If you haven't seen plenty of images of the HTC M8 by now, you just haven't been paying attention. Over the last few weeks, a bunch of supposed pictures of this smartphone have been published, and while uncertainty clouded some of those early looks, by now we're starting to get a better sense for exactly how the phone might appear. Today, a new shot of the phone in a protective case arrives, and there are a couple things about it we find particularly noteworthy. We've noticed quite a bit of concern in your comments about that black bar with the HTC logo, unnecessarily eating up real estate ...

2014 flagships from our favorite Android OEMs are just around the corner. Some devices we've had really close looks at already, like Sony's Sirius. Others have more questions hanging over them, such as Samsung's Galaxy S 5, but at least invitations to press events have provided us with a good sense of when to expect answers. But then there's the HTC M8, which still has more than a few mysteries left to reveal, and had also been going without any hard news of a launch event. Last week, we heard that invites would be headed out in about two weeks, and had been waiting patiently for more ...

It's been just under two weeks by now since the first opportunity we had to lay eyes on a seemingly legitimate image of HTC's M8 (even if we still had our doubts at the time). The days that followed have brought us few additional chances to examine the phone's hardware from a number of angles, and a couple new shots arrived over the weekend, really highlighting the phone's metal construction. Even with the phone's matte finish, a little bright lighting is all we need to see that metal really shine, and the interplay of light and metal in this new rear shot really helps to highlight the ...

Snow storms have their ups and downs. On the one hand, they keep you from partaking in all the Nokia unboxing fun your comrades in more seasonable climes are enjoying - but on the other, they put you in mind of all the friends you have in the great Arctic North. One such person is friend of the show Nick Gray of HTCSource and Android and Me, who joins us today for a special extended episode taking a long look at all the HTC M8 rumors of the past few weeks. That's followed by the rest of the news, which this week ranges from Galaxy Gear 2 and iPhone 6 speculation to riffing about Android ...

The 2014 HTC One has recently leaked in a picture showing off some pretty 2013 One-like looks. It also seemed to have rounder corners, and a taller form factor, more in the vein of the HTC One Mini. However, just like with the case of the alleged back leak, we're seeing something different on the front today. If previously we've seen several leaks claiming to be the real back of the 2014 HTC One, they all differed, and mainly through the positioning of the dual LED flashes (either adjacent to each other, or separated). Now something similar is going on on the front too: the previous image ...

The iPhone 6 and Galaxy S 5 take the stage next as reports have both devices sporting a bezel-less fingerprint scanning display. We end today's show talking about the SDK leaks of Windows Phone 8.1, and the big list of features to expect. All this and more after the break. Stories: - Windows Phone 8.1 SDK ...

Over the course of the past week, we've had three separate chances to look at imagery purporting to depict the HTC M8. First we had that rear shot that looked legit enough, but an HTC exec quickly called it into question. Then there were those front shots that appeared to be more like a Photoshopped HTC One than anything – and indeed, screenshots that would leak soon after seemed to contradict them. But then by the third leak we were back on solid ground, as it seemed to confirm that first pic and also offer a few convincing shots of the phone's front. That's where we look again today, ...

Remember that leaked image of the alleged HTC M8, showing two back cameras and dual LED, about which an HTC exec implied it was PhotoShopped? Or was it about the other set of images we've seen? Either way, it looks like the idea won't die, probably fueled by all the rumors and leaked cases, or probably because there's definitely fire somewhere, as we're seeing lot of smoke. Another photo has been recently leaked, as seen above, and it seems to support the theory that the next One phone will have dual cameras (and also to support the previous leak). One thing to note here is that, opposed ...

Sometimes it's not the promise of saving money, nor the allure of a shiny device that drives you from the warm arms of your current wireless carrier - sometimes it's just a matter of standing up for what you believe in. That's the case with today's podcast guest, friend of the show and longtime Verizon Wireless customer Chris Larson, who's leaving Big Red for the much smaller T-Mobile USA due to Verizon's stance on net neutrality. On this episode of the Weekly, we'll talk to Chris and find out just what he's prepared to sacrifice, and why. Before that, though, there's an avalanche of news ...

So far in HTC M8 news this week, we've had the opportunity to check out a number of images claiming to reveal the upcoming flagship. The first one quickly caught criticism from an HTC exec, and the next two to to arrive presented some believability problems of their own. Is it too much to ask for a trustworthy look at this Android? We're still waiting for a glimpse at the hardware worthy of putting some faith in, but in the meantime a new image of the phone's software has arrived, apparently revealing the M8's homescreen, complete with the next phase of Sense. Sure enough, the expected ...

