Last week brought us pretty much just the Apple news we were expecting: launch announcements for the iPhone 5S, and 5C, as well as details on distribution of iOS 7. Despite some rumors in the weeks leading up to the event that Apple might ultimately bring along some new iPads, as well, that idea was once again dismissed before we even made it into September. But that just leaves the question hanging: when will Apple go official with the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2? We've yet to see Apple distribute any invitations, but a new rumor claims to have some early insight into the company's plans, ...

All the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C fire didn't even burn out completely and we're seeing, yet again, rumors and leaks regarding Apple's upcoming tablets: the next full-sized iPad (iPad 5), and the iPad mini refresh (iPad mini 2?). There are not details accompanying the images which are claimed to be legit. There's also no way to verify whether the snaps are legit or not, but they seem to confirm what we were already suspecting: an iPad mini-like next iPad (and we're specifically talking about the design). You can see a purported image of the two tablets side-by-side above, and stacked below. ...

Yesterday, we were talking about Apple's launch plans for the new iPad 5 (and iPad Mini 2, by all accounts), and the idea that surfaced in a new Bloomberg report that Apple could have these new tablets ready to introduce on September 10, along with the new iPhones. This flew counter to what we had been hearing, but from a source like Bloomberg, it was hard to fully dismiss. Well, while we were left not knowing whom to trust, insiders a little more plugged-in to Apple have heard the same reports, and are soundly rejecting them. The Loop's Jim Dalrymple responded to that Bloomberg rumor in a ...

For weeks now, we've been looking forward to September 10 as the date when Apple will announce its next iPhone hardware. It's still far from official, mind you, but that's been the predominant way rumors have been pointing. While that launch event would likely include the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, we haven't heard very strong assertions that new iPads would similarly make appearances, and Apple might be looking to a separate event, a little later on, in order to launch those models. Now a brief mention in a new Bloomberg report has us reconsidering that, and wondering if tablets might not ...

Psst. Hey. You want some insider Apple info? Schematics of unreleased hardware? Pre-launch images of new designs? Because man, oh, man... There used to be a time when Apple was the kid to beat when it came to being the best at keeping a lid on leaks. From in-house security, to making sure nothing slipped-out during manufacturing, it did a pretty great job at keeping us guessing. Sure, there was the occasional lapse – probably none more notable than the iPhone 4 that an Apple engineer accidentally left behind in a California bar – but that was the exception that proved the rule. That ...

When it comes to spottings of the in-development iPad 5, we've had plenty of looks at cases and pieces of the tablet's body. Back in April, we even got to see what sure looked like the front panel to the device, though lacking any display. Today, we return to the same subject, looking at another front panel, this time in black, and with what appears to be the touch screen hardware in place. You'll note the flex cables for the digitizer sticking out from the edges here, though now split into two instead of a single lead. The overall design matches what we've seen before – basically a ...

We've been flocked with rumors of an iPad 5 and an iPhone 5C in photos recently, and even though we're mostly sold with the idea of the iPad 5, since it's only natural that Apple retains the same design elements of the iPad mini in their future generation tablet, it's hard to grasp the concept of the iPhone 5C, and specially when the housing of the phone looks like a gigantic iPhone 5 case. Still, we continue to see leaks on these products, and this time we find them both on video, which just makes the claims a bit more credible. These videos don't vary in what we've already seen from ...

Leaked images of unreleased Apple hardware have a tendency to arrive a little piecemeal; we'll get a shot or two of something, then a close-up look at some components a few days later, or maybe a long string where we see nothing new. There may not be any more of a rhyme nor reason to the assortment today, but we do have the pleasure of bringing you some more of this business, with new leaks targeting both the iPhone 5C and iPad 5. First up: a bunch of pics that supposedly show off the iPad 5's frame. We've seen images purporting to be this hardware a while back, but this is a much more ...

I've always been a huge fan of the Matrix Trilogy, and I'm sure many of you are as well. There's one thing I always remember the Oracle telling Neo when things began to get rough, and it was: "Everything that has a beginning must have an end". And it's true, regardless of where you heard the phrase, it's a fact of life that what goes up, must come down at some point. It happened to Apple in the early 80s, to IBM early last decade, to HP just a couple of years ago, to Palm in that same time period, Nokia, you name it. It's hard to determine what we should classify as basic human needs, ...

