Yes, yes, we know: Brandon Miniman already unboxed the cooler iPhone. And we'll give you that. With a fingerprint scanner, enhanced camera, and 64-bit A7 CPU, the iPhone 5s is definitely the more buzzworthy of today's new iOS smartphone duo. But the iPhone 5c ain't no slouch. Granted, the improvements it brings over least year's model are so marginal that it's somewhat fair to call the 5c an "iPhone 5 in a plastic case," but that plastic is a defining feature of the device. Never before has Apple released an iPhone with so many color options, and never before has it packaged it up like an ...

It's iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s launch day, and we can't think of a better way to commemorate the event than with a Pocketnow Weekly podcast. Actually, yes we can: it would be great to take a look back at Apple's pre-iPhone days with the spectacular failure that was the Motorola "iTunes phone" of 2005 - fortunately, we already took care of that yesterday. So we'll discuss the MOTOROKR E1 a little bit on today's Weekly, before delving in to the fresh new take on mobile software that Apple's iOS 7 represents. Then we'll revert back to twiddling our thumbs waiting for the UPS guy - but we'll ...

Apple's announcement of the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s last week brought to a close the flood of rumors and speculation that had been building since the day after the iPhone 5 was annouced last year. Let the iPhone 6 rumors begin!... anyway. The most popular speculation surrounding the launch was the introduction of a “cheap” iPhone which would appeal to a more global audience. Apple has had a problem on the worldwide stage for some time now. Emerging markets around the world have been adopting smartphones at a previously unprecedented rate and Apple's audience has grown, but not nearly ...

...because Apple is either stubborn or too smart to bump the screen size in a world dominated by devices that have screens of 4.5 to as big as 6.3-inches (yes, that is, according to me, tablet territory, even though I have no problems using a tablet as a phone). The HTC One mini and the Samsung Galaxy S 4 mini are the most representative devices for the “mini” category, even though they’re both larger than Apple’s flagship, the new iPhone 5S (and even the iPhone 5C, alongside the iPhone 5). Is Apple incapable of releasing a larger display-packed phone? No! Is Apple stubborn? Maybe! ...

Pre-orders for the Apple iPhone 5C -- the so called low-cost iPhone, or last year's phone in a plastic casing -- went live last Friday and fans of the brand were quick to secure a colorful unit. Today, Apple has uploaded the first 30-second TV ad starring the colorful phone. "Plastic perfected" is the title of the video and shows off, in very colorful, and color-splash-themed images, the new flavors. That aside, there's really not much else to see here, and, as far as specs are concerned, we're pretty much looking at the iPhone 5 you already have (or chose not to have). Source: Apple (YouTube)

Pocketnow Daily gets an average of 300 to 500 comments a day, and sometimes even a thousand. We'd like to thank you all for participating in our question of the day, and we love your feedback so much, that we decided that since we can't respond to ever single one of your comments, we should at least feature a couple in a weekly video. This is the Pocketnow Daily Recap. Since we only have 3 minutes on every Daily video to go through the hottest news, the weekly recap will serve as a more extensive discussion where we also include your thoughts on the subject. Sadly, for the sake of time, we ...

Watch today's Pocketnow Daily as we talk about some Nokia Insider information that mentions the use of Android on Lumia models for testing purposes before the deal with Microsoft came to be. Then we talk about HP as it's now rumored that the company will build their own Windows Phone, even though the report is quite limited. Samsung is up next as the FCC has received yet another Windows Phone for approval, and this one seems as if its going to AT&T. We then talk about the HTC One Max since hey, we're still waiting for it, and leaks in photos continue to surface. We end today's show ...

There's one fewer Romanian on this week's podcast, and we're no longer hovering over a precarious microphone stand made of empty shoeboxes and trash cans in a European hotel room - but that doesn't mean this latest episode of the Pocketnow Weekly is lacking in charm. On the contrary, we've called in a silver-tongued devil from Honduras and a smooth-talking geocacher from middle America to provide two very different perspectives on some very high-visibility smartphones. That's right: it's Apple week. That special time of year where iOS makes its way to the top of our rundown and instigates ...

As of Midnight Pacific Time (or 3 A.M. Eastern), Apple has flipped the switch on the pre-ordering process for the iPhone 5C. Announced at the September 10 special event, alongside the iPhone 5S, the iPhone 5C is basically the iPhone 5 you own today, in a colorful polycarbonate case (which generated a lot of comments, both pro and against). 16- and 32GB flavors are available for $100 and $200, respectively, as well as $550 or $650, off contract. You can choose from white, red, yellow, blue, or green flavors, and you can match them with cases as colorful as the phone itself. If you're in ...

