Does Apple really need to do a lot of convincing to get people excited about the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus? Probably not, at least based on the record sales numbers Apple's reporting. But it surely can't hurt to get the word out there, and to help it accomplish this task, the company has tapped the voice talents of Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake. After starring in an early set of clips two weeks back on launch day, the duo is back with two more, talking-up the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus's size and camera prowess. To Apple fans who watched the launch event and have been following subsequent ...

Over the last few years, smartphones have evolved to accommodate for new use cases, primarily multimedia consumption – gaming, watching YouTube videos and movies, and browsing the web. As a result smartphones have grown from less than 4-inches in size to an average rapidly approaching the 5-inch threshold. Apple is one of the very last to jump on the larger smartphone bandwagon. Its last increase in size was from a 3.5-inch display to a 4-inch display, adding only vertical dimension and pixels to the existing panel. That wasn't enough, though. Other smartphones dwarfed the iPhone 5 and ...

It's no secret that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are attracting some serious interest from shoppers. Users are flocking to the new sizes as if 3.5 and 4-inch iPhones never existed, embracing this new era for Apple's hardware. Last week, we saw the company confirm a record start to its pre-orders, pulling in four million in just the first day alone. Since then, we've seen outright sales begin, including those at Apple's retail stores. Now Apple's stepping up to announce another record-setting statistic, selling north of ten million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus handsets in the three days following ...

That title calls for a disclaimer. As anyone who's looked at my Twitter profile knows, I’m not just a Windows phone user; I use Android too, and I occasionally sprinkle in BlackBerry and Sailfish when I'm feeling sporty. But I spend a little less than half my waking time with Windows software powering my communicator of choice, and my last 24 hours with iOS have given me a few insights about how these platforms differ – and how they don’t. From aesthetics to fluidity, Apple and Microsoft match up nicely. Both iOS and Windows Phone are tightly controlled software experiences that ...

Updated with the high-quality edited version of the podcast, which you can stream or download down below (or through your favorite podcatcher app). We hope you enjoyed; we'll check back in with you next week! If you ask us, the first thing you should do on iPhone launch day is take a long, hard look at the competition. Not because the iPhone is a bad product, but because everyone else tends to step up their game when Apple brings a new phone –or two– to the yard. And that's more true than ever this year. With that in mind, we'll talk about all kinds of smartphone and smartwatch ...

Hold onto your butts: it’s iPhone day. As you may have seen, my colleague Taylor Martin earlier today took delivery of Apple’s new 5.5-inch phablet the iPhone 6 Plus, which we spent a little time getting to know on today's Pocketnow Weekly podcast. As for me, well ... I’ve had my fill of big smartphones for the moment, so I opted for the lesser of two iPhones. Cutting the protective film away and lifting up the box lid carefully so as to avoid any accidents, we’re shown the device front-and-center, a presentation that’s become widespread - but don’t forget: Apple is the ...

One of the primary reasons sites like Pocketnow exist is to review and evaluate the vast array of smartphones on the market at any given time, compile our findings, and report our thoughts and observations back to you. We do the hard work and heavy lifting so you can make the most informed decision when you go to by a smartphone for yourself. If this were a static, unchanging list, the task would be fairly easy, but it's not. The smartphones available t0 buy at any given time can easily rise into the dozens for mainstream devices, and into the hundreds when looking at everything that's ...

We get it: with not just one, but two new iPhone models arriving today, emotions are running high. Apple fans have been waiting years for the chance to pick up a larger-screened handset, and between that, the promise of mobile payments, and the whole slew of other features Apple's delivering, there's plenty reason to be excited, But we'd like to take this opportunity to suggest that you new iPhone owners remember to keep your enthusiasm in check, lest you end up like the kid in the video below, introducing his brand new iPhone 6 to the pavement. Australia's in a prime location for ...

This thing is entirely too small. That was my initial impression of the very first iPhone I ever used. It was the iPhone 4 I picked up on Verizon's off-beat January launch day. Over the course of three years and two different iPhone models, my opinion never changed. I upgraded to the iPhone 4S that fall and later to the "larger" iPhone 5. Even the iPhone 5 was way too small for my tastes. It wasn't the height of the iPhone display that was the problem, but rather the width. I've always figured it's a combination of my anatomical disposition and experience with an array of other, larger ...

A little earlier this afternoon we were talking about Samsung's retail plans for its latest phablets, and in particular what kind of pricing the Note Edge might find. At the time, we mentioned how Samsung didn't give us a very tight release window for the Edge, only saying that it would be out before the end of the year. That's in contrast to what the manufacturer had revealed about the Galaxy Note 4, announcing at the time of the phone's launch that sales would get underway in October. As it turns out, even that may be too long of a wait to get this horse out of the gate, and we hear this ...

At times when the spec sheet is everything for Android smartphones, Apple and Microsoft have adopted a much different approach to hardware. We have seen Microsoft change its game recently with devices like the HTC One M8 for Windows, but that doesn't change the fact that Windows Phone requires very little hardware to run smoothly. The same can be said of iOS, and if you thought that Apple needs a V8 engine to run its new phablet, think again. As reviews of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have begun to emerge, one of the most interesting claims that we see is that both the iPhone 6 and the ...

