If you asked me last year if I would have ever considered using a ZTE smartphone as my daily driver, I probably would have chuckled, realized you might actually be serious, then answered with a solid, "No." It's not that ZTE is a bad manufacturer. But it has never been known for high-end flagship smartphones, something I'm admittedly a sucker for. Instead, ZTE is globally known for its prepaid and budget smartphone offerings. In fact, as recent as one year ago, ZTE was in a close fight for the position as third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. It has since been surpassed by ...

If you'd told me a year ago that one of my key takeaways from CES 2014 would be a renewed interest in ZTE smartphone developments, I'd have told you to "go home, you're drunk" (which would have been a pretty timely reference back then). Nonetheless, it's true: of the many impressive sights we beheld at this year's International CES, the wares showcased by ZTE were high on my list - and if you're my kind of mobile geek, they should be high on yours too. It wasn't that long ago when we were bringing you a review of the ZTE Nubia 5, and now we're already looking at the arrival of the next Nubia models, the 5s and 5s mini. Today at the CES we went looking to check out the hardware, and ran into the Nubia 5s at ZTE's booth. The handset features what ZTE calls "professional-grade photography hardware," consisting of a 13-megapixel Sony RS sensor and an iris with f/2.0 aperture. It's capable of recording 4K video (to give you something to play back on one of the many, many 4K TVs hanging out at the CES) and offers users advanced manual ...

ZTE is one of those manufacturers that sees quite strong sales on a global level, but fails to really assert itself in our minds as a smartphone heavyweight. Still, we've been paying more attention to it lately, going hands-on with the Nubia 5, and hearing about some of the rumored next steps for the company, like its own smartwatch. With CES at the front of everyone's minds, companies are getting early starts on announcing their new lineups, and today ZTE shares its CES roster, including that rumored smartwatch. The ZTE BlueWatch will integrate a pedometer and connect over Bluetooth, and ...
