confirmed. The Optimus 2X sports a 1GHz Tegra2 processor, 4-inch WVGA screen, 8GB of internal memory, 8-megapixel rear camera with 1080p recording ...

The 2011 CTIA Wireless expo doesn't officially kick off until tomorrow, but today's Pre-Conference has still been an exciting way to ramp up for the event. We've learned a lot today about upcoming smartphones, but more than anything we've seen indications about what's still on the menu for the rest of CTIA. Take a look at what we've come across so far, and what we're still waiting to see: Sprint announced its WiMAX-enabled Nexus S this morning, already up for pre-orders with its retail partner Best Buy. Besides the 4G support, there's nothing changed from its 3G T-Mobile cousin, but why ...

Officially launched back in December, LG Optimus 2X will be rolled out in Europe this month and according to rumors it will arrive to T-Mobile as the T-Mobile G2x. It's not uncommon for devices to get rooted before general availability -- think Motorola Atrix 4G -- and so, a MoDaCo user reports rooting the upcoming Optimus 2X with the SuperOneClick utility from XDA Developers. Looks like the root is permanent and you don't have to re-root every time you restart your device. Additionally, a system and bootloader dump has been posted to XDA so expect to see some custom ROMs soon for this ...

Sony Ericsson's PlayStation Suite, as we heard at the end of January, will be able to deliver PlayStation content to Android devices as well as new titles developed for the platform. nVidia and Sony announced that PlayStation games will be available for Tegra powered smartphones -- which at this particular moment are the Motorola Atrix 4G, LG Optimus 2X and the 9003 variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II, with hopefully more coming this year. PlayStation games will not only be available outside the platform for the first time but Sony also plans on bringing several PlayStation 2 titles to the ...

Launched mid-February, we've had our hands-on with the smartphone at this year's Mobile World Congress. The device is on pre-order over at Clove and goes for £492.00 (approximately $795) unlocked but once a carrier picks it up the price will surely be lower. First stock is expected June 1st. We've already seen some of the potential from the combination of high-performance rendering engines and modern smartphone hardware. Last year, Dungeon Defenders introduced us to Unreal Engine 3 running on Android devices, which was more than enough to impress us. Now we've got the chance to look at what's possible when you pipe that software through a dual-core device like LG's Optimus 2X. Epic Citadel was created as a tech demo to show off the capabilities of the Unreal Engine on iOS hardware, released last September. Unlike the use of the engine in Dungeon Defenders, Citadel features ...

Watching what XDA does to new devices is like witnessing a car getting stripped and placed on concrete blocks in a bad part of town. They really don't move on until they've extracted every last usable bit. In this case, they've been dissecting the dual-core processor equipped LG Optimus 2X. We already hooked you up with a clock/weather widget, standard wallpapers, and ringtones from the device; well, now it's time for some Live Wallpapers. Ghost99k, from XDA, pulled four Live Wallpapers for use on other Android 2.2 (or higher) handsets. One of them simply animates with falling snow, while ...

The clock & weather combo widget from the LG Optimus 2X Android-powered smartphone has been pulled from a system dump of the device, allowing other Android users to enable it on their daily drivers as well. As usual, the extracting comes by way of XDA, but there's quite an annoying limitation at the moment. Although the widget takes up only half the screen visually, the version out of XDA gobbles up all slots on the Home screen, leaving no room for other widgets or app shortcuts. Luckily, if you're using a customizable Home screen replacement, like LauncherPro or ADWLauncher, you're able ...

LG's Optimus 2X, the first dual-core smartphone on the market, will ship in a white version come February, according to the Korean manufacturer. The regular black model went on sale in LG's home country yesterday. Ever since Apple's highly-publicized difficulties with manufacturing a white iPhone 4, the color has attained a certain air of mystique, as if Cupertino's troubles -- reportedly related to the camera -- were indicative of an industry-wide challenge. Incidentally, the white iPhone 4 will likely begin shipping in early spring. More LG news: Android Central has obtained an image ...
