Not everyone sees the world in the same way. Of course that's plainly obvious if you've ever spent time in the dungeons comment sections of the internet, but it's easy to forget that it's also true in a literal sense. Not everyone sees or hears the same way you might … and that's as true for smartphone users as for anyone else. So what kind of considerations go into buying and using today's mobile technology products when you're visually impaired? What kind of brand wars exist in the world of the blind? Are we going in the right direction with audio cues and glass screens, or were the ...

Last month, alongside the iPad Air announcement, Apple also announced the iPad mini with Retina Display. Unlike the original mini, this new model comes with practically all the same specs as its larger sibling: the A7, 1GB RAM, and, of course, the Retina Display. This time around, instead of keeping the same pricing scale, Apple dropped the price of last year's model by only $30 and bumped the base price of the current iPad mini lineup by $70, making the base price of the new iPad mini $399. Is this mini iPad worth the extra cash? Should you just splurge a bit to get the full-sized iPad ...

When Apple introduced the iPad mini with Retina Display, together with the last-gen full-size iPad, called iPad Air, the company didn't make an announcement regarding the availability of the improved mini slate. There's been a lot of speculation on the delay, and there were even reports claiming that display burn-in issues are preventing the smaller iPad from being available. You can now order the iPad mini with Retina Display from the Apple Store. You can choose from Space Gray and Silver, 16, 32, 64, and 128GB storage options, as well as WiFi-only or Cellular-enabled variants. Prices ...

Fun fact: flame wars, petty bickering, and troll hijinks aren't just confined to the online world; they find a ready home in corporate tactics as well. That's a reality we were reminded of this week, as Apple announced its new iPad family on the same day Nokia unveiled not just its first Windows-based tablet, but also the first-ever Windows Phone phablets, at its Nokia World event in Abu Dhabi. Predictably, the Apple news obliterated Nokia's announcement in the news cycle - but, the Pocketnow Weekly being a platform-agnostic, equal-opportunity podcast, we're gonna cover both new device ...

There's no surprise in the fact that everyone who wanted an iPad mini last year, wants the Retina iPad mini a lot more this year, simply because of the enhancements in the display. It's really hard to predict just how popular this tablet will be though, since its steep price pulls it away form any competition with the Nexus 7, and instead makes it compete with much bigger tablets. That could be a signal for low demand for the Retina iPad mini, but even if there was a high demand for it, it seems that Apple isn't expecting it. According to a KGI Securities analyst, this new tablet will be ...

When Steve Jobs announced the iPad in 2010, I do remember that he never really used the phrase “Apple is re-inventing the tablet” as he did when the company launched the iPhone. Still, Apple’s bet in actually focusing on portability and affordability to make this tablet a mainstream product, and not a niche and expensive one, like Microsoft had, was a bold bet all together. We all panned the iPad when it was announced. I remember that it took me a full 11 months to decide to buy one, simply because I found no reason to buy a big smartphone. I kept repeating to myself that I didn’t ...
