Some very interesting things are happening in mobile design these days. And I don't mean interesting as a euphemism for weird, like we've seen from elaborate designs such as the Kyocera Echo, where things ended up being more different than actually useful. Instead, we're seeing designs like the LG G2, where the phone manages to free up space around edges – and thereby allowing for a larger bezel – by moving button hardware around back. It's totally unlike what we're used to, and while it has its drawbacks (as we discuss in our new G2 review), it seems to be a largely successful idea. ...

By now, we've seen the HTC One Max six ways from Sunday; its most recent appearance put the handset up against the Galaxy Note II and 3. Underneath all that, a mystery's been trying to work itself out: just what SoC would this phablet run? While early rumors and frankly, common sense, suggested that we'd be seeing a Snapdragon 800, more recently there's been talk that the One Max might go a different route, running either an S4 Pro or maybe a 600. Today, a new rumor attempts to get to the bottom of why HTC isn't just giving the phone an 800. Supposedly, supply issues could be forcing HTC's ...

The last time we've seen the HTC One max, or at least a device claimed to be the upcoming phablet, was on Monday, when we got a closer look at its fingerprint reader on the back, just below the camera. Today, we get some phablet p0rn, as the upcoming HTC gigantophone is pictured alongside its main competitors, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and last year's Note II. As you can see in the image above, the HTC device looks to be larger than the brand new Note 3, and that's not only because of the BoomSound speakers on top and bottom. The screen itself is also, apparently, larger, rumored to be ...

The HTC One Max sure isn't shy about posing for the camera, and earlier today we brought you the latest pics of the hardware to arrive. While the general layout looks like a lock, we've been hearing some conflicting rumors about internal hardware choices, and last week the idea landed that the phablet might not run a Snapdragon 800, but something more along the lines of an S4 Pro, instead. That's not particularly great news, but one way or another, we'd like to get it either confirmed and learn to live with it, or see it rejected and get back to guessing. Yet another new One Max leak ...

The HTC One Max, which recently popped up again, after its branding has been confirmed via a leak, will most probably feature a fingerprint scanner, and, according to the leaked images we've seen so far, it will be on the back of the device, opposed to the one on the front of the new iPhone 5S. This latest set of images seems to reconfirm the scanner theory, but, seem to contradict recent spec-related chatter. Some reports claim a Snapdragon 800 processor, while others claim it will be powered by an S4 CPU. A full HD screen is expected to grace the front, 2GB of RAM under the hood, 16GB ...

Samsung is up next as the FCC has received yet another Windows Phone for approval, and this one seems as if its going to AT&T. We then talk about the HTC One Max since hey, we're still waiting for it, and leaks in photos continue to surface. We end today's show ...

There's one fewer Romanian on this week's podcast, and we're no longer hovering over a precarious microphone stand made of empty shoeboxes and trash cans in a European hotel room - but that doesn't mean this latest episode of the Pocketnow Weekly is lacking in charm. On the contrary, we've called in a silver-tongued devil from Honduras and a smooth-talking geocacher from middle America to provide two very different perspectives on some very high-visibility smartphones. That's right: it's Apple week. That special time of year where iOS makes its way to the top of our rundown and instigates ...

There's been no shortage of leaks when it comes to HTC's upcoming phablet, the One Max. We've had the opportunity to check out a number of pictures, including an early render, as well as images appearing to reveal the handset's rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Most recently, we've been getting confirmation for the phone's name. Today we have a couple new pics to add to the assortment we've already seen, comparing the One Max to some original Ones. Update: Better imagery now available. Unfortunately, these shots are quite low resolution, so we've had to enlarge them just to get a usable ...

Those expecting the HTC One Max phablet, the rumored phone, at IFA 2013 were disappointed to see it not show up. Despite the fact that it would have made all the sense in the world for HTC to announce it at the Berlin show, you know, to compete with Samsung's Note 3, the Taiwanese company had a very poor presence at the Funkturm-show. However, the leaks continue. In addition to what we've already seen and heard about a future possible inflated HTC One, we're now seeing what is claimed to be the branding of the alleged upcoming phablet. All small caps for "htc one max" is apparently the ...

The world, and us, was secretly hoping for an HTC One Max unveiling at IFA 2013, but unfortunately that didn't happen. The Taiwanese company had a very poor presence on the show floor, but is apparently preparing to unleash its first phablet upon us, if the recent reports are to be believed. The HTC One Max has been in the headlines for quite some time, and, apparently, the HTC One Max has been reportedly confirmed as the official name of the phone. Furthermore, unconfirmed rumors are talking about the phone being "Sprint-bound". Whether we're talking about initial exclusivity, or a ...

Earlier this month, leaked images of what's apparently HTC One Max hardware revealed a curious black square on the phone's rear panel, supposedly housing a fingerprint scanner. Such scanning has been the rumor du jour for the next generation of flagships, with companies like Apple and Samsung tapped to get involved. With the One Max, however, we were less sure, and subsequent leaks didn't seem to mention any fingerprint function. Well, today we get another look at the phone's hardware – this time a dual-SIM version for China – and the fingerprint evidence is increasingly hard to ...
