Nokia has updated its Maps application bundled with Lumia Windows Phones to version 2.o.21.304. The new version of the application is more social and it allows you, for instance, to add a photo to a place description and leave a relevant review directly from your Nokia Lumia. You can also sync your favorite places with maps.nokia.com, which makes them available online or on other platforms in case you have an account (Windows Phone, Symbian, MeeGo). You can also pin stuff to the home screen so if you have a Nokia-made Windows Phone we advise you to update your Maps client. Source: Nokia

Sorry folks, it's not available in the U.S.! With that one now out of the way we will remind you that Nokia Reading is the Finnish manufacturer's digital reading app and library for Windows Phone with e-book reading feature as well as RSS reader functionality which even allows you to pin publications to the home screen. Russia, U.K., Germany, Italy, France and Spain were rumored to be among the first regions to get the application and it is now available in the Marketplace's Nokia Collection section on Lumia 900, 800, 710, and 610 Windows Phones. If you have one of the aforementioned ...

Nokia appears to be truly committed to Windows Phones and while the hardware capabilities are standardized over OEMs, the Finnish manufacturer is further differentiating itself from the others with the help of dedicated applications, like the Creative Studio from the end of March. Furthermore, a "Camera Extension" will be launched for the Lumia line-up which will integrate with the Camera application of Windows Phone, but with added features. These features will bring no less than four camera modes: Smart Group Shot, Action Shot (burst mode with about eight shots), Panoramic (stitching ...

When Nokia released its 12070 update for the Lumia 800, it was attempting to fix a few outstanding bugs in its Windows Phone smartphone. The update addressed power management issues, fixed some phone lock-ups, and was supposed to improve audio performance. It seems that in tackling that last one, though, Nokia ended up introducing some brand new glitches, and users noticed erratic volume behavior. Not content to let those bugs stand unchecked, there's now a new Lumia 800 update starting to go out, bringing the phone up to firmware 12072. The primary component of 12072 is code that fixes ...

Owners of the Nokia Lumia 710 and Lumia 800c (which is the Chinese version) will definitely get the Internet Sharing option -- that is tethering -- in the next update which seems to be Tango, aka Windows Phone 7.5 refresh. According to reports, NaviFirm is now listing localized versions of the update for the aforementioned devices, meaning that the roll-out should start soon. In addition to the platform refresh and Internet Sharing there are also add-on apps like Sportstracker, News and Creative Studio. So far Belgium, the Netherlands and Vietnam seem to have the 8773.12120 build ready ...

If you have a Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phone then you're not a stranger to the company's own "Where's My Update?" page where you can find detailed info about past and present updates by region, country and operator. Looks like the page is also hinting future updates as Lumia 800 devices on Vodafone are listed with "Software under creation" status. This means that there will be a refresh coming up which can either be rolled out later to all devices (in which case it could be the WiFi tethering update) or only limited to Vodafone and fixing some bugs with the firmware. Keep an eye out on ...

After a crucial decision to turn to Windows Phone as principal smartphone strategy, Nokia's Windows Phones have been on sale in Europe since the end of last year. "No one comes into the store and asks for a Windows phone," a European carrier's executive in charge of mobile devices said. This is a huge problem Nokia is facing and European carriers believe Nokia has failed to challenge the dominating competitors, Google and Apple. "If the Lumia with the same hardware came with Android in it and not Windows, it would be much easier to sell", said the executive. Aside from Windows Phone being ...

A select few Nokia Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 units were shipped with unlocked Qualcomm bootloaders instead of the locked Nokia versions, according to reports. When a device with such an unlocked bootloader was connected to a Linux computer a Qualcomm storage device popped up, basically allowing full reads and writes to the NAND. "That means you can actually write data to the device, allowing custom ROMs and more", like interop unlocked ones. Of course, there are risks of bricking your phone which would not be covered by warranty. However, if you are interested in the topic, check out the XDA ...

The changelog includes general improvements in performance and responsiveness, Nokia Music Unlimited (only available in selected countries and on certain devices) as well as controls for shuffle and repeat in the music player. The same way we heard about Nokia preparing its TV app for Lumia Windows Phones, Nokia Reading will soon make its way into the Marketplace as the Finnish company's e-book store, as presented at this year's MWC. The first country to get it will be Russia with UK, Germany, Italy, France and Spain following. If you have a Lumia 610, 700 or 800, you will be able to grab it as a free download (the 900 will have it pre-installed). There will be plenty of free e-books but there will be also an added RSS reader feature that will allow you to pin publications to the home screen. Source: WP7forum ...

Back in the early days of Windows Phone, Microsoft had a "Where's My Phone Update?" page which was constantly updated with new information to help users identify the status of updates by make, model, country and carrier. It was later yanked as it became difficult to maintain because of the complexity of the entire update process. This didn't stop Nokia from making a similar page for the Lumia 800 for instance. Following the source link below you will land on a page where you can select your region and then your country. Then, just look up your carrier to see if a certain update is ...

The screenshots above come from Russia and they are allegedly snapped off of Nokia's upcoming TV application to soon grace Lumia Windows Phones. Nokia TV would nicely compliment an already interesting application offering that the Espoo-company is offering to its Windows Phone customers. According to the report, Nokia TV will allow for video show streaming on WiFi and Data from a searchable database of local network offerings. The first country to see the app will allegedly be Finland, with local stations like YLE, MTV3 and Nelopen being supported. There's no info on a specific release ...

Nokia's Lumia 800 has been fighting its own demons when it comes to the phone's battery performance, and it seems that Nokia's been trying to fix the issue ever since the handset debuted. We heard about the phone's 11500 update in January, which was supposed to remedy the situation, but it remained. More recently, we've looked to the phone's 12070 update for salvation, announced earlier this month. We heard about some tales of the update's availability early-on, but Nokia's largely been sitting on it, waiting for April 18 to start sending it out. Thankfully, the company's decided to jump ...

It is March 28, and, as Stephen Elop himself hinted (promised), Nokia made its Windows Phone debut in China. The first CDMA Nokia Windows Phone on the market is the 800C, introduced with China Telecom. It will become available in April in the two best-selling flavors: black and cyan. If you are looking for something else (cheaper), make sure to wait until the second quarter of the year (which is just around the corner) when a CDMA version of the Lumia 610 will also land on China Telecom's line-up. Future owners of the Lumia 800C on China Telecom will have access to "popular Chinese media ...

We already know that the Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 Nokia Windows Phones don't (just yet) support Internet Sharing despite the fact that the Lumia 610 and the Lumia 900 have the feature enabled out-of-the-box. Microsoft and Nokia "are working diligently on that" and, according to recent reports from Italy, the WiFi tethering feature -- introduced with Windows Phone 7.5 "Mango" -- should be rolled out to the Lumia 800 starting the end of the month. The report is based on someone's claims who allegedly attended a meeting between carrier H3G and Nokia in Milan, Italy. If the above turns out to ...
