If you compare today's smartphones with the best handsets offered four or five years ago, it's truly astounding how far everything has come. Yesterday, I briefly explained in an editorial about a rumored Ultrapixel camera that mobile hardware and performance have began to transcend the boundaries of the limitations often associated with mobile technology. Rarely, however, do we stop and think about how powerful our pocket-sized computers truly are. But with mobile processors clocked at speeds that rival some full-fledged computers and featuring anywhere from two to eight cores, pinhole ...

So you jailbroke your iPhone or iPad after the evasi0n jailbreak process was released last week, but you discovered that it just wasn't for you. You prefer the stock feel of iOS over the seemingly never-ending sea of mods and tweaks. There's nothing to be ashamed of, and there's no reason to fret, even if you didn't backup before jailbreaking … like you should have. The unjailbreaking method is relatively quick and very easy. All you need is iTunes, your Lightning or 30-pin cable and your iDevice. A couple clicks and no more than a half-hour later, and you will be back ...

We've all been there. You pull your phone out of your pocket and notice something is off. Slide past the lock screen and you notice that, for whatever reason, your phone is back to factory settings. (For the record, I have had this happen with every mobile OS I have used to date.) Or maybe you have lost a phone. Having to go through the motions to get your phone back to how it should be is never a fun process. It's time consuming, and sometimes important information is gone forever, irrecoverable. Fortunately, there is a solution – precautionary steps that prevent sensitive or important ...

With as complex as modern operating systems are, it's quite commonplace that the release of a new update, especially one going out to millions of users running a whole bunch of different devices, ends up causing a few unexpected glitches. That's especially true for Apple, with all the different iPhone and iPad models each release of iOS supports. With the recent arrival of iOS 6.1, it looks like just such a problem has crept up on owners of the iPhone 4S, upon reports coming in of issues with 3G connectivity. Carrier Vodafone has posted a message to its forums warning users of an issue ...

To Jailbreak or not to Jailbreak, that's the question we've received everywhere for the last 24 hours since Evasi0n was released, and we do understand the concerns of many of you. The fact of the matter is that it's really a matter of personal preference, and while some may be extremely inclined to do it because of their daily needs of their iPhone or iPad, some users don't really use their iOS products in a way that would warrant it. Jailbreaking an iPhone is very different to rooting an Android device. On Android, rooting allows you to load custom ROMs that enable you to really push the ...

After previously allowing for audio messages to be sent from one Facebook Messenger user to the other, the company has now flipped the switch on free calling. AT&T drew a lot of heat last year when it imposed some artificial limitations on how users would be able to use Apple's FaceTime while pulling their data over the carrier's cellular network. Sure, being able to use FaceTime over cellular at all was nice, but only if you happened to be rocking one of AT&T's new shared data plans. Following some well-deserved complaints from its subscribers, AT&T started allowing less restrictive access to FaceTime, but still had some wonky rules in place, like how users on tiered data plans could use FaceTime with an iPhone 5 and its LTE ...
