We've seen pictures of devices purporting to be Samsung's Galaxy Note 8.0. We've even seen something crop up in some Samsung-produced photos that looked a bit Note-8.0-ish, though just a bit wonky. What we haven't had yet is a full-on official look at the tablet, though that all changes today; while Samsung has yet to announce the Note 8.0, signage has already been spotted at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This should come as a surprise to absolutely no one, as we've already heard a Samsung exec say that the Note 8.0 would be featured at the expo. The imagery up at the MWC ...

A couple days back we saw the first MWC teaser video from ASUS, touting the company's "metallic miracle" that would be coming soon. Based on the picture we recently saw of a metal-bodied ASUS Fonepad, that seemed to be what the video was referencing. Now ASUS has a new MWC teaser out, and it once again looks to be Fonepad-focused. Just like the last one, it's set in Barcelona, this time featuring a statue of Christopher Columbus. The statue's tablet suddenly starts ringing, and we see it come to life and appear to take a phone call. While the company's previous Padfone mated a separate ...

Ladies and gentlemen, the biggest, most impressive and (hopefully) interesting of all mobile-related shows throughout the year, Mobile World Congress, is about to kick off and we're here in Barcelona, Spain, to tell you all about it. And, since it's Friday again (yay!), we couldn't just skip an episode of our Live show, regardless of proper star alignment (or lack of it). However, since we're on a slightly different time zone than usual, just for this time, we'll do a tiny modification to our schedule. Mark your calendars for today, Friday, February 21, 3:00 PM EST (8:00 PM GMT / 9:00 PM ...

Of all the Nokia Lumia smartphones we're expecting to see at the Mobile World Congress, the 720 and 520 have been the most well-formed. While we have general rumors about other models like a PureView phone or a 920-ish model for Verizon, the 720 and 520 have received pretty comprehensive spec lists, and already appeared in regulatory filings. Today we get our first look at these two models, thanks to a pair of leaked pics. That's the Lumia 520 up above, and the Lumia 720 below. While these are unconfirmed leaks, this source has been quite reliable (most recently with HTC One images), so ...

We've been on-site for a full day in Barcelona, making preparations to cover one of the year's biggest mobile technology shows. Last night, we let you in on the fun and frustration of our pre-show planning on a special episode of the Pocketnow Weekly podcast. Later today, we're hosting a special MWC-focused episode of the Pocketnow Live broadcast. But right now, we'd like briefly to share our predictions, hopes, and dreams for MWC 2013. You know we're serious about this, because we stood out in the rain next to a major Barcelona landmark, and Tony wore his leather jacket. So quit yer ...

With the Mobile World Congress just about to get underway, today reports based on info from Nokia insiders claim that the company intends to highlight a number of new budget-priced phones at the expo, with the aim of stealing some business away from companies like ZTE and Huawei. At least one of these phones, according to sources, should be a cheap Windows Phone 8 model. While it's nice to hear info like this attributed to sources within the company, that hardly sounds surprising. After all, we've been tracking a number of possible models for debut at the MWC, and a couple definitely fit ...

We first caught wind of Sony's Xperia SP earlier this month, and only had a few specs at the time, like it running a Snapdragon S4. As we get closer to the Mobile World Congress, where there's a good chance Sony will announce the phone, a bunch of new rumored details on the SP are arriving. According to what we've heard, the SP runs a dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro at 1.7GHz, with the Adreno 320 that goes with it. Supposedly, the SP will feature a construction using aluminum all around its edges, with a plastic back and transparent, customizable notification bar at the bottom. The SP should ...

In the far-off reaches of Barcelona, two men fight for the right to party tell their tale. Battling narrow urban canyons, strange fast-food condiments, kielbasa-selling mobile-phone salesmen, and seagulls with voices only seagull mothers could love, they fight tooth and nail to share their story. The story of the wonders of mobile technology. You won't hear about all of the weird encounters that have greeted Anton D. Nagy and Michael Fisher since their arrival in Spain for the 2013 Mobile World Congress, but you'll definitely get a taste of what it's been like on the first harrowing day ...

Watch today's Pocketnow Daily as we talk about LG's announcement of the Optimus F5 and F7, even if we're most likely going to ask you to look elsewhere when you read the spec sheet. Then we move to Samsung news as they're rumored to showcase a new TV Discovery service with mobile devices at MWC. Then we move to Google Drive and cover all the recent enhancements that Google is offering. Ubuntu is next, there's a lot of great stuff here as it's reached developer preview stage, but not all is fun and games. We end today's show talking about the Petition to force the White House to address ...

Yesterday, we brought you some leaked renders of two of LG's many upcoming Androids, the Optimus F5 and Optimus F7 from the company's F series. At the time, all we had were those names and the pics, and were expecting to get the full story on the two phones as the Mobile World Congress got started. Like so many other of the handsets LG is planning to showcase at the event, it's gone ahead and gotten a head start, officially announcing the F5 and F7 today. If you're interested in a high-end Android, set your sights elsewhere – like on the Optimus G Pro – as these F series models are ...

While we're looking forward to seeing a ton of new devices at the Mobile World Congress, that's just part of what companies are coming there to promote, and we'll be hearing about a whole bunch of software and services, as well. Samsung's gotten the ball rolling a little early, and we've just learned of its upcoming TV Discovery service, a system to help connect you with TV and movies. While TV Discovery will be integrated with Samsung's smart TV lineup, the service will also be available through mobile devices; we haven't yet heard just which will be supported, but expect to see it on a ...

Watch today's Pocketnow Daily as we talk about how the red HTC One mysteriously vanished from the HTC website. Then we go through some of the amazing benchmarks of the HTC One, though we'd wait for some real-world tests before we declare them as faster than anything out there. Samsung is next as new rumors have the company adopting the Snapdragon 600 for the Galaxy S IV. Then LG takes the stage as we have their new MWC teaser along with an Optimus F7 and F5 being rumored. We end today's show talking about the Asus MWC teaser, and what they could mean with their "Metallic Miracle". All this ...

Yesterday's launch of the HTC One has devices which eschew plastic for a metal construction on our minds, and today our thoughts return to the topic, upon ASUS releasing an MWC 2013 teaser video for its "metallic miracle." Between that line, and the video's description referencing "when Pad and Phone come together," it's sounding pretty likely that the company is talking about the model ME371MG we looked at a little earlier this month, supposedly being developed under the name Fonepad. Besides the aluminum body we got to see in a leaked pic, that device is interesting for its use of an ...

When it comes to LG's smartphone lineup for the Mobile World Congress, the company isn't exactly holding its cards close to its chest. We've already heard LG announce phones like its new L-series models and the Optimus G Pro, and yesterday the company released an MWC trailer video (below) which touches on all the new Androids it plans to bring to Barcelona. Today, we get to take a look at a pair of those models, with press renders leaking for two F-series devices. On the left up there is what's reportedly the Optimus F7, and on the right the Optimus F5; while both keep their hardware ...

Yesterday, Canonical started a countdown timer promising some sort of Ubuntu tablet news to arrive this morning. Just a few minutes ago, that counter finally reached zero, resulting in the announcement that the company will be showing off Ubuntu for tablets at the MWC next week and giving us our first real look at this new tablet UI. That's a little bit of a let-down, since we're no closer to knowing when this software will see a release, but it's still great to finally get a full look at what this platform will have to offer. (Update: the first developer preview of Ubuntu for tablets will ...
