If you have an HTC One mini 2 (aka One M8 mini), like we do, you are wondering when exactly will you receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, just like your friends rocking the One M8. Currently, the One mini 2 is running Android 4.4.2, and it sure looks like that's what it will stay one. In October of last year, HTC confirmed that the device will get Lollipop at one point down the road, but now it has been confirmed that the HTC One mini 2 Lollipop update won't happen. The Taiwanese phone maker said on Twitter, replying to a customer inquiry on the refresh, that it "determined that ...

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha was announced mere hours ago as one of Samsung's first metal-clad smartphones, which had many of us immediately comparing it to the other metallic midranger in the room: the HTC One mini 2. As it turns out, Samsung Galaxy Alpha vs HTC One mini 2 is actually a great comparison for a variety of reasons -- let's dig in. While specs don't represent real-world performance (as we've found out in many past examples), on that front these two phones are nearly as even as can be, with five spec wins for the One mini 2, and four for the Galaxy Alpha. The One mini 2 beats the ...

Verizon just announced the HTC One Remix, but this isn't some brand new offering from HTC. Instead, Verizon flexed its carrier muscle to bring a new name to the HTC One mini 2, a phone we saw the manufacturer announce back in May. So while it's only just now coming to the States (sales at Verizon get started tomorrow), this is one handset we've already spent a lot of time interacting with and forming some opinions about. If you've got it in your mind to maybe stop by a Verizon store tomorrow and pick this fella up, go in armed with full knowledge of what to expect by having our One mini 2 ...

The HTC One mini 2 has been official for a couple months by now, and it's seemed like an open secret for nearly as long that the phone would eventually find a home at Verizon as the HTC One Remix. The question's felt less like one of “if” and more of “when,” and earlier this week we heard that the phone could be just days away, going up for sale this Thursday, July 24. This morning Verizon has gone ahead and confirmed just that, announcing plans for the start of One Remix sales. Beginning tomorrow, the One Remix will be available for purchase both online and at Verizon retail ...

It's been over two months since we saw HTC introduce its One mini 2, and it wasn't long after the handset went official that rumors started putting two and two together and worked out that the HTC One Remix that had been teased for Verizon was likely to be a carrier-renamed version of the One mini 2. But even with that mystery solved, when might the Remix actually arrive, ready for sale? A couple weeks back we saw Verizon appear to be warming up for the handset's release, as a promo video went live a little ahead of schedule, and now we get word that the wait may nearly be over, with a new ...

Continuing on with our post-announcement spec comparisons between the G3 Beat and other similar phones (the last one being between it and the Galaxy S5 mini), we've put together LG G3 Beat vs HTC One mini 2. It's a similar story to the last comparison -- the G3 Beat just isn't a compelling hardware package when pitted against its closest competitors, but we stress that hardware doesn't necessarily equal stellar performance. The two phones are equal in most categories, with the One mini 2 winning out with its screen, storage capacity, front and rear-facing camera, and WiFi bands. It also ...

The HTC One Remix has leaked a number of times as of yet, as Verizon's carrier-specific One mini 2. Today comes yet another leak, though this one's a bit unconventional -- it's made possible by Big Red itself, which happened to post an HTC One Remix promo video prematurely. While there isn't quite a boatload of information to garner from this video (couple that with the fact that we weren't able to watch it), there's some means of sly confirmation of what we think we already know. The video was titled "HTC One Remix | Demo | Verizon Wireless," and had the following as its YouTube ...

The HTC One mini 2 is what its name implies, a miniature version of the flagship HTC One M8 - at least it tries to be. That statement carries a lot more than one might surmise. I've previously talked about how people assume and expect a "mini" version of a similarly named flagship to be a miniaturized version of the same -- and are disappointed to discover that it is not. The same is true of the HTC One mini 2 -- except for the disappointment. The HTC One mini 2 is an aluminum-clad smartphone with a super-premium feel, running a great build of Android, and has amazing built-in sound. ...