The iPad is due for a refresh soon and some alleged leaked iPad 5 schematics unveil a thinner case. We've speculated in the past that the new iPad will most probably borrow the looks of the iPad mini. Today's leaked iPad 5 schematics, if legit, seem to confirm just that. About the only dimension that can be seen on the drawing is the thickness: 7.9mm. However, this figure does not include the screen, so the final product could be somewhat thicker. Depending on the measurements of the screen and glass itself, it will either be somewhat thinner than the current iPad, or, at least, at the ...

iOS 7 is one of those things that you'll either love, hate, or simply put-up with if you already own an iOS device. Some of us have been waiting for it for a long time. In full honesty, I think I was ready for a change even before Apple announced that there would be an iPad running it. Apple did a good job in polishing it and to keep me as their customer, but 2013 had to be a year of change for me, or else. Some people hated the previous version of iOS for Apple's choice in design, but I'll admit that I actually liked it. As fake as it could be, it did a good job in looking elegant on my ...

Update: Due to technical difficulties, Stephen Schenck will not be able to join the Hangout today. Topic Next up on the list of major players to hold an event is the iPhone-maker. Apple WWDC 2013 is happening on Monday, June 10, and there have been lots of rumors, some even conflicting, regarding the event. Tim Cook almost confirmed iOS 7 for Apple WWDC 2013 and we know for quite some time that Johnny Ive is working on the project. Will it be something completely new or just a flatter version of iOS 6 is yet unknown. Then there are rumors of Apple's upcoming, alleged, streaming radio ...

What's going to happen at WWDC 2013? Sure, iOS 7 is a given, but beyond that there's a whole lot less certainty. New services sound possible, but actual new hardware is a tougher proposition to push. Sure, rumors have been all over the place, with everything from new iPhones, to a new iPad, iPad mini, or even an iWatch suggested as possibilities, but how much of that stuff might be ready to launch so soon? One case maker sounds pretty convinced that a new iPad will be on the menu, and has some new cases ready to ship next week. Hard Candy Cases has two protective shells for the "iPad 5" up ...

It's about that time for Apple to show us the ropes with their next batch of products. WWDC, or World Wide Developers Conference, happens on June 10th and has always been about software enhancements to current software and services. That said, we've seen Apple launch a couple of iPhones and even Macs at this event, so there's no reason why we shouldn't get excited about this event. The biggest question we have is what'll we get and what'll we miss from this event. We do know that iOS 7 will take the spotlight, as Tim Cook confirmed at D11, but could WWDC be all about software this time ...

This time we get to hit all the big players, with details showing up that concern the flagship iPhone 5S, the rumored cheaper iPhone, as well as the next iPad. Some if this is minor stuff, like a tweaked shape for the rear microphone near the iPhone 5S's camera. The 5S could also get a bigger dual-LED flash and be available in three or more colors. With the major announcements behind us from Android- and Windows Phone-land, it's time for the rumor-mill to focus on Apple's upcoming devices, at least until the fall when we'll hear new rumors about Samsung, HTC, Nokia, and the others, as we get closer to IFA 2013. For now, the hear-say is mentioning the next Apple iPad. Your usual "sources with Taiwan's supply chain" have it on good authority that the next Apple iPad trial production will begin soon for the full-sized 9.7-inch slate. Volume production is claimed to start in July "with monthly shipments ramping up to 2-3 million units ...

As we recently talked in our previous episode of Pocketnow Live, the iPad rules the world because of one simple fact in its favor - Timing. When Apple decided to bring it to the market, Tablet PCs were expensive, bulky, slow and simply not better than your typical laptop. Those who debate that pen-input made them better most likely just assumes it, and has clearly never used one. Steve Jobs was right when he said that competitors were flummoxed by the iPad because they were simply not ready to compete. The question left on the table if the conditions remain the same for Apple's future iPad ...

With a new iPhone, a new iPad, and the debut of the iPad mini, Apple pretty much refreshed its whole mobile iOS product lineup last fall. While that normally might have us thinking that we'd have another full year to wait before getting word of new products, Apple had already exhibited signs of wanting to speed up device cycles, dropping two brand new iPads just a matter of months apart. This year, rumors have similarly looked to the idea of Apple announcing new iOS devices sooner rather than later, but so far nothing like that's come to pass. With summer just around the corner, we've ...
