All done getting introduced to HTC's new Desire 816 thanks to our hands-on video? All right, then: you're all set to see how the 816 measures-up to HTC's flagship One series, and we laid them all out at MWC 2014 to give you a proper sense of scale. Make no mistake: just because the Desires may be more budget-focused devices doesn't mean that the Ones will dwarf the 816. This guy is still a phablet, after all. And while it may not have the sleek metal design of the Ones, its straightforward, sharp look makes the 816 attractive in its own right. Take a step back, and you might just mistake ...

We just showed you how the new Xperia M2 from Sony looks in comparison to HTC's midrange One Mini, but the M2 wasn't the only new Xperia brought with it to the MWC this morning; we also got the Xperia Z2 flagship. Sensing the opportunity for a logical extension to that M2/One Mini comparison, we decided to whip out a trusty HTC One to see how that phone measures against the Z2. Really, we're looking at a lot of differences here; the screen resolutions may be the same, but after that things start going down their own respective paths. Arguably, the most significant point of departure ...

MWC is just around the corner, and the big names involved have been scheduling press events to share news of their latest products. Companies like Samsung, Sony, and Nokia have distributed their invitations, but there's been one name absent: HTC. Earlier this week, HTC execs said that invites to its presumed M8 launch would head out in about two weeks, meaning MWC is out of the running – this will likely be an HTC-only show. But then this afternoon HTC posted a short teaser message to Twitter, talking about news arriving next Tuesday, February 18. Is this an early look at the M8? Sadly, ...

Motorola may be the name to beat when it comes to offering smartphone users colorful configuration options, but other OEMs have dabbled with the idea of brightening up phones with their own complimentary color schemes. HTC, for instance, may be all about neutral tones and metal these days, but it wasn't that long ago when we saw some bold two-tone looks for the company's 8S Windows Phone model. Now we're learning about some new custom color options HTC is making available, though this time not for a phone, as HTC introduces its custom Double Dip case. The Double Dip is a multi-colored hard ...

The Google Play Edition version of the HTC One has received its Android 4.4.2 KitKat treat mid-December last year, and the European unlocked model, alongside other versions, including some American carrier variants, have started getting the refresh over-the-air at the end of last month. According to recent user reports, the Indian HTC One is currently getting the same update to Android 4.4.2 over-the-air. We're looking at a 330MB file than brings the same enhancements like in the case of the European model -- meaning the OS version bump, cloud printing service, new Bluetooth profiles -- ...

After a brief lull in news about KitKat updates for some of our favorite Android flagships, new tidbits started arriving earlier today, as we learned about the first Galaxy S 4 Android 4.4 updates to reach South Korea. Aside from the GS4, the other Android model that's been demanding a lot of attention for its own KitKat update status has been the HTC One. Late last month, we heard from HTC about the delays it was facing, and how despite delivering updates to US carriers for certification, it could still be a few weeks before everything was approved and on its way out the door. Sprint got ...

Seeing as we just looked at some pretty comprehensive breakdowns of what to expect from both the Samsung Galaxy S 5 and Apple iPhone 6, it seems only fitting that we now take a little time to talk about the other smartphone that's approaching the same kind of heightened pre-launch interest, HTC's M8. Overnight, we brought you news about how HTC could finally be heading down the virtual button route, and now we're hearing a little about the company's plans for the handset's external design. We've seen fan renders, we've seen 3D printed stand-ins, and we've seen what may be cases for the M8, ...

Mere hours ago we told you about the unexpected availability of HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat updates in Canada, despite HTC's apology earlier this week that it wouldn't be able to deliver the software in the US and Canada within the 90 day window it had set out to. The company won points for being open about its failings, and it's not like the update was supposed to take that much longer to arrive. Earlier this evening, when we got word of that Canadian release, we wondered if any of the US carriers might follow suit with some unexpectedly early availability of their own. As if it was ...

No, we're not having Canada Fridays here at Pocketnow (is that a thing? That should be a thing), but we've got a little follow-up to a story from earlier this week that hails to us from the Great White North, as we check out HTC's ongoing progress to make Android 4.4 KitKat updates available for its 2013 flagship, the HTC One. As we told you on Wednesday, HTC announced that it wouldn't be able to quite hit its goal of having HTC One KitKat updates out everywhere by the end of January. It made a good effort, but as things came down to the wire, it became clear to HTC leadership that the ...

If 2013 is of any indication, HTC should play the same card in 2014 too. On February 19 (note, before MWC 2013) HTC announced the One flagship and on July 18 the company unveiled its smaller sibling, the HTC One Mini. This year, the HTC M8 (the One+, One 2, or another name) is expected to be unveiled sometime during the first quarter of the year, bearing the model number 0P6B120 which we initially heard about back in November. According to @evleaks, the 0P6B (only first part of the model number for the M8) will be followed to the market by a certain 0P8B (our note, we're likely looking ...

Back at the start of November, immediately following the launch of the Nexus 5 and introduction of Android 4.4 KitKat, HTC announced its own plans for KitKat update distribution. For the flagship HTC One, the company laid out the order the update would hit certain variants: GPe first, then developer edition, then unlocked, and finally hitting the phones in the hands of US carrier-affiliated users within 90 days... which we're coming right up against. Unfortunately, HTC isn't quite going to make that deadline, as it explains in a statement today. Don't get us wrong; HTC has done pretty well ...

While Android 4.4.2 is already powering the Google Play Edition HTC One, and French carrier SFR estimated that its own One -- hence some carrier variants -- will most likely get the refresh by mid-February, American carrier variants are still waiting for the operators' approval as far as the software update is concerned. Unlocked HTC One devices in Europe are getting the Android 4.4.2 refresh as we speak. The software version you should expect is 4.19.401.8 and the update weighs about 310MB. It should bump your OS version number all the way up to 4.2.2 while bringing some security ...