Last month, HTC launched its One Mini 2, a scaled down, 4.5-inch, 720p version of its metal-bodied flagship. Right before that new arrived, however, we started hearing whispers of a new HTC handset for Verizon, the HTC One Remix. It wasn't long before we were putting two and two together, and rumors quickly attempted to identify the Remix as Verizon's version of the Mini 2. Since then we've had the opportunity to check out a few renders, but we haven't heard anything since the very start of June. Just when might the One Remix become available? We're not quite there yet, but a recent FCC ...

Over the past couple weeks, we've heard about more than a few Androids rumored to be in the works for Verizon in the US, with @evleaks providing many of the details. He's already told us to expect the carrier to pick up Sony's Xperia Z2 Tablet, and informed us that while other carriers would get the HTC One mini 2, Verizon would be renaming the handset to the HTC One Remix. We've even had a couple opportunities to check out One Remix imagery, but today not only brings us the highest quality Remix render to date, but brings along a shot of the Z2 Tablet with Verizon's branding to keep it ...

The first time we heard about the HTC One Remix, about two weeks ago, we knew it will eventually land on Verizon's line-up, but we didn't know exactly what the phone was. Now, according to @evleaks, we're getting answers, as the HTC One Remix will allegedly be Verizon's HTC One Mini 2. While the leaked press render below seems to conceal something (probably the time and date on Sense, which usually hints at the announcement date -- or some other sensitive data), we can definitely recognize the phone, this time, with the Verizon logo apparently replacing HTC's own branding at the bottom of ...

The last few years have not been the best for HTC. Its market share, revenues, and profits have all been sliding while its largest competitor, Samsung, has been raking in more sales, profits, and the like. Such has been the case for most smartphone manufacturers (who are not Apple and Samsung, of course), but HTC's journey, in particular, makes for an interesting story. Despite its several fumbles and missteps since 2011, it still has a massive, die-hard following around its smartphones. Whether it's due to the elegant hardware and design, ultra high standards in build quality, or simply ...

I'll be the first to admit I was a little hard on the One M8's camera abilities and HTC for its decision to stick with only 4.1-megapixels in its flagship smartphone's camera. I'm not here to beat a long-dead horse. I've explained multiple times that 4.1-megapixels is simply a gross camera resolution in a day and age where QHD displays are common on laptops and tablets and 4K televisions are a increasingly common thing. Even today, while I'm more impressed by the M8's camera than I ever thought I'd be, I'm still turned-off by its output resolution more than anything. The absolute best ...

A mini, metal One M8. That’s the idea with HTC’s new One mini 2: miniature yes, but with a fit and finish meant to make it impossible to ignore its flagship ancestry. So if the larger One M8 caught your eye but proved too big for your hand, is the One mini 2 a viable alternative, or has HTC made too many sacrifices on the road to a smaller footprint? That's what we aim to find out with the HTC One mini 2 vs HTC One M8 comparison video below. We take a tour of each phone's anatomy, from fit and finish to software to the wildly divergent cameras. You'll learn what you'll gain and what ...

HTC already offers a beautifully crafted Android smartphone with the One M8 – but for all its beauty, it sure is big. So for those who put a premium on pocket space (or pocket change) comes a smaller, cheaper alternative. The new HTC One mini 2 hits shelves this summer with a mission to bring the One M8’s high-end user experience to the midsize category. But the landscape of mini smartphones is a pockmarked one, cratered with cut corners and dotted with disappointment. Is the One mini 2 truly something different, or just another compromise in disguise? Let's find out. • Video ...

Now that the HTC One mini 2 is official (our hands-on), it's time to start talking availability. Information regarding U.S. carrier launch partners isn't too clear quite yet, so leaks are still steadily streaming out. The HTC One Remix may be the Verizon variant of the device, and today we're learning more about a possible commercial launch. The leak shows the alleged Remix in blue, covered up with a case. Given that blue isn't an officially announced color of the One mini 2, that's a leak in itself. In the dock, you can clearly make out the messaging app exclusive to Verizon devices, ...

