Which is better: physical lens doing optical zoom, or the PureView technology? We want to find out in our Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom vs Nokia 808 PureView camera comparison below. We've got two fundamentally different approaches to imaging here. While the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom employs lens and physical zoom for getting closer to your subjects, the Nokia 808 PureView (and the Nokia Lumia 1020), are using a huge 41-megapixel sensor which gives you the power to crop towards the center of the image, hence selecting a portion of the entire canvas, for zoom. We'll be updating this post shortly ...

Samsung Galaxy S 4 vs HTC One vs Apple iPhone 5 vs Nokia 808 PureView; that's the comparison we've been waiting to do ever since this year's flagship Android models came out. That also happens to be the camera comparison most requested by you. So, here it is! We've reviewed all of these phones and, at that time, we compared them against other competitors; this time it's them playing against each-other. While we know that the Apple iPhone 5 is the oldest amongst the best-sellers -- with a refresh due soon -- and the Nokia 808 PureView is more than a year old now, but still regarded by many ...

Update: By popular demand we added a side-by-side video comparison at the bottom of this post; you can check it out in addition to the raw video files. ____ We've recently compared the camera performance on the new HTC One with the imaging capabilities of the Verizon HTC Droid DNA, as well as the PureView on the Nokia Lumia 920. However, the Lumia 920 features a completely different PureView technology than the one on the 808 PureView; the Lumia 920's imaging capabilities are focused mainly on low-light performance and optical-image-stabilization, while the 808 PureView is all about ...

Those of you who have a Nokia 808 PureView are probably annoyed that an image from the Gallery can be directly shared to Facebook but not to Twitter, which requires you to fire up Nokia Social and show it off from there. There are a couple of new updates reportedly going out for the 808 PureView as well as other Belle FP2 phones which seem to address this omission. After being able to finally share directly to Twitter from the Gallery -- via the Share menu option -- the default icon for sharing turns to Twitter from Facebook. It's not a major update but definitely a welcomed one and it ...

When Damian Dinning left the company many were left wondering just what will happen to the imaging capabilities of future Nokia phones. Under Dining the Finnish manufacturer released two PureView branded products, the Nokia 808 PureView and the Nokia Lumia 920. Despite what we've been told about PureView after MWC -- the 41-megapixel camera, sensor, lens, software, the entire system as a whole -- how it worked and what exactly it was, with the addition of the Lumia 920, Nokia started slowly shifting focus up to a point where the current head of imaging at Nokia, Juha Alakarhu, tells us we ...

While our own Nokia 808 PureView has not received the latest over-the-air refresh yet, there are several reports circulating over the past couple of days of an update being pushed out to the phone. Those who reportedly received it are talking about a rather fat download, of about 420MB, applied from the computer. While the OTA update could weigh less, the refresh itself should bump the software version of Nokia Belle Feature Pack 2 from 113.010.1507 to 113.010.1508, a tiny little version-increase. While new features have not been sighted, the refresh should definitely bring some ...

The Nokia Lumia 920 is out and the Finns have decided to brand its camera as a PureView one. It is not the PureView in its 808 PureView meaning and the manufacturer explains the marketing move: if the 808 is all about lossless zooming and image oversampling, the 920 is all about low light and optical image stabilization. Nokia's camera guru, Damian Dinning, Lead Program Manager of Imaging Experience, took it to Twitter to explain the differences between the two PureView phones: Nokia 808 PureView vs. Nokia Lumia 920, in terms of differences and similarities between them. Camera ...

The Nokia 808 PureView -- winner of the GSMA Global Mobile Awards 2012 and 2012 TIPA Award for Best Imaging Innovation -- shocked everyone at this year's Mobile World Congress with its 41-megapixel camera sensor. Many understood the PureView Technology from the very beginning while others were simply considering it overkill. Nokia wanted to come up with a worthy successor to the Nokia N8, former King of Camera-phones, and the Finnish company believed that the 808 PureView would be just that. However, straight from the beginning, the 808 PureView raised eyebrows because of the platform used ...