If you believed all the iPhone rumors and leaks from the last several months, you weren't surprised when Apple announced not one, but two new handsets last week. You also weren't surprised when both of those handsets were significantly larger than the 3.5- and 4-inch iPhones of yore. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus come with 4.7- and 5.5-inch displays, respectively. For the iPhone crowd, phones that stretch your pockets and grip are something entirely new. It's something that, paired with the iOS 8 update, is sure to bring some Android converts back into the iOS fold. And it may send users ...

If you were following iPhone 6 rumors going all the way back through the beginning of the year, you were probably a little surprised to see the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus debut without a sapphire display on either of them. Reports about Apple's sapphire investment may have gone back-and-forth over whether both screen sizes would see the sapphire treatment, but surely at least one of them would end up with such an extremely scratch-resistant screen, right? Well, apparently not, and post-launch rumors attempted to frame the component's absence as a late-stage manufacturing issue. But is that ...

Being the smartphone-obsessive types that we are, we've seen more than a few cameras in our day that stick out from the handset's body. Those range from the exaggerated, like the old Nokia 808 PureView, to the minimal, like on the Nexus 5. This year, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus both sport some cameras that protrude a bit from the phones' back panels. On the grand scale of things, the bump is minimal – much more in line with the Nexus 5 than the 808. So why, then, does Apple appear to be going to some lengths to obscure the presence of that raised lens? Looking at most of the imagery ...

If you're wondering why people go so crazy on the launch date of any iPhone, it really has nothing to do with wanting to have it first on that specific day. The biggest problem is that for the longest of time, Apple has always struggled with meeting the amount of demand that it gets. We already saw how crazy the preorders went on September 12, and with Apple's online store now pushing shipments to three weeks, you can imagine the same will happen this Friday. Sources claim that Apple will struggle to meet demand of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus on September 19. The amount of units that ...

Apple is not only famous for its products and services, but also for how crazy things get whenever the company launches a new product, and specially a new iPhone. We've already heard that the company is making some dramatic changes to its Apple Store device reservation system, but it seems the company is preparing for more. Today we find new leaks that expose how Apple plans to handle the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus on September 19, and we sure hope it works. The leak claims that iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus inventories will arrive at Apple Stores on September 17th, and that ...

Last week's launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus afforded Apple the opportunity to give its smartphone lineup some hardware it had been missing for years: an NFC transceiver. While NFC has been present on Android devices going back several generations, and we've even seen it come to platforms like Windows Phone, Apple has been hesitant to follow suit. But this year was different, as Apple didn't just launch new hardware, but also its Apple Pay mobile payments system, finally giving it a solid reason to justify NFC's presence; just as you might do with Google Wallet or Softcard (née ...

When Apple announced the iPhone 5s, one of the features that was talked about the most was its A7 64-bit chip. Surely to this moment we're still struggling to find the benefits behind it, but one thing we do remember is that benchmarks completely blew away any Android competitor at the time. Still, that didn't matter with Apple's conservative approach to software, and if you're wondering how it'll be with the iPhone 6, some information has already emerged. Some early GPU benchmarks have emerged of the iPhone 6 and its new A8 chip, and the results score 21,204 points in graphics performance ...

We're just a couple of days away from Apple's official launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and with that, more details emerge on what you're getting when you unbox the phone. At the moment, we do know that the box will contain the usual stack of EarPods, Lightning connector and charger, since Apple is that predictable. What is a change though, is that it seems that Apple will bundle more software as part of your unboxing experience. Retail Store employees are reportedly being trained on the apps that will be included on every iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. If you purchased a 16GB iPhone ...

Last week, Apple announced what is arguably one of its most anticipated iPhone updates yet: the iPhone 6. As expected, though, thanks to month of rumors and leaks, the iPhone 6 comes in two different flavors. The iPhone 6 is a rather large bump in size over the iPhone 5 and 5s – from 4-inches to 4.7-inches – with a respective increase in resolution to 750p. The iPhone 6 Plus is a more dramatic increase in size to a 5.5-inch display with 1080p resolution. Both models come with most of the same hardware upgrades: an A8 chipset with a slightly faster clock speed, larger batteries, a 128GB ...

The iPhone 6 (and its bigger brother, the 6 Plus) is going to be big. And no, we don't just mean this year's arrival of the largest screens for iPhone handsets to date; this thing is selling like hotcakes. At least, that's the impression we got last week when hearing from AT&T that pre-orders for the phone had managed to outdo either of the previous two years' iPhone launches, but just how many sales are we talking about, anyway? Apple has weighed-in with some official numbers, confirming record-setting interest. In the first 24 hours of pre-orders alone, Apple fans bought over four ...

If so, you're probably in good company, with Apple fans everywhere getting ready to let the company's latest smartphones into their lives.