There's no denying that the iPhone is one of the most polarizing topics in the mobile industry. Rarely do you ever find anyone who will have mixed feelings about it. People will either tell you that they love it or they hate it, and that's been a reality ever since its inception. It's hard to tell you why this is. Some people feel that the phone is too small, or the operating system is too dated, or the price tag is too high, or the lack of customizations makes it boring, and then there's another significant majority of the market that chose to buy one and never returned it. Some are even ...

Yesterday, Apple took the stage in Cupertino to unveil two new products that came at no surprise to anyone who had kept up with rumors and news, the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. It also released the Gold Master version of iOS 7 to developers and announced a release date for the official iOS 7 update for the public, September 18. For those familiar with Gold Master versions of software, it's essentially a week early preview of the public version of the software. Naturally, we loaded our iPhone 5 up with the latest iOS 7 today to provide you with a tour of what you can expect last week. The ...

The iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C weren't the only Apple news yesterday; the Cupertino-based company shared iOS 7 details, announcing that the new OS will be available to download and install as of September 18, next Wednesday. However, the Gold Master version of the platform is now available to download. GM editions are usually the exact same bits that get shipped on iPhones; we can consider them more or less final versions. The iOS 7 Gold Master is available now, given if you are a developer to download and test it, a week before the official release. For version number fans out there, we're ...

As we were all preparing for today's live coverage of Apple's iPhone event, Brandon made a statement behind the scenes that we all agreed with: "It would've been great if Steve Jobs was still around". I know that not all of you have good thoughts about Steve, or Apple for that matter, but I've always been of the mentality that we should honor people where honor is due. Apple didn't invent the GUI, and still, if it wasn't for the first Mac, we would've probably spent another decade memorizing computer commands and code. Then we saw an Apple decline without Steve, up to the point where they ...

The 2013 iPhones are now official, and we've had a few hours to process the announcements, go over all the new details Apple's made available, and start bringing you some opinions about this new hardware. Neither device is an outright game-changer, and there are sure to be plenty of people upset at what Apple didn't change, like keeping the same 4-inch 1136 x 640 display or delivering another 8-megapixel camera. On the other hand, I think there's a lot to like from these models, and a more than a few areas where Apple clearly delivered some valuable improvements. Let's take a look at five ...

The new iPhones are here, and they're easily the most colorful to date. Besides the five color options available on the iPhone 5C, even the flagship 5S plays dress-up, being available in silver, gold, or gray – actually, make that "space gray," according to Apple. As if all those base color options weren't enough for you, Apple offers even more color choices by means of official cases. The options for the 5S are crafted from "premium" leather and come in brown, beige, black, yellow, blue, and red, selling for $40 a pop. The 5C cases do things a little differently, and let the phone's ...

For those who couldn't see it coming from a mile away, Apple unveiled a new product today – two new products, actually. The iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. Rumors have pointed to the production of a cheaper, colorful iPhone for months now, as Apple can't seem to keep a lid on things anymore. As it turns out, the rumors were exactly spot-on. And the iPhone 5C is practically a cheaper version of the current iPhone 5. It features the same A6 chip, 1GB RAM, roughly the same battery life, the same display, either 16 or 32GB of storage, and a solid polycarbonate shell. And anyone who thought that ...

For the launch of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, Apple elected not to stream the event to the public. Sure, Apple set up some special links to its separate, satellite launch events in Berlin, Tokyo, and Beijing, letting those who attended there watch the action unfold in real time, but all of us stuck at home were relegated to reading live blogs of the proceedings. Even though there wasn't a live stream available at the time, Apple's finally making it available now, ready for you to catch-up. We hit most of the major points in our posts about the iOS 7 update and the iPhone 5S and 5C ...

Middle aged women are all googly and atwitter with the latest golden beauty to roll from Cupertino. It's basically awesome, and no one really knows why. I mean on the face of it, the iPhone 5(X) seems not too shabby. The “cheap” iPhone is rolling out of the factory at a mere $100 on ...

For the longest time, Apple was all about docks. First iPod docks, then iPhone docks – you'd see them on cars, in boomboxes, and of course, on your desktop itself. But then with the iPhone 5 and its abandonment of the classic 30-pin connector in favor of Apple's non-standard follow-up Lightning connector, the phone arrived with no official dock accessory to be seen, and even in the year that's followed, we never saw Apple get around to selling such a product. Today the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C got their time in the spotlight for Apple's launch event, and as the company updates its website ...

“There are some things you can't cover up with lipstick and powder.” That's a quote from singer/songwriter Elvis Costello. He's never been my favorite musician, but as he was the special musical guest at today's Apple event in Cupertino, it seemed an appropriate fit to kick off this piece on why I'm considering the lesser of two iPhones. Today, Apple broke with its long-standing tradition of releasing only a single new iPhone per year. In this morning's launch event (which we covered live via a special Editorial Roundtable), the company announced that it would replace its current ...