What exactly qualifies as a "remix?" How deluded do you have to be to believe in all these "Prime" rumors? Why are we so transfixed by the notion of lasers on smartphones, and so easily taken in by a smartphone commercial, if it's shot like a trailer for Inception? We tackle these questions, and the biggest announcement section in the history of the podcast, in episode 096 of the Pocketnow Weekly. No, that's not bragging – it's just an unavoidable symptom of a month packed with unboxings, hands-ons, product launches, and reviews (both forthcoming and already-published). But even in the ...

HTC has been doing its darnedest to keep us busy lately, between dropping the One mini 2 on us and all this impossible-to-ignore prep work for new One M8 color options. Yesterday we looked into one of the latest HTC rumors, as a trademark for the HTC One Remix was discovered, alongside the claim that his model was destined for Verizon. We spouted-out a few theories at the time, including the idea that “remix” might refer to audio enhancements, much in the vein of Sprint's own new M8 variant. “Not so,” chimes the source who first brought this One Remix name to our attention, as the ...

In case you missed the announcement, the rumored HTC One mini 2 finally broke cover this morning, and it's just what the rumors said it would be: a pint-sized version of the company's well-received One M8 smartphone. Aesthetically, the One mini 2 is everything you'd expect from a mini metal One M8 – but true to form, HTC has made some sacrifices on the spec side. Under the hood, we're looking at a quad-core Snapdragon 400 (MSM8926) at 1.2GHz, leaning on a gig of RAM and 16GB of storage, with MicroSD cards up to 128GB supported. The display is a 4.5 inch LCD at 720p, the battery a 2100 ...

While it's suffered nowhere near as much early exposure as its higher-end sibling, HTC's newest product has been breaking cover in bits and pieces since earlier this month. Today, the company finally took the wraps off of the "lite" version of its well-received HTC One M8, this time eschewing the latter's esoteric codename for the more straightforward "HTC One mini 2." Like its 2013 predecessor, the One mini 2 more closely resembles its big brother in looks than in specs. As we expected, a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 sits under the hood, backed up by 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage ...

When a smartphone manufacturer release a “mini” version of one of its flagship models, we fully expect some features to fall by the wayside. Sure, it would be nice if the only things that changed were handset dimensions and screen size, but this is the reality of the market. With the HTC One M8 mini (or One mini 2, depending on how it launches), we've already been anticipating some places where it might fail to mirror its big brother: it seems we're not getting another Duo Camera, for instance. Now a new rumor tries to reel-in our expectations a little bit more, spelling-out some of ...

The HTC One mini 2 will surely arrive, sooner or later, that's for sure, and that's about the only sure thing we know so far, judging by the company's last year release schedule and policy. Yes, we've seen alleged press renders leak, and we've also heard chatter about its purported specs (4.5-inch 720p screen, Snapdragon 400 SoC, 13-megapixel camera replacing), but until HTC officially unveils it, it's still in the "rumor" category. That, however, didn't stop two retailers from Finland from listing the device, and tentatively leaking the HTC One mini 2 pricing. Keep in mind that usually ...

Last week we check out one of the first supposed renders of the HTC One mini 2 (back then being referred to as the One M8 mini), but we weren't exactly buying it, noticing some irregularities that pointed to a possible composite image. But then this morning we shared with you a much more legitimate-looking render, depicting the One mini 2 in three color options. Those neutral-and-gold shades may be how the phone ultimately arrives (mirroring the One M8's options), but what if HTC throws a little extra color into the mix, too? That's what we're wondering now, as we check out the first ...

There was little to no doubt that we'll see a mini version of the HTC One (M8), just as we are sure that the Galaxy S5 Mini is well on its way. However, despite the obvious M8 mini name we expected, we've recently learned that HTC might go with something different: HTC One mini 2. The information landed from @evleaks, the same way as the render you see above. We're allegedly looking at the HTC One mini 2 in the leaked press shot above, and, straight from the beginning, three things will strike you as obvious: 1. it looks exactly like the bigger brother, the M8, 2. it comes in three color ...
