Then we talk about the iPhone 5c, and how its inventories have completely disappointed Apple. Then we talk about the recent rumors that Foxconn expects 90 million iPhone 6 orders from Apple. We also go through what to expect from Apple’s A8 chip, which is rumored for the iPhone 6. Samsung follows the news as we have rumors of the price tag for the Gear 2, the Gear 2 Neo and the Gear Fit. Apple is not new to releasing products that disappoint consumers. If you don’t remember Ping, or things like the Mac Cube, hey, we don’t blame you, I’m sure the Cupertino kids would love to forget them either. That being said, mixing disappointments with an iPhone release is totally new territory, and such has been the case with the iPhone 5c.
We remember the reports that Apple had ceased orders to manufacturers for the iPhone 5c since the end of 2013, though sadly we didn’t know just how bad this was for Apple. As it turns out, new supply chain sources [...]
Ever since the official launch of iOS 7, Apple has been hard at work testing iOS 7.1. We’ve seen Cupertino launch five betas of the operating system update since mid-November, and even though we still don’t have a Gold Master candidate for developers, new reports have the update being pushed very soon due to a specific reason.
According to Daring Fireball’s Jon Grubber, Apple is planning to launch a specific app to support SXSW, but this app requires some specific features that are only available on iOS 7.1. In his words:
Apple’s first iTunes [...]
We’ve seen a ton of leaks of what iOS in the car is going to be like on iOS 7.1, but none of us were quite sure of how Apple was planning to implement it. Some assumed that the company would build a specific version of iOS that would work on your dashboard, and others expected this to be a special “Car mode” that you could activate on your iPhone. As it turns out, iOS in the Car was named “CarPlay” today, and it’ll be something a little different than expected.
So CarPlay is actually a service that will launch on new Ferrari, Honda, Hyundai, [...]
One of the most common trends that you’ll notice in today’s market, is that it’s very odd to see iPhone users leaving the platform for something else. I’ve personally seen cases of people doing so, and then coming back just a few months later. Some people are locked-in due to the amount of purchases that they’ve made on Apple’s various online stores, and others simply because they want to stick to what they know. All this said, a recent study was conducted to 2,000 iPhone users in the UK, and more than half of them admit [...]
Watch today’s Pocketnow Daily as we talk about Samsung’s launch of more Galaxy S 4 variants with faux leather. Then we talk about the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, and some camera issues that customers are facing. The iPhone 5c makes the news next as one just caught fire on a teenager. We then go through all three of the conflicting rumors of the HTC M8, and the features it might include. We end today’s show as we talk about the iWatch, and Apple’s different investments to make it unique.
All this and more after the break.
Stories: – Samsung [...]
We’ve seen cases here and there of cellphones catching fire for various reasons. Whether it’s happened due to a cheap battery replacement, or bad component reassembly, or the use of a cheap cable to charge the phone as well, these are all the most common reasons. Now in a case that happened yesterday, a 13-year-old’s iPhone 5c caught fire and it wasn’t due to any of these reasons.
This unnamed teenager from Kennebunk, Maine had barely owned the iPhone 5c for two months, which makes it obvious that the phone was not repaired in any way, and since the phone [...]
Apple’s results last quarter have proven to shock more than few of us. Just recently we learned that the iPad actually gained global marketshare for the first time in a while last quarter, which is extremely difficult in a world full of $200 tablets. Now it seems that even the iPhone broke some records in sales last quarter when compared to its direct competition.
Two quarters ago, Samsung’s 38% of US smartphone market share had surpassed Apple’s 34%, something which proved to be a great achievement for Samsung, given how popular the iPhone is in the United [...]
Ever since the launch of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c we’ve seen every US carrier fight a hard battle in offering the best deals possible to gain new iPhone customers. From gift cards, to discounts, to additional incentives, we’ve seen aggressive things can get. Still, if you thought the holiday discounts were good, there’s a new one that’s just unbeatable.
Virgin Mobile has just announced that it’s slashing the unsubsidized price of the 16GB iPhone 5s to $459.99, which is down from the usual $649.99 that you’ll see everywhere else. In the case [...]

BlackBerry is next as we go through its 10.2.1 update, and all the significant changes you look-out for. Nokia and Microsoft are next as rumors have Windows Phone 8.1 making a debut in a lot of Lumia devices during MWC. We later go through Apple’s quarter results and how everything performed well, except the iPhone 5c. We end today’s show by talking about Apple’s patents for interchangeable lenses and the iPen.
Apple’s launch of the iPhone 5c along with the iPhone 5s took the world by surprise, but not really a positive one. Most of us still can’t understand why Apple launched a “budget iPhone” that’s too expensive to compete with the budget market. As a result, Apple’s quarter earnings call had something to say about the iPhone 5c, and it wasn’t positive.
According to Tim Cook, “the iPhone 5c was popular among first-time iPhone buyers, but not as popular as expected”. It’s clear that you don’t need a degree in Rocket [...]
