If you haven’t noticed, AT&T has really turned up the heat in advertising its latest smartphone heavyweights. Now feeling the pressure from two other iPhone-carrying competitors, it’s working hard to maintain a diversified smartphone portfolio, and it’s doing a pretty good job of it, too.
In line with that goal, AT&T has been heavily marketing its version of the HTC One X, as well as the Nokia Lumia 900. Of course, those of us who make the mobile industry our occupation, hobby, or obsession know the differences between these two high-end devices, but [...]
If neither cyan or black is the color of your choice when it comes to the Lumia 900 on AT&T and you’re interested in the white version you can go ahead and purchase one from AT&T for $99.99 on a two-year contract.
However, if you want to grab the same phone in the same color for $49.99, you’ll need to be a little patient. The device is indeed listed on Amazon with the price mentioned but it currently has a “backordered” status. This could either mean that it sold out like hot cookies or that the listing is already there but there are no phones [...]
Users of Nokia’s Lumia series of Windows Phone handsets are no strangers to putting up with a few bugs. It seems that ever since these phones arrived last fall, they’ve been plagued by a run of glitchy behavior, with problems ranging from battery life issues, to data connectivity, to audio problems. One we heard about recently was supposedly affecting certain Lumia 900 models, causing their displays to appear cast with a purple tint when screen brightness was turned down. Now Nokia has publicly announced that it’s figured out what’s causing this problem, and [...]
We’ve heard some rumors already that Microsoft had been testing current builds of Windows Phone 8 Apollo on Lumia-series devices. We didn’t want to get too excited, and assume that meant that current-generation Windows Phone hardware would necessarily be seeing upgrades to WP8 (a contentious issue at the moment), but if true, it would certainly be interesting news. Today, we get to take a look at a picture purporting to show just such an arrangement, but is it all it appears to be?
Supposedly, what we’ve got here is a Lumia 900 running an in-development Windows [...]
The HTC Titan II and the Nokia Lumia 900 are the hottest Windows Phones on AT&T at the moment and they both support the carrier’s 4G network and speeds. If you didn’t grab one already you have a chance of winning a unit with Windows Phone and Skype.
Since they’re AT&T phones, this contest is U.S.-only but the good thing is that it ends on June 7, 2012 at 11:59PST. All you have to do to enter the contest and win one out of ten devices given away is to follow the source link below to Facebook, watch the video and enter in your details to submit your [...]
Nokia’s Lumia 900 is doing brisk sales on AT&T as the first LTE-enabled Windows phone handset available. Even without that 4G LTE connectivity, there’s a lot of excitement to see the HSPA+ version of the 900 go up for sale internationally, including in the UK. Could the 900’s success in the US be affecting Nokia’s plans for starting sales elsewhere? While word recently came out that the phone’s availability would be delayed, Nokia’s got a slightly different take on the situation.
UK retailers had been saying that the 900 would arrive on [...]
Earlier this month, we got a look at a display in a Microsoft store that revealed a new magenta color option for the Nokia Lumia 900. At the time, we only had the choice between black and cyan, but since then, AT&T’s started selling the 900 in white, as well. Even with that model now available, we had yet to hear anything official from either Nokia or AT&T about this magenta version. Now, it looks like Nokia, at least, is fully embracing the magenta 900, now showing the model as a color option available through its Facebook app.
This still doesn’t give us [...]
We just heard from one manufacturer about how it chooses to produce smartphones in the colors it does, so it’s only fitting that we’re continuing to look at new color options now. Back when AT&T first announced its release plans for the Nokia Lumia 900, it explained that the black and cyan versions of the handset would be the first to be released, with a white option to follow later. Well, we’ve seen those first two arrive, no problem, and the white 900 was supposed to come out this weekend, on Sunday. Instead, it looks like AT&T may be getting ahead of [...]
We had noticed one of our Microsoft Facebook friends had built her own Nokia Lumia docking station built from Legos last week. It looks like she had learned this from a Baris Eris blog post and Nokia has decided to put together a full gallery of images on Facebook so that you can learn how to make your own. If you’re not interested in the challenge of finding all the right Lego pieces to build one yourself, Ron Buckton, has created a parts list in Lego Digital Designer LXF format which you can load into the Online Lego Digital Designer, customize the colors, and purchase all the [...]
In a recent article on PC Pro, a UK technology website, an executive for a mobile operator had some pretty harsh words for Nokia handsets running Windows Phone.
