Watch today's Pocketnow Daily as we talk about Microsoft's bash on their own Surface RT, and their hope that the Surface 2 can do better. Amazon and HTC are next as both companies are already hard at work at bringing us their first smartphone collaboration. Nokia is next as apparently the company is working on bringing us their first music player, dubbed the Nokia Guru. We then talk about the Nexus 4, which is rumored to stay alive for another year along the Google Nexus 5. We end today's show talking about Apple's October 22nd event, and some of our predictions that involve a lot of iPad. ...

Apple's invites for next Tuesday's event are out, and unless we've been totally reading this all wrong, a shiny new iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 are likely to make their debuts. We won't deny that it's great to get that confirmation out of the way (so we're not sitting around through another no-show, as developed with today's Nexus 5 rumors), but there are still more iPad dates to uncover: even if these guys launch on October 22, when would Apple actually make the pair available for sale. We've heard one theory making the rounds today, but not everyone's so sure it's worth believing. According ...

How are we doing on October launch rumors so far? HTC showed up a day earlier than expected with the One Max, we're already drifting into afternoon and there's no sign of a Nexus 5 launch today, and next week's Nokia World event – well, that's been solidly confirmed for a while now. The one other biggie that's been hanging over our heads has been Apple, with word that it could finally be ready to introduce its new iPad tablets next week. We've been talking about our expectations that if that rumor really was accurate, we'd be seeing invitations go out about a week in advance – which ...

October 22 is the rumored date for Apple's next iPad event, and we're yet to see an official invite going out, one week before the reported date, as of today. If the event happens, Apple is expected to unveil its next generation iPad tablets, both full-sized, and mini form-factors. As far as the iPad mini 2 is concerned, some reports claim that the Retina Display, one of the downsides of the iPad mini (the lack of the Retina, to be specific), will not happen for the next iPad mini. On the contrary, other reports are certain that the iPad mini 2 will indeed have a high-resolution screen, ...

Of all the ways Apple may improve upon the first iPad mini with this year's iPad mini 2 – presumed to launch in just about a week – the tablet's display has always been at the top of the list. It seems like from the very moment the 1024 x 768 screen on last year's model was confirmed, Apple fans have been wondering when the iPad mini would get the Retina display treatment. With the clock ticking down until Apple's announcement, we see the arrival of an odd theory, suggesting that Apple might release an iPad mini with processor improvements this fall, and delay a Retina model until next ...

Apple is next as we have some leaked high-quality photos of the iPad 5 and what to expect. We then go through Microsoft's Windows Phone 8.1, and the design limitations that Microsoft is imposing on OEMs. We end today's show by talking about how Microsoft is now encouraging OEMs to offer options to dual-boot Android in their Windows Phone and Windows RT products. All this and more after the break. ...

HTC is next as the company is now teasing their HTC Max event to happen next week, aside from some leaked screenshots of HTC Sense 5.5. The Google Nexus 5 is next as we get a very interesting pricing scheme that is sure to make a lot of users happy. Apple's iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 are next as we have a possible event date that is matching some other important dates, and we're sure there's an intended coincidence. We end today's show talking about the ...

Apple clearly has a new iPad and iPad mini waiting in the wings. It's coming up on a year since the last iterations of those tablets were launched, and all summer we've been fielding leak after leak of this new hardware. All that's remained is for Apple to finally pull back the curtain and make this pair official. We've been expecting that to happen this fall – and maybe even this month, in particular – but a hard date has been difficult to come by. We heard October 15 mentioned, but lacked confidence in the news, and failed to find any confirmation for it. Now, another slightly later ...

Pocketnow Daily gets an average of 300 to 500 comments a day, and sometimes even a thousand. We’d like to thank you all for participating in our question of the day, and we love your feedback so much, that we decided that since we can’t respond to ever single one of your comments, we should at least feature a couple in a weekly video. This is the Pocketnow Daily Recap. Since we only have 3 minutes on every Daily video to go through the hottest news, the weekly recap will serve as a more extensive discussion where we also include your thoughts on the subject. Sadly, for the sake of ...

Google is next as an Open Project demo shows us how we can share our smartphone display with other monitors in an easy fashion. We then continue with the iPad 5 and some thickness changes according to leaks, aside from other leaks pointing to a gold iPad mini with Touch ID, but missing a more important feature. We end today's show talking about iOS 7.0.2, and Apple's recent hire of ...

When it comes to leaks of iPad mini 2 hardware, we haven't exactly been left wanting. Indeed, along with the iPad 5, we've had plenty of opportunities to check out components attributed to this year's mini refresh. While we've had enough chances to see the tablet's rear panel, more recently rumors have been talking about what might be happening around front, with the suggestion that Apple could be giving its new tablets the same Touch ID fingerprint scanner we find in the iPhone 5S. Today we might just get our first evidence confirming that idea, as well as a look at a possible gold ...

Apple seems to have a growing appreciation for synthetic sapphire as a material for use in portable electronics. Its affinity has expanded from just using the material for the iPhone 5's camera covering to playing the role of the new home button for the iPhone 5S, concealing the TouchID fingerprint scanner. We've already heard that Apple might not want to go so far as to use full-on sapphire displays, having already experimented with the idea but ultimately passing, but we could very well see the material expand its presence in Apple's lineup a little, as a new rumor suggests that sapphire ...

