iOS 6 Maps was "the most beautiful, powerful mapping service ever", that is when you only looked at it on paper; once you started to actually use the offering it quickly became obvious that the service didn't deliver, by far in some regions, the experience advertised (and expected). Tim Cook officially apologized for falling short on “delivering the best experience possible" to customers with iOS 6 Maps; Apple went as far as to recommend competing solutions until its own offering became better (competitive). After the acknowledgement the description of Maps has also been changed on ...

After a very bumpy start (to say the least) for Apple's own mapping solution inside iOS 6 (and on the iPhone 5), users are waiting eagerly for an official Google Maps application to ease the pain. Until Apple fixes the terrible experience, iPhone 5 users can also wait for a Google Maps port for iOS 6. Eric Schmidt, Google's Executive Chairman, recently said that the Mountain View-based company has made no plans in terms of a dedicated Maps application for the iPhone 5 (iOS 6). "We think it would have been better if they had kept ours. But what do I know? What were we going to do, force ...

The iPhone 5 is not the only new buzz-word; iOS 6 is the platform powering it and, while some love it, others prefer iOS 5, even our resident "iPhone guy", Jaime Rivera. The next version of iOS 6, landing on September 19, contains a lot of features but unfortunately not all of them are available in all regions. If you head over to the source link below you will land on an official Apple page which describe features and their availability, by region. Obviously U.S. users will receive the entire package with all features and functionalities available. People living in other countries where ...

Apple is trying to distance itself from Google and, aside from ditching Google Maps for its own mapping solution, it has also removed the YouTube app from iOS 6 Beta 4, a pretty good indication that it will be left out in the final version of iOS 6. However, since YouTube is such a strong video sharing community, the folks over at Google just announced its brand new, stand-along application for the iPhone. The app is built in such manner that it will offer "the best mobile experience". Unfortunately the application is not designed for the high resolution of the iPad, even though it will ...

Apple's got a habit of announcing new lower-end hardware alongside its cutting-edge gear; back around when the iPhone 4S first came out, we learned of a new 8GB version of the iPhone 4. A new rumor suggests that history will repeat itself, and the announcement of the iPhone 5 will accompany a similar re-shuffling of older iPhone models. Supposedly, Apple would finally drop the 8GB 3GS as its lowest-end model, replacing it with the already-available 8GB iPhone 4. That part's not hard to believe at all, considering the age of the 3GS and its current level of software support. Apple might ...

After updating the Facebook client for the iPhone and the iPad -- with a revamped, faster experience -- Facebook has now refreshed its Messenger program to bring a couple of neat features for those who keep in touch using the social networks' messaging offering. The new version brings bugfixes alongside the ability to add smileys, hearts and other emoji to messages, tappable person name at the top of your conversation that takes you to their Facebook Timeline, the ability of seeing who's active lets you and your friends know how soon to expect a reply, and an improved "new message" sound. ...

I'll start by immediately telling you that this is not the iPhone 5, but it does look like a prototype from the early days of the iPhone 4, way before Gizmodo. This N90AP prototype is now being sold on eBay, and you'll notice that aside from having a very weird back, which you can easily do by buying some back replacements on eBay, it does have some screws in different areas when compared to the final iPhone 4 product released. It also has a different UI when compared to iOS. It seems to be more of a prototype to test specific iPhone hardware features and not a device that will test ...

This is probably not the best time to get an iPhone, since we're probably just a month or two away from Apple's next generation smartphone. That said, if you're in urgent need to get one, that doesn't mean that devices like the iPhone 4S won't remain relevant for at least another year or two. As carriers begin doing their best to boost sales during the slowest season of the year, Sprint took the lead by dropping as much as $86 from any iPhone that you purchase in their network after a two-year contract. That involves dropping $50 off the price tag, and then waving the $36 activation fee. ...

iOS6 will bring a lot of new features (despite the fact that many are expecting a brand new user interface), at least from what Apple have shown and told us. Of course, there might be some more exciting stuff being held from us in order to show off with the occasion of the iPhone event. However, Apple introduced a nice little feature in the Mail app, as spotted by BGR. If you conversation view (thread) is getting too long, you have to pull in order to expand the collapsed email and it will display more. In order to visualize this, check out the image above. It's pretty much similar to ...

Despite the fact that the numbers are looking really good, Apple's financial results for the second quarter of 2012 fall short of some expectations mainly because of speed bumps in the European economy as well as slightly worse iPhone sales. The fruit company managed to sell 26 million iPhones and 17 million iPads in Q2. However, iPhone sales are lower than expected and, according to the company, rumors of the next iPhone are hurting smartphone sales. The same thing happened last year with the iPhone 4 where many future owners refrained from purchasing one on the eve of the iPhone 4S ...

Those running the third beta of iOS 6 noticed that Apple will make it easier to update applications and install free ones by removing an extra step necessary in the current iteration of the platform. Passwords will no longer be required for installation of free applications. The user will also no longer be required to enter their iTunes password when updating an application already installed, regardless if it is free or purchased/commercial. Currently the system is asking you for authentication but in iOS 6, whenever tapping a free product in the AppStore in order to install it, the button ...

There are quite a lot of people who like to combine the best of both worlds and using Gmail on your iOS-powered device, let it be iPhone or iPad, is just one example. However, the Gmail app for iOS is lacking functionality compared to the Android flavor but there's an update available in the App Store that tries to close the gap. Probably the most important addition is Notification Center support with options for banners, alerts and lock screen notifications. You no longer have to open the application to check for e-mails, you can finally be notified if you have one right on your lock ...

There's a lot to celebrate about iOS 6. Brandon's recent editorial highlights the top 5 features we found most interesting, but after testing the first beta just a couple of days later, not everything has been fun and games. I could certainly add a ton of additional reasons why I consider that the OS matters, but today, it's time to talk about the five reasons why I'm disappointed. Let’s start this list with a disclaimer though. There's nothing in these five disappointments that considers iOS either superior or inferior to other platforms. There's no such thing as a perfect operating ...
