Microsoft is set to unveil its Windows Phone 8 mobile platform on October 29 and we already have a couple of devices to choose from: Samsung ATIV S, Nokia Lumia 920, Nokia Lumia 820, HTC Windows Phone 8X, and HTC Windows Phone 8S and their carrier equivalents, to name a few. A recent Changewave research unveils that nine percent of those interviewed are inclined to purchase a Windows Phone 8. Two percent out of those find it very likely and seven percent somewhat likely. As far as the preferred OEM is concerned Samsung is leading the pack with 51% followed by Nokia's 35%; HTC is third ...

T-Mobile's Lumia 820 variant, the 810, looks just like the 820. There are some tiny differences with component layout, meaning that its replaceable shells aren't directly compatible with the 820's, but with extra shells of its own set to become available, that's not a problem. The Verizon version of the hardware on the other hand, the Lumia 822, has an altogether different look. According to some new tipster info, that also means no swappable backplates. According to the same source, the 822 feels a bit cheap and plastic-y. He confirmed that the microSD slot is still in place, and also ...

Nokia "Atlas" was the codename of this phone when we first saw a leak of the Lumia 820 variant for Verizon. At that time it was a press render and many of our commenters opined that it was not among the prettiest phones out there. Today we're seeing the first real-life pictures of the device which goes by the model number Lumia 822, according to the latest reports. The specs are on-par with the global variant which means a 4.3-inch screen with WVGA resolution and an eight-megapixel camera at the back with Carl Zeiss optics. Of course there's reportedly LTE for Verizon under that matte ...

T-Mobile recently announced its own Lumia 820 variant, the Lumia 810, and it is now Verizon's turn; even though we are still waiting for official wording the phone pictured above claims to be Big Red's take on the phone, codenamed at this stage as the "Atlas". Right from the start you'll notice the rounded corners, the Verizon branding as well as the relocated front facer. The screen should be one of 4.3-inches even though details regarding specs were not unveiled (so it is safe to assume that they will be the same as the unbranded version). When renders like this are popping up they are ...

Watch today's Pocketnow Daily as we talk about Microsoft's press invites for their official Windows 8 announcement on October 25th along with the first day of sales for their Surface tablet. Then we go through their other press invites for the Windows Phone 8 launch on October 29th. We then talk about the rumors of an LG Optimus G-based Nexus device in the making. Later we go through AT&T's decision to serve as the guinea pig for the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Camera. We end today's show by talking about the launch of the Nokia Lumia 920 in the US, and sadly, as an exclusive to ...

As I heard of AT&T's Nokia Lumia announcements this morning, all I could remember was a historic phrase that I heard more than five years ago. It said: "Every once in a while, a revolutionary product comes along that changes everything." Yes, these were iconic words that Steve Jobs used to begin his iPhone announcement at MacWorld 2007. The guy was right, the iPhone was revolutionary, but what I don't think Jobs understood back then, where the implications of keeping the iPhone as an exclusive AT&T product for the next three years. Not because the first three iPhones didn't sell ...

We just shared word with you of AT&T's announcement of the Nokia Lumia 820 and 920. While we didn't see any images of the new hardware at first, leaving us unable to confirm or deny rumors that Nokia had managed to arrange for the release of its new phones without any sort of carrier badging, iPhone-style, those pictures have subsequently turned up. Sorry to let you down, but the new Lumias at AT&T will most definitely arrive with the carrier's logo, front and prominent. At the least, news of the phone coming to AT&T has managed to confirm the presence of a cyan 920, which ...

It was only yesterday that we were talking about rumors of how AT&T would announce, and subsequently begin sales of the Lumia 920. Best guess at the time looked to an announcement and pricing details coming around October 21, pre-orders the week after that, and availability commencing on November 4. Maybe AT&T heard those rumors, too, and wanted to set things straight, as today it went ahead and issued a statement announcing the Lumia 820 and Lumia 920. Unfortunately, pricing info has still yet to enter into play. We've heard enough off-contract pricing for the European market, but ...

Tis the season for competing OEMs to build ads that will try to drive attention away from the iPhone 5. Not that we praise the practice, but it's just what they do for reasons we find unnecessary when their products don't need to be compared to be great. Nokia has just followed Samsung’s footsteps in publishing a video ad where they try to prove the iPhone 5 as a stale product because it’s only sold in black or white, where by contrast, you can buy a Lumia 920 or 820 in lots of variable colors. What’s funny about the ad is that it tries to make Apple look like big brother as many of ...

Unless you're just a huge proponent of your cellular carrier, you might find it somewhere falling between tacky and annoying that your nice new smartphone has a way of arriving prominently stamped with your carrier's logo. Sure, some people don't mind, but then again, some people leave the dealer's frame around their new car's license plate. So far, if you've wanted a nice, clean smartphone, you've largely had to either pick up an unsubsidized international model, or go with something like the iPhone, where Apple's got enough muscle to keep carriers off its toes. According to some new ...

Excited to see the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 getting ready to make their retail debut? We are too, but so far we've been pretty in the dark on the smartphones' launch details. Now that October's nearly here, we expect to start seeing the pieces fall into place, and one of the first truly confirmed of info arrived this week, upon Nokia announcing details of the two phones' European launch. Both the Lumia 920 and 820 are coming to Germany this November. Unfortunately, Nokia wasn't ready to go into more detail than that regarding the actual timetable, but it did have a little bit to say about ...

Watch today's Pocketnow Daily as we talk about Samsung's recent invite to their Galaxy Note II event launch in New York City this October 24th. Then we talk about Nokia's recent announcement of when the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 will be available in Europe, which was good, but sadly not accurate. Then we go through the recent rumors of the HTC One X+ for Europe, which brings the same iconic design of the One X with some better specs. We later talk about the recent Geekbench results of the iPhone 5, which are much faster than expected. Then we end today's show with the recent rumors of of ...

When HTC made its new Windows Phone 8 lineup official last week, one of the first thoughts to cross our minds when seeing all those bright, bold colors and eye-catching designs was how Nokia-esque the Windows Phone 8X and 8S appeared. Well, apparently we weren't alone, as now at least one tipster is claiming that Nokia is gearing-up to launch a legal volley at HTC, with the hopes of preventing sales for at least one of its new models due to allegations of copying Nokia's look. What PC-Tablet calls an "internal reliable source" says that Nokia thinks HTC's 8X looks too much like the Lumia ...

Last week, in the midst of a Microsoft news explosion, I posted a piece on why you might consider the HTC Windows Phone 8S over its bigger, more-advanced counterpart, the 8X. My principal argument was centered around the fact that though the 8X offers more headline-worthy features and a much more robust spec sheet, the 8S features attributes some might find even more compelling. That's not a condition limited to HTC's new "signature Windows Phone 8 devices," though. There's evidence of this trend all across the smartphone landscape, with manufacturers delivering more and more ...

This time on the Pocketnow Weekly: SO MANY NEWS. "It's been quite a week" is something of a tired phrase when it comes to mobile technology, and we've used it, verbatim, for the past month or so -- because it's true. From Windows Phone 8 to Android to iOS 6 to ... heck, even BlackBerry had some news this week. We did our best to get to most of it on the podcast, but there's only so much time in a morning, especially when some of the news is so finely detailed. Tune in to this week's Pocketnow Weekly podcast for in-depth discussion of HTC's new Windows Phone 8 handsets, new Android phones ...
