Apple's launch of iOS 8.1 yesterday marks the completion of Apple's promise for what iOS 8 should've always been since we saw it announced at WWDC 2014. Apple spent a great deal of time announcing products like iCloud Drive, Apple Pay and Continuity, but none of these services worked as they should until this new "dot" update. It also includes a ton of the bug fixes that customers asked for after the launch of iOS 8. Make sure you walk our first impressions video of how iOS 8.1 enhances your experience with an Apple mobile device. Services like Continuity intend to give Apple customers an ...

We've talked about iOS 8 and all the new and useful features plenty of times now, but we haven't had the chance to focus on those individual features and, more importantly, the third-party support for said features. One of our favorites, which actually surprised us, was the introduction of widgets in the Today section of Notification Center. These widgets display different types of at-a-glance information, provide shortcuts to different features or settings, and even help your remember things. There are dozens (maybe even hundreds or thousands) of applications which have been updated with ...

Those that predicted the fall of Apple after the passing of Steve Jobs might have spent the last couple of quarters frustrated. The company has shown positive growth over the last couple of years, even at times when we all criticized its reluctance to adopt new market trends. Apple has just published its Q4 2014 results, and with numbers that shock Cupertino's own expectations. Apple has just announced that it made a staggering $42.1 billion in revenue, which is up from $37.5 billion in the same quarter last year, and with a net quarterly profit of $8.5 billion, which is also up from $7.5 ...

It's been a busy week of high-profile device launches form a couple of the companies behind the biggest platforms in mobile, with both Apple and Google showing off their latest hardware. Besides getting to know these new models themselves, we were also informed about how initial sales for the lot of them would begin. We may still be a couple weeks away from the start of Nexus 6 pre-orders, but the rest of this crew is already lining up to take your money, as pre-orders get underway for the Nexus 9, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 3. Google's set to open Nexus 9 Play Store pre-orders at some ...

Apple may have not invented the tablet computer, nor may have it been the first company to launch a fully functional product to the world. Still, that doesn't change the fact that the launch of the original iPad left a dent big enough that almost every competitor has followed in Apple's footsteps. Love it or hate it, Apple's iPad lineup remains king in the tablet world, and today we get a glimpse of its future. Today's event was full of iPads, though we wish we could say that all of them were new. Sadly not everything announced today was hot, and that's the main reason we keep our "Love ...

Today was Apple’s day to breathe new life into a slowly stagnating lineup of iPads that … do exactly what the original iPad did, only faster. Going into today’s announcements, we were told we might see something new, something potentially game-changing. Rumors suggested there could be an iPad Pro (or Plus) with a 12.9-inch display. Theories about what the larger iPad would entail have varied from “not much else” to a full-on Mac OS tablet or a device that could switch between iOS and Mac OS on the fly. Either way, that didn’t happen today. Instead, today’s iPad announcement ...

It's easy to look at today's iPad mini 3 announcement and come away wanting a little more: a newer SoC, perhaps, or something beyond Touch ID to make it stand out a little better from last year's iPad mini with Retina display. For now, though, it still represents the pinnacle of Apple's shrunken-down tablet lineup, and likely will for the year to come - so we'd better start getting familiar with. If you're already intimately acquainted with last year's iPad mini specs, this is going to sound a little like a broken record, but for those of you new to the party, read on to get a taste for ...

We were expecting two tablets at Apple event this afternoon, and following the company spending some time showing off the new iPad Air 2, it's time for the day's second tablets, as Apple turns the spotlight on its latest pint-sized tablet, the iPad mini 3. Like the Air 2, the new mini is available in three colors this year, adding gold to its options. Screen size remains at 7.9 inches (along with the 2048 x 1536 resolution) and the 5MP camera is back. Physical dimensions are unchanged from the iPad mini 2, and the iPad mini 3 runs the same A7 SoC as the previous generation - no A8X here. ...

With the new Nexus hardware announced, it's time for the shortest of breathers before we move right into this week's next big launch, as Apple gears up for tomorrow's press event. A new iPad is practically assured, with the big questions concerning just which model (or models) would take the stage. We'll have our official answer in just about a day, but Apple may have let the cat out of the bag a little early, as the company itself seems to have leaked confirmation that an iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 are just about to drop. The company just published its iOS 8.1 user guide for the iPad, and ...

After all the IFA launches last month, not to mention the headline-grabbing debut of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, you might have expected mobile device manufacturers to take a little break, gather their thoughts, and meditate on their strategies for dominating the holiday season. But no, oh no: we find ourselves smack-dab in the midst of another busy period of events. HTC's got its “double exposure” announcement later today, Sony has something to share with us tomorrow, and there's that Oppo N3 launch coming at the end of the month. But between this week's news and that N3 action, there's ...

We're expecting big iPad news from Apple in an October event, with the exact date standing at October 16 based on the rumor mill (if previously-reliable sources are to be trusted). With the fact that we're closing in on that date, it's only natural that we start seeing the pace of the rumor mill pick up. And that's exactly what we've got with a new report from The Michael Report (no, not that Michael), which states that the next-gen iPad Air 2 will supposedly take the designation "world's thinnest tablet," as well as drop the 16GB storage capacity. Supposedly, there'll be a 0.5mm ...

Around this time last year, Apple made its most anticipated iPad upgrades yet: the iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display. Both were the thinnest, lightest iPads yet, packing more horsepower and better displays than ever before. Rumor has it, this year’s iPad announcement is just weeks away and what we might be looking at is piquing the interests of iPad users all around. As a long time iPad user and having recently departed with my iPad mini with Retina display, I’m definitely looking forward to the announcement. What should you expect? What are we hoping for? Below, I’ve ...

By most accounts, Apple is half-done with its 2014 mobile hardware launches. The other week brought us news of new iPhones and the company's first smartwatch designs, leaving us to wait for word of the next iPads at a separate event – one that some sources suggest could come as soon as next month. But just what would this iPad launch bring us? A few ideas for the new hardware have been mentioned, including a second-gen iPad Air, third-gen iPad mini, and maybe even a giant 12.9-inch model called the iPad Pro. The iPad Air 2's the easy money, but what about the other two? A new report ...

All things considered, Apple's launch event last week very much delivered on our expectations for new hardware. Yes, the release of the Apple Watch is still months away, but at least Apple announced the wearable. And while rumors had been on the fence about whether we'd see both iPhone 6 sizes launch simultaneously, Apple came through with the pair. The only thing we didn't get was news about this year's iPad line, but even with late-stage rumors suggesting there could be a joint launch event, Apple's modus operandi has been to keep such launches separate. So when is the new iPad going to ...