Last week brought us pretty much just the Apple news we were expecting: launch announcements for the iPhone 5S, and 5C, as well as details on distribution of iOS 7. Despite some rumors in the weeks leading up to the event that Apple might ultimately bring along some new iPads, as well, that idea was once again dismissed before we even made it into September. But that just leaves the question hanging: when will Apple go official with the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2? We've yet to see Apple distribute any invitations, but a new rumor claims to have some early insight into the company's plans, ...

All the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C fire didn't even burn out completely and we're seeing, yet again, rumors and leaks regarding Apple's upcoming tablets: the next full-sized iPad (iPad 5), and the iPad mini refresh (iPad mini 2?). There are not details accompanying the images which are claimed to be legit. There's also no way to verify whether the snaps are legit or not, but they seem to confirm what we were already suspecting: an iPad mini-like next iPad (and we're specifically talking about the design). You can see a purported image of the two tablets side-by-side above, and stacked below. ...

For weeks now, we've been looking forward to September 10 as the date when Apple will announce its next iPhone hardware. It's still far from official, mind you, but that's been the predominant way rumors have been pointing. While that launch event would likely include the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, we haven't heard very strong assertions that new iPads would similarly make appearances, and Apple might be looking to a separate event, a little later on, in order to launch those models. Now a brief mention in a new Bloomberg report has us reconsidering that, and wondering if tablets might not ...

Psst. Hey. You want some insider Apple info? Schematics of unreleased hardware? Pre-launch images of new designs? Because man, oh, man... There used to be a time when Apple was the kid to beat when it came to being the best at keeping a lid on leaks. From in-house security, to making sure nothing slipped-out during manufacturing, it did a pretty great job at keeping us guessing. Sure, there was the occasional lapse – probably none more notable than the iPhone 4 that an Apple engineer accidentally left behind in a California bar – but that was the exception that proved the rule. That ...

Is it too soon to start getting worried about Apple? Sure, the company has more money than some small governments, and despite the inroads Android has been making upon the mobile scene, there's probably no group more loyal to an electronics manufacturer than Apple's fanbase. That seemingly solid foundation aside, I've been left scratching my head when it comes to some of what we've been hearing about upcoming Apple hardware, and I've really been wondering if Apple's lost sight a bit of the sort devices it needs to keep its brand relevant. Most recently, that's been most true when it comes ...

We've been talking a bunch about what to expect from the iPad mini 2 in recent days, with a lot of the focus being placed on details of the new tablet's display. While we hear clashing accounts of hardware specifics, there really hasn't been much in the way of photographic evidence to check out. We saw some pics that just might be the tablet's rear shell back in February, but things have been quiet in recent months. Today there's some fresh meat to pore over, with another look at possible iPad mini 2 hardware. This news comes to us via the same source as yesterday’s iPad 5 pics, and we ...

Leaked images of unreleased Apple hardware have a tendency to arrive a little piecemeal; we'll get a shot or two of something, then a close-up look at some components a few days later, or maybe a long string where we see nothing new. There may not be any more of a rhyme nor reason to the assortment today, but we do have the pleasure of bringing you some more of this business, with new leaks targeting both the iPhone 5C and iPad 5. First up: a bunch of pics that supposedly show off the iPad 5's frame. We've seen images purporting to be this hardware a while back, but this is a much more ...

The idea of an iPad mini 2 seemed so simple: take the first iPad mini we like so much, then give it a higher-resolution Retina-quality display, and maybe bump it up to Apple's SoC du jour. Then just a few weeks ago we got tossed a bit of a curve ball, with a new rumor claiming that a display upgrade wasn't necessarily a key part of the mini 2 – that is, while we might get a tablet just like we were expecting, there could also be a new iPad mini that doesn't get a Retina screen. Sure enough, we're back in that neighborhood today, upon the discovery of some iOS 7 files that might just ...

The year started off so strongly when it came to rumors of the follow-up to Apple's first iPad mini, presumably upgrading the pint-sized tablet to feature a Retina-quality display. We heard that the new mini might launch sometime in March... but then we were moving back to sometime in the fall... then it was April... and lately we've been returning to the idea of a fall launch, once again. Now there are claims that won't new iPad mini at all this year, and that the Retina display might not be a part of (all) the upgrades. Well, to be fair, it sounds like Retina is still on the table, but ...

With a new iPhone, a new iPad, and the debut of the iPad mini, Apple pretty much refreshed its whole mobile iOS product lineup last fall. While that normally might have us thinking that we'd have another full year to wait before getting word of new products, Apple had already exhibited signs of wanting to speed up device cycles, dropping two brand new iPads just a matter of months apart. This year, rumors have similarly looked to the idea of Apple announcing new iOS devices sooner rather than later, but so far nothing like that's come to pass. With summer just around the corner, we've ...

Apple's releases of each major version of iOS have all concentrated on WWDC, which makes a lot of sense since this is the World Wide Developers Conference that happens every year in June. As is obvious, iOS 7 was planned to be released on those dates, but that's actually only two months away if you think of it. Sources very close to Apple have begun the rumor that Apple is running behind on the development of the OS. Apparently the company is even using resources from OS X in their future 10.9 update (which sometimes varies in its release between WWDC and the fall) in order to reach the ...
