The deal between two small players in consumer mobile that made tremors in the middle of last year has just completed. As Nokia is making its comeback to smartphones later this year, it’s important to note that the company is a big name looking for big resources and a big industry to compete in. It seems those big resources will come from Alcatel-Lucent and that industry will be in telecommunications backhaul.
Nokia has successfully been able to launch a public exchange offer for Alcatel-Lucent shares and bonds in France and the US and will likely hold 76 percent of shares [...]
Are we ready to hype solidified vaporware just yet? Nope. The Nokia C1 seems to be going through developmental purgatory before our very eyes will rumors, renders and redos from the community that has wanted to see the Finnish property proud again. Eventually, we thought, it’d have to turn up something worth showing off to the public.
Supposedly, that was not the C1. The source, which also gave up renders of the C1 running Windows 10 Mobile, said that four (that is, two OS by two size) variants that were being worked on got canceled in favor of a more cutting-edge [...]
Wow, we’ve lapsed a good length of time since our last coverage of anything to do with the Lumia 830 and the Denim update. We haven’t see much progress on the special flavor of Windows Phone we saw Nokia-turned-Microsoft-turned… well, Microsoft less the Nokia acquisition work on. The second Denim update for AT&T versions of the Nokia Lumia 830 has set claws on the Windows Phone Recovery Tool [...]
Microsoft … sit down, please. We need to talk. This won’t be long.
By the time you finally lay off the 7,800 talented people you promise to, your employee rolls will settle just above 110,000. I know, you’ll do just fine: that number’s still about 60% better than it was a decade ago. But by that same time, the government of Finland will seek a supplementary budget to specifically patch the gaping hole you, Microsoft, have left in the country’s job market.
According to the Helsinki Times, you have essentially ripped the lungs out of a dying [...]
Well, you asked for it. You’ve got it. When we compared Google Maps to Apple Maps this week, we found that while Apple has come a long way from its early follies, further improvements can’t come fast enough.
This time around, we have the cartography effort from Nokia doing the rounds against Google. Both apps share a few traits: they’re on iOS and Android. They both have downloadable maps for offline use. They both have some pretty extensive databases on transit.
But as much as those similarities count for HERE, it has some major drawbacks to it. From [...]
