The HTC Merge for Verizon has been something of a ghost. It was first spotted back in 2010, but Verizon never seemed to have that much interest in going about actually bringing it to market. Ultimately, it was dumped onto the carrier as an option only available online or through third-part retailers; Verizon wanted no part of this phone anywhere near its own stores. While the Merge has seen life on some other carriers, it seemed like Verizon had done all it could to sweep the phone under the rug. Perhaps that’s why we’re so surprised to see it popping-up again now in a [...]
LG’s Optimus S on Sprint isn’t the only Android set to receive some Gingerbread treatment today, with US Cellular revealing that its HTC Merge is also making the step up to Android 2.3.
Unlike the LG update, the Merge’s on US Cellular isn’t going out OTA. While that wouldn’t be a huge problem by itself, the HTC Sync software needed to apply the update to the phone is only available on Windows operating systems; Linux and Mac users, you’ll have to borrow a PC or head to a US Cellular store to have the update applied in-person. Don’t get [...]
Alltel is selling the HTC Merge since April and we were wondering when Verizon will get the smartphone on its shelves after some press renders of the Verizon HTC Merge appeared online. If they don’t hurry, US Cellular will be the second carrier to get the Merge ahead of Verizon, if the rumors are true.
According to an internal document leaked, US Cellular will have the HTC Merge ready on May 31, after passing an initial testing phase. It will go for $249.99 with a two-year agreement before a $100 mail in rebate. With its 800MHz processor, 3.8-inch screen and slide-out [...]
It’s been over a month since we got our hands on some high-quality press shots of the HTC Merge on Verizon, and the phone has still yet to land at the carrier. Alltel has been selling its Merge since last month, but we haven’t heard anything come out of Verizon. The Merge is one of those phones that seems to take forever to get to market; we’ve been seeing it pop up here and there since last year. The day for its Verizon launch may nearly have arrived, with a leaked document showing that third-party retailers will have access to the smartphone as of [...]
Alltel recently announced that it would begin offering the HTC Merge, but it looks like that Android is bringing along a few of its friends. In addition to the Merge, Alltel now has the Samsung Gem, Motorola Milestone X, and LG Axis. Some of these we knew were coming, some have been at the carrier for a little while already, but together they really help flesh-out the smartphone selection, something all too often lacking from non-major carriers.
HTC’s Merge is headed to multiple carriers, and why not? Based on the Desire Z, this CDMA model of the hardware has a 800MHz [...]
Let’s face it, you and everyone else with even a passing interest in cellphones has seen the HTC Merge before — branded, unbranded, in the wild, in leaked presentations, and courtesy of its user manual. So the appearance of press shots of this Android-powered QWERTY slider serve just once purpose: confirmation that Merge is poised to hit Verizon any day now (despite its curious absence on that alleged leaked roadmap we recently saw). In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the CDMA Desire Z hit shelves before the end of the week, especially since smaller regional [...]
Wireless operators tend to be pretty secure with their web assets, so when mentions of particular phones begin appearing on a given site, it’s usually a pretty good sign that device launches are only days or even hours away. Well Verizon was particularly generous this weekend, exposing no less than three upcoming handsets — the HTC Trophy, Samsung Gem, and HTC Merge — on various parts of its domain. Although all of these devices are considered a lock for the nation’s largest carrier, none have yet been officially confirmed by Big Red.
First up is the [...]
Today, Alltel issued a press release announcing the launch of the HTC Merge, an Android 2.2 smartphone that has been in the wild for many months. It’s essentially a CDMA version of the HTC Desire Z, which means that it’s rocking a 3.8″ WVGA display with an 800MHz CPU and 512MB of RAM. We expect that Verizon will issue a similar press release within the next month. It’s now up for preorder for a reasonable $125.
The big news here is the inclusion of the Amazon Appstore. For Amazon to be successful with their competing application market, they must start [...]
When the VZ Navigator application for the HTC Thunderbolt surfaced in the Android Market on March 1, the smartphone itself was launched two weeks after. Now there’s a VZ Navigator application up in the Market which looks to be for the HTC Merge.
The smartphone passed FCC at the beginning of February and was at times rumored for Alltel too besides Verizon (or instead of). Anyways, the application is called VZ Navigator for Merge, it appeared recently in the Market and could either indicate that the HTC Merge will see the light of Verizon day soon (in April) or that [...]
HTC’s Merge may not have been subject to the same public speculation over its long-delayed release as the Thunderbolt has, but it’s arguably been through even more than the LTE smartphone. Ever since it looked like Verizon would be launching the phone last August, no one’s seemed anxious to see it brought forward to retail. Instead, it’s been languishing behind the scenes, popping up in the occasional WiFi Alliance or FCC document, only to be finally announced by HTC last month to be headed to “multiple North American carriers beginning in spring [...]
The image above may suggest that the Android-powered HTC Merge QWERTY slider will make a landing on Sprint, but don’t let the logo fool you: LetsTalk is just reusing the skeleton from its EVO Shift 4G page . What interests us here is actually the URL of the device image itself, which happens to be:
Along with the alleged in-the-wild photo we saw in January of a Merge with Alltel wallpaper, the naming convention here almost certainly confirms that the regional carrier will be one of [...]
About a month ago we saw the HTC Merge hit the FCC. This device, which has been stubbornly appearing through leaked images and even unreleased accessories, is finally on the last road to hitting shelves at Verizon. The FCC filing has been updated with the user manual, which takes us through basic phone operation. The device features Android 2.2 with world-phone capability with an 800MHz CPU.

It was only days ago that the HTC Merge — CDMA cousin of the Vision / G2 — seemed destined for the smartphone junk bin before ever seeing the light of day. Now, in just the past week, the Android-powereed QWERTY slider was quietly launched by HTC and promised to hit multiple carriers, reappeared in Verizon’s inventory, and is now available for purchase on eBay (a single unit, that is).
The seller, who sounds like an employee of accessories maker Skinomi based on the number of times the manufacturer is referenced in the posting, claims that the device has only [...]
A spy shot of what appears to be Verizon’s system looks to have two devices listed, namely the HTC Merge (ADR 6325) and the HTC Droid Incredible 2 (ADR 6350).
Now, HTC Merge was just launched yesterday and it is expected to be a Verizon Wireless exclusive, at least at the beginning. With its 3.8-inch WVGA display, five-megapixel camera and slide-out QWERTY keyboard, the HTC Merge is the Taiwanese manufacturer’s first Android CDMA world phone.
There’s not much known about the HTC Droid Incredible 2, but it appears to exist according to the screenshot [...]
