Apple has officially dumped the mini-phonojack — the 3.5mm headphone jack to us humans — and has elected to go Lightning only for any future audio listening. That includes EarPods with a Lightning connector and an adapter in every box to switch between Lightning and 3.5mm. Cupertino has also plopped in some Bluetooth-enabled AirPods, communicating audio wirelessly to individual earbuds. Each has an Apple-designed W1 chip to connect to your iPhone or Apple Watch and switch between them as needed and drive sound. Configurations can be backed up through iCloud. The cameras on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus get optical image stabilization. The regular model gets an f/1.8 aperture on a six-element lens. The Plus model has a 28mm lens on one camera and another camera with a 56mm lens for an effective 2x optical zoom product. Both sensors fire up every time the shutter button is pressed for a software-enabled "zoomed" view when looking at images in the gallery, with a maximum digital "zoom" crop of 10x. A more sensitive, power-efficient 12-megapixel camera comes behind the six-element glass and it is aided with a quad-LED flash. Apple's new Image ...

Apple has kept its Twitter account pretty empty for a while now, but it has given its account some life — though in cryptic ways. Michael Kukielka, better known as DetroitBORG on YouTube, has pulled some tweets that were posted and then deleted by Apple today, during its keynote. After opening up the keynote with talk show host James Corden and a Carpool Karaoke segment, — the standalone show will be on Apple Music later this year — Apple CEO Tim Cook opened up this event's keynote with a bevy of musical updates. The foremost of them is a major update to the user interface of Apple Music app. Most of what we've seen at WWDC has been implemented with tweaks since then. Cook touted that Apple Music held 70 exclusives in the past year. Subscribers now tally at 17 million. More on this news in future stories.

Samsung’s had its chance(s) to bring out the big guns for the upcoming holiday season, largely spoiled by a series of unfortunate exploding events, companies like Sony, Acer, Asus and Lenovo shared the IFA 2016 spotlight, LG did everything in its power yesterday to rain on iPhone 7’s parade, and now, it’s finally time for Apple’s big day. Another big day after the WWDC introduction of iOS 10 back on June 13, that is, this time centered on highly anticipated hardware releases. Yes, plural, with the Apple Watch 2 likely joining the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus on the Bill Graham Civic Center ...

Update: This story has been updated with information from the launch event. With all due respect to other companies' wearables to be showcased at IFA Berlin this year, the only real smartwatch of Note (heh) that's garnered enough buzz to be watched is Samsung's Gear S3. Two variations were launched at an event in Belin The Gear S3 classic, showing off a more traditional wristwatch form factor and it looks like a traditional wristwatch, too The Gear S3 frontier, a darker, more rugged-looking watch for explorers Design came first in focus for the company to make a smartwatch the ...

Bokeh balls hint at the cap of Apple's iconographic motif on Apple's events page. When's the freshly scheduled event happening? September 7. Next Wednesday will be the day that Apple will likely debut the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, as we've been calling them. The event, which will be livestreamed, will happen at 10am Pacific or 1pm Eastern. We also expect iOS 10 and various other Apple software platforms get finalized and announced for release and maybe even an Apple Watch 2 to be talked about. There are supposedly new MacBook Pro devices in the works, but they will be passed up for a ...

Our Juan Carlos Bagnell is on the ground in San Francisco at Honor's latest smartphone launch for the US market. We strongly believe it to be the Honor 8 that was launched in China last month, based on visual teasers and the use of a modified infinity insignia that's been integral to the Chinese-side marketing of the Honor 8. Of course, we can't confirm anything before the event happens. Better yet, some other devices might make the cut. Huawei's primary sub-brand will bring its "Eyes to the world" tonight with a livestream starting at 8pm Pacific, 11pm Pacific and 3:00 GMT. Catch it right ...

The Galaxy Note 7's digitized stylus, the S Pen, has gotten sleeker, more durable and smarter. The tip of the S Pen now measures 0.7mm, less than half the size of the Note 5's pen — it allows for pinpoint wisps. If you're working with a wide brush for oil paint colors, you can also mix them to generate colors as you would with real acrylic while at the other end of the stylus, you can erase what you need to erase. SVP of Product Strategy Justin Denison also told of more software feature including instant text translation on highlight and "Smart Select," which can crop a portion off a ...

Following an epileptic opening ceremony and a melodious collage of national anthems to follow along with the Olympic spirit, Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Note 7. Company president Dongjin Koh calls it the "world's most intelligent smartphone" and an entry into the fastest growing category of such phones: the phablet. Big points about the Note 7 were presented before the phone was even announced like the iris scanner, — with applications for keeping parents' children safe (and vice versa) along with mobile banking — the device's water-resistance, its wireless charging ...

There's plenty of anticipation hanging in the air. Lenovo and Motorola will be dropping plenty of that during today's keynote for the Lenovo Tech World '16 conference today. We have on-the-ground coverage in San Francisco, but if you want to get the keynote directly from there (and you're not there, we assume), this is the place to get it. If you're in it for the RAZR throwbacks, for the much-rumored Moto Z, the purported Phab 2 Pro with Project Tango augmented reality technology or all of the above, we'll be comparing wishlists to spec lists for the next little while. The keynote ...

Watch our Top 5 predictions for what to expect on Apple's October 22nd event, where the most probable theme is iPad. That said, we've this could be Apple's last event for the year, and judging from the fact that devices like the Apple TV haven't seen an overhaul, we could be in for more than just tablets. The biggest question we have is what'll we get and what'll we miss from this event. We're expecting new iPads, but we've also heard rumors of an iWatch, a full-fledged Apple TV, meaning an actual television and not just a box, and obviously new computers. As competition has aggressively ...