Despite being a solid phone, the HTC One -- and its later announced siblings, the One Mini and the One Max -- didn't manage to stop HTC's ongoing decline, and neither did "The Change" marketing campaign for which the Taiwanese phone-maker enrolled Robert Downey Jr. However, there are still reasons to be excited about 2014 inside HTC, as per this recent Bloomberg report. A wearable device, probably a smartwatch, is planned by HTC, and should arrive in time for the year-end Holiday season. Will it be too late? Not if it's innovative enough, and, according to the company's Chairwoman, Cher ...

Overnight, we saw the arrival of an image claiming to reveal the HTC M8, showing off the weird dual-camera configuration previously mentioned in leaks and hinted at by way of case designs. But is this really the M8 we're looking at? A couple new developments cross our desk this evening, with an HTC executive casting doubt on that earlier find, and a couple new pics surfacing – though ones that are already attracting some criticism themselves. Mark Moons is HTC's regional director for the Benelux area of Europe, and he took to Twitter this morning – just hours after that “M8” image ...

Front-facing cameras on smartphones have lived relatively undignified lives. When we even give them a second thought, all we seem to care about is that they're present at all, and as such they've sort of languished while other phone components continued to mature. Even looking at flagships like the GS4 or HTC One, we're only dealing with two-megapixel cameras. But outside the narrow playing field of brands like Samsung, HTC, and LG, other OEMs have been giving front-facers some more “oomph,” and not only have many started releasing phones with five-megapixel front-facers, but we've ...

What we have here is what appears to be the first picture of the HTC M8, in real life. We've heard a lot about the 2014 phone that will be the follow-up to the 2013 One flagship, including some weird rumors (backed up by case manufacturers) of a strange camera arrangement on the back. Nonetheless, this image seems to shed more light on it, as there will indeed be two cameras. Or will there? We're hoping it will not be called "Stereo UltraPixel" and it definitely couldn't serve a 3D purpose. So what can it be? Id sure doesn't look like a fingerprint scanner like on the HTC One Max, so our ...

Seeing as we just looked at some pretty comprehensive breakdowns of what to expect from both the Samsung Galaxy S 5 and Apple iPhone 6, it seems only fitting that we now take a little time to talk about the other smartphone that's approaching the same kind of heightened pre-launch interest, HTC's M8. Overnight, we brought you news about how HTC could finally be heading down the virtual button route, and now we're hearing a little about the company's plans for the handset's external design. We've seen fan renders, we've seen 3D printed stand-ins, and we've seen what may be cases for the M8, ...

Exactly one week ago we've heard rumors that HTC might ditch the current capacitive button approach, find on its devices, and use on-screen buttons for the upcoming M8 instead. We're now seeing how these might look on the screen of the HTC One follow-up, as per the image above. Needless to say that, if true, such a placement will free up some bezel space on the device which might end up either smaller, or, at worse, the same in terms of dimensions, despite the rumored larger, five-inch screen. Of note is also the fact that the back button above seems to be different than the < arrow HTC ...

If 2013 is of any indication, HTC should play the same card in 2014 too. On February 19 (note, before MWC 2013) HTC announced the One flagship and on July 18 the company unveiled its smaller sibling, the HTC One Mini. This year, the HTC M8 (the One+, One 2, or another name) is expected to be unveiled sometime during the first quarter of the year, bearing the model number 0P6B120 which we initially heard about back in November. According to @evleaks, the 0P6B (only first part of the model number for the M8) will be followed to the market by a certain 0P8B (our note, we're likely looking ...

Last year, we saw the HTC arrive with just two color options: the phone's iconic silver finish, as well as a black finish. Early teases of an additional red option were eventually confirmed a few months post-launch, and further down the road we got a blue version, as well. Heck, we even saw a golden option arrive. Now our HTC focus is firmly on expectations for the launch of the One's successor, which we've been following through its development as codename M8. When it finally steps out into the spotlight, what sort of color variety might HTC have to share? A rumor out this morning claims ...

You all remember the fan-made render of the HTC M8 we've seen not so long ago. It featured, among some other slight changes, on-screen buttons. HTC went with a physical button layout for the One line-up (including the One, One Mini, and One Max), but apparently, according to @evleaks, the M8 will have its buttons on the screen, pretty much like the fan-concept we've seen earlier. The HTC M8 will be the successor of the HTC One (M7) from 2013, and it is for the moment tentatively called the One+. While some reports claim HTC will show it off on the MWC show floor in Barcelona, others ...

I'm a fan of HTC products. Anyone who's been around very long probably remembers how I recall my days with the HP iPaq with great fondness. That device was well-built, stylish, and rugged! I teamed that little Pocket PC up with an IR keyboard and typed countless pages of notes from my college courses on it. While others with laptops hunted for power outlets, I just sat down and tapped away. Back then HTC built devices that other OEMs sold with their brands stamped all over them. Eventually HTC started making its own products, but the road has been pretty rocky. That seemed to turn around ...
