The myTouch 3G Slide by HTC is the first smartphone in T-Mobile's line of myTouch devices with a physical slide out QWERTY keyboard. Inside the myTouch 3G Slide is a 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor with 512MB of ROM and RAM. It is sporting a 3.4-inch color transflective TFT display with a 320x480 HVGA resolution. It comes loaded with Google Android 2.1 Eclair and is now upgradeable to Android 2.2 Froyo. The myTouch 3G Slide also features a five-megapixel camera with LED flash and autofocus. The HTC-made T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide just recently received its platform update which unfortunately is not Android 2.3 Gingerbread so you'll have to settle for the 2.2 Froyo version of Google's mobile operating system. The update is not over-the-air and what's even more strange is that it's PC-only (sorry Mac users) but it boosts your versions to Android 2.2.1 Froyo. It will bring you WiFi calling, WiFi Hotspot, USB tethering and other goodies. You'll need 25mb of User Data available on your device and the files necessary for the update. For those of you with an HTC Incredible S, myTouch 3G Slide, or Wildfire, today is a good day for you! HTC has released the kernel source code for these devices as opensource. With the code to the kernel and drivers developers and tinkerers can start building custom ROMs which can make the smartphones go faster, batteries last longer, and who knows what other sorts of cool stuff! But if you're the kind of person that would never run a custom ROM on your phone, it's good news for you, too! HTC's official Sync application for Android devices was recently updated for APAC & EU HTC Hero (Android 2.1), HTC Desire HD, Desire Z, Legend, Desire, Wildfire, HTC Aria (APAC Only) and now it's time for an update that will also support U.S. devices.