“No one comes into the store and asks for a Windows phone. Nokia have given itself a double challenge: to restore its credibility in terms of making hardware smartphones and succeed with the Microsoft Windows operating system, which lags in the market.”
What’s ironic is that these two companies, Nokia and Microsoft, used to lead in their respective markets. “Nokia” was all but [...]
We’ve heard how Nokia is allegedly preparing an exclusive phone for every U.S. carrier and we’re positive you remember the post about a certain “improved” Lumia 900 purportedly coming to other carriers — as AT&T’s exclusivity on the phone is, according to rumors, lasting only 45 days.
Following up on all the above reports and rumors, an in-store T-Mobile rep allegedly said the “Lumia 900 will be coming to T-Mobile this summer”. We could be looking at some real inside information here or just an overzealous sales rep. However, [...]
If you want to purchase a Nokia Lumia 900 phone online at AT&T you will run into a small speed bump. As you can see in the screenshot above (or by going to the AT&T source link below), the phone is out of stock for both the black and cyan versions. The situation seems to be the same at brick-and-mortar stores but speculation is that the units have been sent back for reflashing with the latest data connectivity fix. If you still need to grab a unit pronto then head over to Amazon.
On a related note, a magenta flavored Nokia Lumia 900 is possible, as hinted by a screen [...]
We had some pretty high expectations for Nokia’s Lumia 900, and much to the manufacturer’s credit, the phone largely delivered. That said, things weren’t perfect, and a pretty embarrassing problem with the phone quickly came to light. Nokia had shipped the phone with some software in place that was creating a problem with the handset’s memory management, a problem that would manifest itself as a loss of data connectivity. A couple days ago, we heard from Nokia that it was fast-tracking an update to fix this issue, and users could hope to see it arrive sometime [...]
Many Americans who follow the smartphone world were disappointed last year when Nokia released the Lumia 800. They were disappointed that it wasn’t available in North America but also because it didn’t have things like a front-facing camera, LTE high speed internet access, or a larger screen. This week, Nokia aims to remedy these complaints by releasing the Lumia 900 on AT&T. The Lumia 900 is a big upgrade to the Lumia 800, but it keeps the great hardware design and feel along with a slightly updated version of Windows Phone 7.5 that brings support for [...]
Before the Nokia Lumia 900 ever made it to AT&T, we had heard that the carrier was planning to spend somewhere around $150M to promote this first Windows Phone LTE handset. We’ve since learned that the actual amount AT&T is putting into Lumia 900 marketing is quite a bit lower, but is it still managing to effectively stir-up interest in the phone? Based on a recent report, it seems that AT&T may be making at least one misstep in its promotion and sales chains, and it’s one that could seek to undermine much of the impact of the carrier’s advertising [...]
The Nokia Lumia 900 on AT&T is probably the Windows Phone that enjoyed the most exposure. It is often regarded as Nokia’s (and Microsoft’s) chance to do something big on the U.S. market and the initial feedback from customers is good — the phone is topping sale charts.
In an official blog post today Nokia acknowledged “a memory management issue” which “could, in some cases, lead to loss of data connectivity”. It is reassuring to find out that the issue is due to software and is not hardware or network related. That being the case, [...]
Last time we looked, Nokia Music was updated to version 2.0 with UI and audio improvements. This time around, the application has been updated to version 2.1.
The changelog includes general improvements in performance and responsiveness, Nokia Music Unlimited (only available in selected countries and on certain devices) as well as controls for shuffle and repeat in the music player. If you have a Nokia Windows Phone and you use the application you might want to consult your Marketplace on the device for the refresh.

On March 26, AT&T officially announced the Nokia Lumia 900 and the HTC Titan II, both introduced at this year’s CES as Windows Phones taking advantage of the carrier’s 4G LTE network. The availability date announced was April 8 and, as such, both phones are now available.
The Nokia Lumia 900 — with its 4.3-inch ClearBlack AMOLED display, 1830 mAh battery, eight-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, f/2.2 and 28mm wide angle focal length — goes for $99.99 on a two-year contract (and $449.99 for the phone only). The HTC Titan II — packing the [...]
Last night at 7pm, Nokia and Nicki Minaj took over Times Square in New York City to announce the new Lumia 900 as the end of the “smartphone beta test.” We were there to check it out, of course, and it was a lot of fun. The VIP party at the RLounge was cool and all, but it didn’t have enough windows to see the show from, so we stuck with the outdoor viewing.
Using the latest CGI technology the team behind the massive Hollywood blockbuster, i-Robot, created one of the world’s largest LED displays.
Nokia took control of nine of the square’s [...]
